Mechanical behavior of sliding zone soil under compression considering periodic saturation-drying: example from a giant reservoir landslide

The reservoir landslide undergoes periodic saturation-drying cycles affected by reservoir fluctuation in hydropower project area， leading to the irreversible impact on the landslide materials. Sliding zone is the shearing part in formation of landslide and controls the further development of landslide. The mechanical behavior of sliding zone soil under compression is a crucial factor in the stability analysis in landslide. In this paper， the sliding zone soil from a giant landslide in the biggest hydropower project area， Three Gorges area， is taken as the research case. The particle-size distribution of the sliding zone soil from this landslide is studied and fractal dimension is adopted as representation. Periodic saturation-drying is introduced as the affecting factor on sliding zone soil properties. The triaxial compression test is conducted to reveal the mechanical behavior of the soil， including stress-strain behavior， elastic modulus， failure stress and strength parameters. These behavior of sliding zone soils with different fractal dimensions are studied under the effects of periodic saturation-drying cycles. The normalized stress-strain curves are displayed for further calculation. The data considering saturation-drying cycles are obtained and compared with the experimental results.

A new self-starting drainage anchor that combines prestressed anchor cables with self-starting drainage is proposed. The novelty of the self-starting drainage method is the realization of the drainage and anchoring in the one inclined borehole. Reduction in the number of boreholes can greatly decrease the construction cost and duration of the project. The adverse effect of drilling construction disturbance on the slope is reduced. To tackle the possible blockage of the drainage cavity due to sl.rry leakage during the solidification process after finishing grouting in the blocking section. To this end， a theoretical equation for the sl.rry diffusion radius under sl.rry self-weight pressure boundary conditions is deduced. The result is verified for precision through comparison with numerical simulation. The findings reveal that the permeability coefficient of rock and soil mass makes the most significant impact on the sl.rry diffusion radius， succeeded by the length of the grouting blocking section， sl.rry initial setting time， and drilling inclination in descending order of influence. with the 5% mass ratio of a "711" type sl.rry quick-setting agent， the maximum sl.rry diffusion radius can be reduced from 0.925m to 0.449m， a reduction of 0.476m， which is comparatively more recommended.

For the reduction of bovine serum proteins from wastewater,a novel mixed matrix membrane was prepared by functionalizing the substrate material polyaryletherketone(PAEK),followed by carboxyl groups(C-SPAEKS),and then adding amino-functionalized UiO-66-NH_(2)(Am-UiO-66-NH_(2)).Aminofunctionalization of UiO-66 was accomplished by melamine,followed by an amidation reaction to immobilize Am-UiO-66-NH_(2),which was immobilized on the surface of the membrane as well as in the pore channels,which enhanced the hydrophilicity of the membrane surface while increasing the negative potential of the membrane *** nanoparticle-loaded ultrafiltration membrane has good permeation performance,with a pure water flux of up to 482.3 l·m^(-2)·h^(-1) for C-SPAEKS/AmUiO-66-NH_(2) and a retention rate of up to 98.7%for bovine serum albumin(BSA)-contaminated ***,after several hydrophilic modifications,the flux recovery of BSA contaminants by this series of membranes increased from 56.2%to 80.55%of pure *** results of ultra-filtration flux time tests performed at room temperature showed that the series of ultrafiltration membranes remained relatively stable over a test time of 300 ***,the newly developed mixed matrix membrane showed potential for high efficiency and stability in wastewater treatment containing bovine serum proteins.

Drought can greatly impact the biodiversity of an ecosystem and play a crucial role in regulating its ***,the specific mechanisms by which drought mediate the biodiversity effect(BE)on community biomass in above-and belowground through functional traits remain poorly ***,we conducted a common garden experiment in a greenhouse,which included two plant species richness levels and two water addition levels,to analyze the effects of biodiversity on aboveground biomass(AGB),belowground biomass(BGB)and total biomass(TB),and to quantify the relationship between BEs and functional traits under drought *** analysis focused on partitioning BEs into above-and belowground complementarity effect(CE)and selection effect(SE)at the species level,which allowed us to better understand the impacts of biodiversity on community biomass and the underlying *** results showed that plant species richness stimulated AGB,BGB and TB through *** decreased AGB,BGB and TB,*** addition,the aboveground CE was positively associated with the variation in plant *** in above-and belowground were negatively correlated with the community mean plant height and root length,***,drought weakened the aboveground CE by decreasing variation in plant height,resulting in a reduction in AGB and *** findings demonstrate that the complementarity of species is an important regulator of community biomass in above-and belowground,the dynamics of biomass under environmental stress are associated with the response of sensitive compartments.

