High-pressure investigations on Piplia Kalan eucrite meteorite using in-situ X-ray diffraction and ^(57)Fe mssbauer spectroscopic technique up to 16 GPa

We report here high-pressure investigations on Piplia Kalan eucrite-a member of HED （Howardite -Eucrite-Diogenite） family from asteroid 4-Vesta based on synchrotron X-ray diffraction （up to 16 GPa） and ^57Fe mossbauer spectroscopy （up to 8 GPa）. Dominant with anorthite-rich plagioclase, pigeonite-rich pyroxene and clino-ferrosilite, the sample displayed various phase transitions attaining amorphous character at 16 GPa. These phase transitions of individual components could be explained simultaneously through variations in high-pressure XRD patterns and the mossbauer parameters. most prominent P21/c to C2/c transition of pigeonite and ferrosilite was exhibited both as sudden variation in mossbauer parameters and population inversion of Fe^2＋ in m1 and m2 sites between 2.9 and 3.8 GPa and variation in intensity profile in XRD patterns at 3.56 GPa. Anorthite seemed to respond more to such impact than other components in the sample. Complete amorphization in anorthite which occurred at lower pressure of - 12 GPa implied residual stress experienced due to shock impact. The presence of high pressure （monoclinic） phase of pigeonite and ferrosilite at ambient condition in this eucrite sample confirmed earlier suggestions of an early shock event. This report is an attempt to emphasize the role of anorthite in the determination of the residual stress due to impact process in the parent body thus to understand the behavioral differences amongst HED members.

Application of seminal germ cell morphology and semen biochemistry in the diagnosis and management of azoospermic subjects

Aim: To evaluate whether the study of seminal germ cell morphology (SGCm) and semen biochemistry could befruitfully utilized for the diagnosis and management of azoospermic subjects. methods: In the semen, mature andimmature germ cells are contributed by the testes, 70% of glycerylphosphoryl choline (GPC) by the epididymis, fruc-tose mostly or solely by the seminal vesicles and acid phosphate (ACP) by the prostate. In 16 normal volunteers, 12vasectomized subjects and 186 azoospennic subjects, these parameters have been studied and the data have been ana-lyzed. Results: Both mature and immature germ cells are absent in the semen of vasectomized subjects as well as inobstructive azoospennia; GPC level is also significantly decreased in both these groups. In cases with non-obstructiveazoospermia immature germ cells are present and seminal GPC, ACP and fructose levels are normal. The diagnosis ofobstructive and non-obstructive azoospermia based on these parameters correlated well with 'correct' testicular biopsyfindings. In some cases of azoospermia due to hypospermatogenesis or spermatogenic developmental arrest, the SGCmstudies were very helpful in objectively monitoring the response of the germinal tissue to specific treaunents. Conclu-sion: SGCm and semen biochemical parameters are very valuable non-invasive markers for differentiating obstructivefrom non-obstructive azoospermia. The SGCm findings serve as a dependable non-invasive testicular marker with highpredictive value. (Asian J Androl 2001 mar; 3: 55-62)

Black gram is dominant pulse crop of the *** coefficient is an important parameter,which needs to be determined for accurate estimates of the crop water *** coefficient,the ratio of potential crop evapotranspiration to reference evapotranspiration,is an important parameter in irrigation planning and ***,this information is not available for many important crops in the study region.A study was undertaken to develop crop coefficients for black gram crop,and a comparison is made of single and dual crop coefficient approaches to estimate actual crop evapotranspiration under the climatic conditions of Udaipur,*** coefficient was developed from daily measured black gram evapotranspiration(ETBG)data by electronic weighing lysimeter and reference evapotranspiration calculated using standard Penman-monteith *** measured values of crop coefficient for the crop were 0.48,1.18 and 0.33 during initial,mid-season and late-season *** evaluation of different approaches showed that daily ETBG estimate based on dual crop coefficient method have been found best(SE=0.40,r=0.96).Furthermore,a quadratic curve(second-order polynomial)method were fitted well(SE=0.47,r=0.94)to predict crop coefficient values as function of days after sowing(DAS).These locally developed and evaluated values can be used for proper irrigation planning in water scarcity area of Udaipur and other areas with similar agro-ecological conditions.

