Photo-responsive functional materials based on light-driven molecular motors

In the past two decades,the research and development of light-triggered molecular machines have mainly focused on developing molecular devices at the nanoscale.A key scientific issue in the field is how to amplify the controlled motion of molecules at the nanoscale along multiple length scales,such as the mesoscopic or the macroscopic scale,or in a more practical perspective,how to convert molecular motion into changes of properties of a macroscopic ***-driven molecular motors are able to perform repetitive unidirectional rotation upon irradiation,which offers unique opportunities for responsive macroscopic *** several reviews that focus on the design,synthesis and operation of the motors at the nanoscale,photo-responsive macroscopic materials based on light-driven molecular motors have not been comprehensively *** the present review,we first discuss the strategy of confining absolute molecular rotation into relative rotation by grafting motors on ***,examples of self-assemble motors in supramolecular polymers with high internal order are ***,we will focus on building of motors in a covalently linked system such as polymeric gels and polymeric liquid crystals to generate complex responsive ***,a perspective toward future developments and opportunities is *** review helps us getting a more and more clear picture and understanding on how complex movement can be programmed in light-responsive systems and how man-made adaptive materials can be invented,which can serve as an important guideline for further design of complex and advanced responsive materials.

N-doped graphene quantum dot-decorated N-tiO2/P-doped porous hollow g-C_(3)N_(4) nanotube composite photocatalysts for antibiotic photodegradation and H2 production

Exclusive responsiveness to ultraviolet light (~3.2 eV) and high photogenerated charge recombination rate are the two primary drawbacks of pure tiO_(2). We combined N-doped graphene quantum dots (N-GQDs), morphology regulation, and heterojunction construction strategies to synthesize N-GQD/N-doped tiO_(2)/P-doped porous hollow g-C_(3)N_(4) nanotube (PCN) composite photocatalysts (denoted as G-tPCN). the optimal sample (G-tPCN doped with 0.1wt% N-GQD, denoted as 0.1% G-tPCN) exhibits significantly enhanced photoabsorption, which is attributed to the change in bandgap caused by elemental doping (P and N), the improved light-harvesting resulting from the tube structure, and the upconversion effect of N-GQDs. In addition, the internal charge separation and transfer capability of0.1% G-tPCN are dramatically boosted, and its carrier concentration is 3.7, 2.3, and 1.9 times that of N-tiO_(2), PCN, and N-tiO_(2)/PCN(tPCN-1), respectively. this phenomenon is attributed to the formation of Z-scheme heterojunction between N-tiO_(2) and PCNs, the excellent electron conduction ability of N-GQDs, and the short transfer distance caused by the porous nanotube structure. Compared with those of N-tiO_(2), PCNs, and tPCN-1, the H2 production activity of 0.1%G-tPCN under visible light is enhanced by 12.4, 2.3, and 1.4times, respectively, and its ciprofloxacin (CIP) degradation rate is increased by 7.9, 5.7, and 2.9 times, respectively. the optimized performance benefits from excellent photoresponsiveness and improved carrier separation and migration efficiencies. Finally, the photocatalytic mechanism of 0.1% G-tPCN and five possible degradation pathways of CIP are proposed. this study clarifies the mechanism of multiple modification strategies to synergistically improve the photocatalytic performance of 0.1% G-tPCN and provides a potential strategy for rationally designing novel photocatalysts for environmental remediation and solar energy conversion.

We developed a fluorescent double network hydrogel with ionic responsiveness and high mechanical properties for visual *** nanocomposite hydrogel of laponite and polyacrylamide serves as the first network,while the ionic cross-linked hydrogel of terbium ions and sodium alginate serves as the second *** double-network structure,the introduction of nanoparticles and the reversible ionic crosslinked interactions confer high mechanical properties to the *** ions are not only used as the ionic cross-linked points,but also used as green emitters to endow hydrogels with fluorescent *** the basis of the “antenna effect” of terbium ions and the ion exchange interaction,the fluorescence of the hydrogels can make selective responses to various ions(such as organic acid radical ions,transition metal ions) in aqueous solutions,which enables a convenient strategy for visual detection toward ***,the fluorescent double network hydrogel fabricated in this study is promising for use in the field of visual sensor detection.

Major volcanic eruptions(MVEs)have attracted increasing attention from the scientific *** studies have explored the climatic impact of MVEs over the past two ***,proxy-based reconstructions and climate model simulations indicate divergent responses of global and China’s regional climates to ***,we used multiple data from observations,reconstructions,simulations,and assimilations to summarize the historical facts of MVEs,the characteristics and mechanisms of their climatic impact,and directions for future *** reviewed volcanic datasets and determined intensive MVE periods;these periods corresponded to the years 530–700,1200‒1460,and 1600‒1840 *** tropical MVEs,a substantial cooling effect is observed throughout the globe and China on the interannual-interdecadal time scales but an inconsistent cooling magnitude is detected between reconstructions and *** the first summer after tropical MVEs,a decrease in global and monsoonal precipitation is *** reconstructions and simulations,an increased precipitation is seen for the Yangtze River Basin,while large uncertainties in precipitation changes are present for other regions of *** drought can be induced by frequent eruptions and volcanism superimposed on low solar irradiation and internal *** affect climate directly through the radiative effect and indirectly by modulating internal variability,such as the El Niño‒Southern Oscillation(ENSO)and Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation(AMO).However,changes in the phase,amplitude,and periodicity of ENSO and AMO after MVEs and the associated mechanisms remain controversial,which could account for model-reconstruction ***,other internal variability,uncertainties in reconstruction methods and aerosol‒climate models,and climate background may also induce model-reconstruction *** gaps and directions for future research are also discussed.