Artemisinin(ART)resistance has been an emerging clinical problem,severely compromising antimalarial efficacy and threatening the global malaria elimination *** intensive studies about the molecular mechanism for ART resistance are under way,no effective therapeutic targets for reversing resistance have been ***,we explore glutathione(GSH)as a therapeutic target to develop a thermo-responsive nanoplatform to specifically co-deliver ART and GSH synthesis inhibitor(l-buthionine sulfoximine,BSO)in a sustained manner,effectively reversing ART resistance in *** combining with BSO,ART exerts increased antimalarial activity with reduced half-maximal inhibitory concentration(IC50)by 7.43-fold in ART-resistant *** work reveals that the GSH in ART-resistant parasites can be a promising therapeutic target for reversing ART resistance,paving the way for developing drug candidates and intelligent nanomedicines in malaria therapy.

Intermittent fasting can benefit breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or ***,it is still uncertain how to select immunotherapy drugs to combine with intermittent *** we observed that two cycles of fasting treatment significantly inhibited breast tumor growth and lung tissue metastasis,as well as prolonged overall survival in mice bearing 4T1 and 4T07 breast *** this process,both the immunosuppressive monocytic-(M-)and granulocytic-(G-)myeloid-derived suppressor cell(MDSC)decreased,accompanied by an increase in interleukin(Il)7R^(+)and granzyme B^(+)T cells in the tumor ***,we observed that ly6G^(low)G-MDSC sharply decreased after fasting treatment,and the cell surface markers and protein mass spectrometry data showed potential therapeutic *** investigation revealed that glucose metabolism restriction suppressed the splenic granulocytemonocyte progenitor and the generation of colony-stimulating factors and Il-6,which both contributed to the accumulation of *** the other hand,glucose metabolism restriction can directly induce the apoptosis of ly6G^(low)G-MDSC,but not ly6G^(high)*** summary,these results suggest that glucose metabolism restriction induced by fasting treatment attenuates the immune-suppressive milieu and enhances the activation of CD3^(+)T cells,providing potential solutions for enhancing immune-based cancer interventions.

The performance improvement of swarm drones through aerodynamic shape optimization may be challenging due to folded size constraints imposed by the specific launch ***,fixed-wing aircraft swarms can benefit from formation flight in terms of energy *** study introduces the concept of the"aerodynamic formation unit",which consists of two or three aircraft that form an inseparable unit of the *** the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV)distribution and wingtip vortex interference in the formation,two typical aerodynamic formation units are optimized by the variable-fidelity aerodynamic optimization method based on space *** aerodynamic characteristics of the formation UAVs that affect flight performance,such as lift-to-drag ratio(l/D ratio)and static stability are analyzed by Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD)*** l/D ratio(cruising condition)of the following aircraft can be increased by 22.8%and 57.5%in the optimal units that involve two and three aircraft ***,this study conducts several CFD simulations for multi-aircraft formations formed by the units,which show that the average l/D ratio of the formation can be improved by more than 19%.These results verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the"aerodynamic formation unit"concept and the optimization framework for formation parameters.

Although the dynamic instability of microtubules(MTs)is fundamental to many cellular functions,quiescent MTs with unattached free distal ends are commonly present and play important roles in various events to power cellular ***,how these free MT tips are stabilized remains poorly ***,we report that centrosome and spindle pole protein 1(CSPP1)caps and stabilizes both plus and minus ends of static ***-time imaging of laser-ablated MTs in live cells showed deposition of CSPP1 at the newly generated MT ends,whose dynamic instability was concomitantly ***,MT ends in CSPP1-overexpressing cells were hyper-stabilized,while those in CSPP1-depleted cells were much more *** CSPP1-elicited stabilization of MTs was demonstrated to be achieved by suppressing intrinsic MT catastrophe and restricting ***,CSPP1-bound MTs were resistant to mitotic centromere-associated kinesin-mediated *** findings delineate a previously uncharacterized CSPP1 activity that integrates MT end capping to orchestrate quiescent MTs.
