Glide symmetry protected higher-order topological insulators from semimetals with butterfly-like nodal lines

Most topological insulators(TIs)discovered today in spinful systems can be transformed from topological semimetals(TSMs)with vanishing bulk gap via introducing the spin-orbit coupling(SOC),which manifests the intrinsic links between the gapped topological insulator phases and the gapless ***,we have discovered a family of TSMs in time-reversal invariant spinless systems,which host butterfly-like nodal-lines(Nls)consisting of a pair of identical concentric intersecting coplanar ellipses(CICE).In this Communication,we unveil the intrinsic link between this exotic class of nodal-line semimetals(NlSMs)and a Z_(4)=2 topological crystalline insulator(TCI),by including substantial *** demonstrate that in three space groups(i.e.,Pbam(No.55),P4/mbm(No.127),and P4_(2)/mbc(No.135)),the TCI supports a fourfold Dirac fermion on the(001)surface protected by two glide symmetries,which originates from the intertwined drumhead surface states of the CICE *** higher order topology is further demonstrated by the emergence of one-dimensional helical hinge states,indicating the discovery of a higher order topological insulator protected by a glide symmetry.

Effect of static annealing on superplastic behavior of a friction stir welded Ti-6Al-4V alloy joint and microstructural evolution during deformation

Structural integration is one of the most critical developing directions in the modern aerospace field,in which large-scale complex components of Ti alloys are proposed to be fabricated via the method of welding + superplastic ***,the undesired strain localization appeared during superplastic deformation of the entire joint has largely hindered the development of this *** our study,a combination process of friction stir welding(FSW) + static annealing+ superplastic deformation was first time proposed to eliminate severe local *** achieve this result,a fully fine lamellar structure was obtained in the nugget zone(NZ) via FSW,which was totally different from the mill-annealed structure in the base material(BM).After annealing at 900℃ for 180 min,the BM and NZ then exhibited the similar elongation of> 500% and similar flow stress at 900 ℃,3 × 10^(-3)s^(-1),which was the precondition for achieving uniform superplastic deformation in the entire ***,the different microstructures in the BM and NZ tended to become the similar equiaxed structure after deformation,which was the result of different microstructural evolution mechanisms in the NZ and *** the NZ,there was a static and dynamic spheroidization of the fully lamellar structure during the process,which could largely reduce the flow softening of the fully lamellar *** the BM,a new view of "langdon-CrSS theory"(CrSS,critical resolved shear stress) was proposed to describe the fragmentation of the coarse equiaxed structure,which established the relationship between grain boundary sliding and intragranular deformation during deformation.

Size and Interface Effects on Tensile Strength of Polymers with Nano/Micro Particle Inclusions

Polymers with particle inclusions have wide applications,and the mechanical properties of polymer composites affect their reliability in *** strength of these composites is dependent on factors such as particle fraction,size,distribution,and interface interaction between the two phases,in addition to the properties of the polymers and *** size effect of particles and interface damage play an important role and thus draw considerable *** this paper,the size-and interface-dependent strength of polypropylene(PP)with nano/micro silica(SiO_(2))particles of different fractions is studied through a combination of tensile experiments on a series of samples and corresponding three-dimensional(3D)finite element *** results indicate that PP with 2%SiO_(2)nanoparticles of 50 nm exhibits relatively higher tensile strength,shedding light on the microstructure mechanism where smaller particle sizes lead to better interface ***,the particle size and interface coupling effect is analyzed based on the size-dependent elastic modulus model and the interface-cohesive *** simulation demonstrates the local interface damage evolution around a particle of the composites in *** findings are beneficial for designing polymer composites with nanoparticle inclusions.

Static spheroidization and its effect on superplasticity of fine lamellae in nugget of a friction stir welded Ti-6Al-4V joint

The spheroidization of the lamellar structure can greatly contribute to the superplasticity of the nugget zone(NZ)of Ti alloy welds,which is the key to achieve the integral superplastic forming of welds for the fabrication of large-scale complex ***,the spheroidization process is complex and costly since it cannot be obtained generally,unless the lamellae suffers from a large *** this study,the static spheroidization was achieved for the fine lamellae structure in the nugget of a friction stir welded(FSW)Ti-6Al-4V joint,particularly by the annealing without any *** specialα/βinterface obeying a Burgers orientation relationship(BOr)after FSW was first time directly observed,whose effect on the spheroidization was discussed.A new static spheroidization mechanism with the gradual coalescence of the adjacent lamellae was discovered,which we named as“termination coalescence”.There was a slower coarsening rate in the lamellar structure than in the classical equiaxed one,due to the BOr in the lamellae,although both of them exhibited a volume diffusion character during ***,the similar superplasticity can be achieved for the base material and NZ after *** study can provide a new way to the spheroidization and a theoretical basis for the integral superplastic forming of welds during production.

Microstructural evolution and strain hardening behavior of a friction stir welded（FSWed） high-strength7075Al-T651 alloy were *** nugget zone was observed to consist of fine and equiaxed recrystal.ized grains with a low dislocation density and free of original precipitates,but containing uniformly distributed *** strength,joint efficiency,and ductility of the FSWed joints increased with increasing welding speed.A joint efficiency of ＊91% was achieved at a welding speed of 400 mm/min and rotational rate of 800 r/min,while the ductility remained basically the same as that of the base *** was no obvious strain rate sensitivity observed in both base metal and welded *** both the base metal and FSWed joints exhibited stage III and IV hardening characteristics,the hardening capacity,strain hardening exponent,and strain hardening rate all increased after friction stir welding.

Friction Stir Welding of Discontinuously reinforced Aluminum matrix Composites:A review

Friction stir welding （FSW） is considered a promising welding technique for joining the aluminum matrix composites （AMCs） to avoid the drawbacks of the fusion welding. High joint efficiencies of 60%-100% could be obtained in the FSW joints of AMCs. However, due to the existence of hard reinforcing particles in the AMCs, the wearing of welding tool during FSW is an unavoidable problem. Moreover, the low ductility of the AMCs limits the welding process window. As the hard materials such as Ferro-Titanit alloy, cermet, and WC/Co were applied to produce the welding tools, the wearing of the tools was significantly reduced and the sound joints could be achieved at high welding speed for the AMCs with low reinforcement volume fraction. In this article, current state of understanding and development of welding tool wearing and FSW parameters of AMCs are viewed. Furthermore, the factors affecting the microstructure and mechanical properties of the joints are evaluated in detail.