A synthesis of the Cretaceous wildfire record related to atmospheric oxygen levels?

the Cretaceous was a significant greenhouse period in Earth's history with higher atmospheric CO_(2) levels and temperatures than today. Although evidence of combustion has been widely described from the Cretaceous deposits, our understanding of the spatiotemporal diversification pattern and process of the Cretaceous wildfires is still limited. In this study, we comprehensively synthesize a total of 271 published Cretaceous wildfire occurrences based on the by-products of burning, including fossil charcoal, pyrogenic inertinite(fossil charcoal in coal), and pyrogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs). Spatially, the dataset shows a distinctive distribution of reported wildfire evidence characterized by high concentration in the middle latitudinal areas of the Northern Hemisphere(30°N-60°N) over the Cretaceous. temporally, an overall increasing trend of the reported wildfire data from the Early Cretaceous to the late Cretaceous is coincident with higher atmospheric O_(2) levels. However, the spatial and temporal patterns may result from many types of factors, such as taphonomy, preservation, and researcher biases, instead of a real picture of the Cretaceous wildfire evolution. to better understand the spatiotemporal diversification of the Cretaceous wildfire, more investigations on the record of wildfire occurrences during this period would be necessary in the future.

Improving lipid production by Rhodotorula glutinis for renewable fuel production based on machine learning

Microbial lipid fermentation encompasses intricate complex cell growth processes and heavily relies on expert experience for optimal *** modeling of the fermentation process assists researchers in making intelligent decisions,employing logical reasoning and strategic planning to optimize lipid *** this study,the effects of medium components and concen-trations on lipid fermentation were investigated,*** then,leveraging the collated data,a variety of machine learning algorithms were used to model and optimize the lipid fermentation *** models,based on artificial neural networks and support vector machines,achieved R?values all higher than 0.93,ensuring accurate predictions of the fermentation *** linear regression was used to evaluate the respective target parameter,which were affected by the medium components of lipid ***,single and multi-objective optimiza-tion were conducted for lipid fermentation using the genetic *** results demonstrated the maximum biomass of 50.3 g·l^(-1) and maximum lipid concentration of 14.1 g:l^(-1) with the error between the experimental and predicted values less than 5%.the results of the multi-objective optimization reveal the synergistic and competitive relationship between biomass,lipid concentration,and conversion rate,which lay a basis for in-depth optimization and amplification.

Oxidation behavior of FeV_(2)O_(4)and FeCr_(2)O_(4)particles in the air:Nonisothermal kinetic and reaction mechanism

High-temperature oxidation behavior of ferrovanadium(FeV_(2)O_(4))and ferrochrome(FeCr_(2)O_(4))spinels is crucial for the application of spinel as an energy material,as well as for the clean usage of high-chromium vanadium ***,the nonisothermal oxidation behavior of FeV_(2)O_(4)and FeCr_(2)O_(4)prepared by high-temperature solid-state reaction was examined by thermogravimetry and X-ray diffraction(XRD)at heating rates of 5,10,and 15 K/*** apparent activation energy was determined by the Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose(KAS)method,whereas the mechanism function was elucidated by the Malek ***,in-situ XRD was conducted to deduce the phase transformation of the oxidation mechanism for FeV_(2)O_(4)and FeCr_(2)O_(4).the results reveal a gradual increase in the overall apparent activation energies for FeV_(2)O_(4)and FeCr_(2)O_(4)during *** stages of the oxidation process are observed based on the oxidation conversion rate of each *** oxidation mechanisms of FeV_(2)O_(4)and FeCr_(2)O_(4)are complex and have distinct *** particular,the chemical reaction controls the entire oxidation process for FeV_(2)O_(4),whereas that for FeCr_(2)O_(4)transitions from a three-dimensional diffusion model to a chemical reaction *** to the in-situ XRD results,numerous intermediate products are observed during the oxidation process of both compounds,eventually resulting in the final products FeVO_(4)and V2O_(5)for FeV_(2)O_(4)and Fe_(2)O_(3)and Cr_(2)O_(3)for FeCr_(2)O_(4),respectively.

Higher-order properties and extensions for indirect MRAC and APPC of linear systems

Recently, a reference derived some new higher-order output tracking properties for direct model reference adaptive control(MRAC) of linear time-invariant(ltI) systems: limt→∞ e~((i))(t) = 0, i = 1,..., n~*-1, where n~* and e~((i))(t) denote the relative degree of the system and the i-th derivative of the output tracking error, respectively. However, a naturally arising question involves whether indirect adaptive control(including indirect MRAC and indirect adaptive pole placement control) of ltI systems still has higher-order tracking properties. Such properties have not been reported in the literature. therefore, this paper provides an affirmative answer to this question. Such higher-order tracking properties are new discoveries since they hold without any additional design conditions and, in particular, without the persistent excitation condition. Given the higher-order properties, a new adaptive control system is developed with stronger tracking features.(1) It can track a reference signal with any order derivatives being unknown.(2) It has higher-order exponential or practical output tracking properties.(3) Finally, it is different from the usual MRAC system, whose reference signal’s derivatives up to the n~* order are assumed to be known. Finally, two simulation examples are provided to verify the theoretical results obtained in this paper.