The new lanthanum (Ⅲ) and praseodymium (Ⅲ) complexes of the general formula [ln(l)3] (ln=la(Ⅲ) or Pr(Ⅲ); lK=potassium salt of dithiocarbazinates) were prepared by both, conventional thermal and by the use of microwave technology. Elemental analyses, electrical conductance, magnetic moment and electronic, infrared, far-infrared, 1H and 13C NmR spectral studies were used to characterize the complexes. The molecular weights of few complexes were determined by FAB-mass spectra. Nephelauxetic ratio, covalency parameter and bonding parameter for these complexes were also calculated. The probable structures of the complexes were proposed. The antifungal and antibacterial activities of the complexes were evaluated. The activities were correlated with the structures of the compounds.

Plant derived phospholipids are rich in linoleic acid (lA) and have therapeutic value to treat inflammatory diseases of the liver,intestine and vasculature. These phospholipids act to normalize plasma lipid levels and prevent atherosclerotic disease. Oral administration of lA-phospholipids to cholesterol-fed rabbits prevents the development of atherosclerosis.

A Novel Approach for Enhancement of Geometric and Contrast Resolution Properties of low Contrast Images

The present work encompasses a new image enhancement algorithm using newly constructed Chebyshev fractional order differentiator. We have used Chebyshev polynomials to design Chebyshev fractional order differentiator. We have generated the high pass filter corresponding to it. The designed filters are applied for decomposing the input image into four bands and low-low(l-l) sub-band is updated using correction coefficients. Reconstructed image with updated l-l sub-band provides the enhanced image. The visual results obtained are encouraging for image enhancement. The applicability of the developed algorithm is illustrated on three different test *** effects of order of differentiation on the edges of images have also been presented and discussed.

Whole genome phylogeny of Gallus: introgression and data-type effects

Background: Previous phylogenetic studies that include the four recognized species of Gallus have resulted in a number of distinct topologies, with little agreement. Several factors could lead to the failure to converge on a consistent topology, including introgression, incomplete lineage sorting, different data types, or insufficient ***: We generated three novel whole genome assemblies for Gallus species, which we combined with data from the published genomes of Gallus gallus and Bambusicola thoracicus(a member of the sister genus to Gallus). To determine why previous studies have failed to converge on a single topology, we extracted large numbers of orthologous exons, introns, ultra-conserved elements, and conserved non-exonic elements from the genome assemblies. This provided more than 32 million base pairs of data that we used for concatenated maximum likelihood and multispecies coalescent analyses of ***: All of our analyses, regardless of data type, yielded a single, well-supported topology. We found some evidence for ancient introgression involving specific Gallus lineages as well as modest data type effects that had an impact on support and branch length estimates in specific analyses. However, the estimated gene tree spectra for all data types had a relatively good fit to their expectation given the multispecies ***: Overall, our data suggest that conflicts among previous studies probably reflect the use of smaller datasets(both in terms of number of sites and of loci) in those analyses. Our results demonstrate the importance of sampling large numbers of loci, each of which has a sufficient number of sites to provide robust estimates of gene trees. low-coverage whole genome sequencing, as we did here, represents a cost-effective means to generate the very large data sets that include multiple data types that enabled us to obtain a robust estimate of Gallus phylogeny.

Dynamic buckling mechanism of pillar rockbursts induced by stress waves

Rockbursts are sudden and violent rock failures that can lead to huge production and equipment losses,injury or death of mining *** has been regarded as one of the key mechanisms of rockbursts,which are often induced by dynamic loads from mining excavations,such as drilling and blasting in underground *** paper attempts to investigate the dynamic buckling mechanism of pillar rockbursts in underground mining,by considering rockbursts as a dynamic stability problem of underground rock *** results include:(1)A new explanation of the“sudden and violent”phenomenon of rockbursts,characterized by exponential growth of the amplitudes of transverse displacement responses,even in the presence of rock damping;(2)Identification of the critical role in inducing rockbursts of dynamic loads that bear frequencies approximately double the natural pillar frequency;(3)The greater influence on rockburst occurrence of the amplitude of dynamic component relative to the static component of loads;and(4)Quantification of the relative effects of stress waveform of dynamic loads on pillar rockbursts,which are in decreasing order if other parameters remain constant:rectangular,sinusoidal,and exponential *** examples are provided and limitations of the approach are *** research is motivated by the on-going and ubiquitous occurrence of rockbursts in underground excavations all around the *** contrast to conventional methods that use rock specimens or rock materials to study rockbursts,this investigation emphasizes the structural effects on rockbursts,which has potential applications in hard rock mining engineering.
