BACKGROUND Currently,the detection of PIK3CA mutations is of special interest in personalized medicine because it is frequently found in triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC).The PI3KCA mutation is an independent negative prognostic factor for survival in metastatic breast cancer,and its prognostic value in liquid biopsy as a biomarker of treatment and early relapse is under investigation,both for metastatic disease and neoadjuvant scenario with curative *** SUMMARY A 54-year-old female patient with TNBC clinical stage IIIA,who,after receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy(based on anthracyclines and taxanes),surgery,radiotherapy,and adjuvant capecitabine,was detected with a PI3KCA mutation in tissue and peripheral blood(ctDNA in liquid biopsy).After 10 mo,the patient had disease relapse of left cervical node *** The detection of PIK3CA mutation in TNBC after neoadjuvant treatment might be associated with early relapse or rapid disease progression.

This article describes a study on a non-thermal plasma device to treat exhaust gases in an internal combustion engine. Several tests using a plasma device to treat exhaust gases are conducted on a Honda GX200- 196 cm3 engine at different rotational speeds. A plasma reactor could be efficient in degrading nitrogen oxides and particulate matter. Monoxide and carbon dioxide treatment is minimal. However, achieving 1%-3% degradation may be interesting to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases.

AIM To study tumor response, and tolerability of arterially directed embolic therapy(ADET) with polyethylene glycol embolics loaded with irinotecan for the treatment of colorectal cancer liver metastases(CRC-lM). Secondary objectives were to monitor quality of life, time to progression and survival of *** Patients were included in the study if they were affected by CRC-lM, refractory to systemic chemotherapy, treated with ADET using polyethylene glycol embolics, and had liver involvement lity of life(Qol) were monitored at 1, 3 and 6 mo after ADET. Qol was assessed with the Palliative Performance Scale(PPS).RESUlTS We treated 50 consecutive CRC-lM patients with ADET using polyethylene glycol embolics. Their tumor response one month after ADET was: 28% of complete response(CR), 48% of partial response(PR), 8% stable disease(SD), and 16% of progression. Tumor response 3 mo after ADET was CR 24%, PR 38%, SD 19% and progression disease(PD) 19%. Tumor response 6 mo after ADET was CR 18%, PR 44%, SD 21% and PD 18%. Qol was 90% PPS at each time point. Median time to progression for patients who progressed was 2.5 mo(range 0.8-6). Median follow-up was 14 mo(0.8-25 range). ADETs were performed with no complications. Observed side effects(mild or moderate intensity) were: Pain in 32% of patients, increase of transaminase levels in 20% and fever in 14%, whereas 30% of patients did not complain any adverse event. CONClUSION The treatment of unresectable CRC-lM with ADET using polyethylene glycol microspheres loaded with irinotecan was effective in tumor response and resulted in mild toxicity, and good Qol.

Dense natural wollastonite bioceramics (CaSiO3) were prepared by a sintering method, varying the pressing load and sintering temperature, in order to obtain different phases of wollastonite, and different physical properties in the materials. The products were characterized by TGA-DTA, XRD, FT-IR, SEM-EDS, TEM and XPS techniques. The results indicate the presence of two polymorphic phases of wollastonite, the β-wollastonite and α-wollastonite with a transition temperature of the β phase to α phase at approximately 1250℃. These materials were soaked in a simulated body fluid (SBF) during 1, 2 and 3 weeks, to study their solubility and bioactivity. The effect of different wollastonite phases on the solubility of Ca and Si, as well as the capacity of producing layers of “newly formed apatite” on the surfaces of these materials in SBF solution were analyzed.

AIM To determine influence of neoadjuvant-chemotherapy(NAC) over tumor-infiltrating-lymphocytes(TIl) intriple-negative-breast-cancer(TNBC).METHODS TIls were evaluated in 98 TNBC cases who came to Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplasicas from 2005 to 2010. Immunohistochemistry staining for CD3, CD4, CD8 and FOXP3 was performed in tissue microarrays(TMA) sections. Evaluation of H/E in full-face and immunohistochemistry in TMA sections was performed in pre and post-NAC samples. STATA software was used and P value lly significant. RESUlTS Higher TIl evaluated in full-face sections from pre-NAC tumors was associated to pathologic-complete-response(pCR)(P = 0.0251) and outcome(P = 0.0334). TIl evaluated in TMA sections showed low level of agreement with full-face sections(ICC = 0.017-0.20) and was not associated to pCR or outcome. TIl in post-NAC samples were not associated to response or outcome. PostNAC lesions with pC R had similar TIl levels than those without pCR(P = 0.6331). NAC produced a TIl decrease in full-face sections(P l subpopulations was correlated with their absolute counts. Higher counts of CD3, CD4, CD8 and FOXP3 in pre-NAC samples had longer disease-free-survival(DFS). Higher counts of CD3 in pre-NAC samples had longer overallsurvival. Higher ratio of CD8/CD4 counts in pre-NAC was associated with pCR. Higher ratio of CD4/FOXP3 counts in pre-NAC was associated with longer DFS. Higher counts of CD4 in post-NAC samples were associated with *** TIl in pre-NAC full-face sections in TNBC are correlated to longer survival. TIl in full-face differ from TMA sections, absolute count and percentage analysis of TIl subpopulation closely related.
