Childhood malaria in the Niger delta area of Nigeria:mothers/care givers'perception,definition and treatment practices

Objective:The objective of the study was to evaluate mothers/care givers perception of malaria,their treatment practices and the effects on the outcome of ***:Four hundred and sixty children were enrolled and their mothers/care givers *** children were screened for malaria parasitaemia and there after,blood specimens were obtained for biochemical and haematological evaluation from those children who met the criteria and tested positive to *** *** cell volume,electrolytes,urea, creatinine,plasma glucose,and serum bilirubin were ***:A total of 460 children were studied, 233(50.7%) males and 227(49.3%) *** malaria cases were 112(24.3%) and severe malaria 348(75.7%).Those who presented early 106(23.0%) and those who presented late 354(77.0%).Perception and definition of malaria as well as the treatment seeking behaviors vary significantly with the level of education of the mothers and care *** without formal education 68(51.9%) wrongly perceived that the etiology of malaria can only be diagnosed by native doctors compared to those with primary six education 61 (26.5%) and junior secondary education 10(10.1%).Only 43(9.3%) gave the correct dose of chloroquine syrup to their sick children,while 32(7.0%) gave at sub optimal ***:Wrong perception of malaria especially the complicated malaria and wrong treatment practices are major contributory factors to the high mortality and morbidity of malaria in *** is therefore a need for health education to correct the wrong ideas about the cause and treatment practices of malaria as part of malaria control programme.

Nowadays,force sensors play an important role in industrial production,electronic information,medical health,and many other ***-dimensional material-based filed effect transistor(2D-FET)sensors are competitive with nano-level size,lower power consumption,and accurate ***,few of them has the capability of impulse detection which is a path function,expressing the cumulative effect of the force on the particle over a period of *** we fabricated the flexible polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)gate dielectric MoS_(2)-FET for force and impulse sensor *** systematically investigated the responses of the sensor to constant force and varying forces,and achieved the conversion factors of the drain current signals(I_(ds))to the detected impulse(I).The applied force was detected and recorded by I_(ds)with a low power consumption of~30 *** sensitivity of the device can reach~8000%and the 4×1 sensor array is able to detect and locate the normal force applied on ***,there was almost no performance loss for the device as left in the air for two months.

In the field of nonlinear filtering(NlF),it is well-known that the unnormalized conditional density of the states satisfies the Zakai’s *** splitting-up algorithm has been first studied in the independent noises case by Bensoussan,et al.(1990).In this paper,the authors extend this convergence analysis of the splitting-up algorithm to the correlated noises’*** a time discretization,one splits the solution of the Zakai’s equation into two interlacing processes(with possibly computational advantage).These two processes correspond respectively to the prediction and *** certain conditions,the authors show that both processes tend to the solution of the Zakai’s equation,as the time step goes to *** authors specify the conditions imposed on the way of splitting-up to guarantee the *** major technical difficulty in the correlated noises’case,compared with the independent case,is to control the gradient of the second process in some *** il.ustrate the potentially computational advantage of the schemes based on the splitting-up ways,the authors experiment on a toy NlF model.using the feedback particle filter(FPF)developed based on the splitting-up method and the sampling importance and resampling(SIR)as *** FPF outperforms in both accuracy and efficiency.

The geological processes responsible for outward growth of the Tibetan Plateau are *** Qilian Mountains on the northeastern margin of the plateau comprise one of the youngest structural components of the plateau whose understanding is key to deciphering the broader geological evolution of the ***,based on a reprocessed deep seismic profile which was originally collected during the 1990 s across the northeast margin of the western Qilian Mountains and previous geological and geophysical data,we find evidence for decoupled crustal deformation that was partitioned by a decollement,in which lowercrustal deformation featured by local duplexing preceded upper-crustal deformation featured by imbricate ***,we propose that the Asian lithospheric mantle is being underthrust beneath the western Qilian Mountains,as inferred from patterns of lower crustal deformation which is marked by the Moho *** these results yields a better understanding of lithospheric deformation of western Qilian Mountains,northeastern margin of the plateau during the Cenozoic.

In the photodetachment of atoms or negative ions by a double-pulse laser, the first pulse of the double-pulse laser generates waves and the delayed second pulse may detect them. The phenomenon of the excitation and detection of waves by a double-pulse laser can be used to identify the closed orbits in the system. We demonstrate this phenomenon with a negative hydrogen ion(H^-) by analyzing the total population excited by a double-pulse laser in a timedependent field for different physical parameters. By analyzing the total excited population using a double-pulse laser, we can uncover all the closed orbits existing in the system. We demonstrate that this can be realized by scanning the first pulse position and the time delay between the two pulses.

This study describes the treatment of composting leachate by the combination of coagulation and nanofiltration process. Poly ferric sulfate （PSF） was used as coagulant, and the effect of pH value and PSF dosage on the coagulation performance was investigated. The results indicated that the chemical oxidation demand （COD） and turbidity removal efficiency could reach to 62.8% and 75.3%, respectively at an optimum dosage of 1200 mg·l-1 at pH 6,0. During the nanofiltration process, the operation conditions such as temperature and pressure were optimized, 89.7% of COD, 78.2% of TOC, 72,5% of TN, 83,2% of TP, and 78,6% of NH3-N were retained when tested at 0.6 MPa at 25 ℃. The final leachate effluent concentration of COD, BODs, NH3-N, TOC, SS was 92 mg.l 1, 31 mg,l 1 21 mg.l 1, 73 mg·l-1 and 23 mg·l -1, respectively, which reached the local discharge standard. The combination of coagulation-filtration is useful for composting leachate treatment.

Nano-indentation of a porous ceramic coating leads to crushing and densification of the coating under the indenter. In this work, finite element simulations of indentation on the porous coating have been carried out to study the effect of the size and dis- tribution of densification on Youngts modulus measured by nano-indentation. Two totally different distribution patterns have been simulated in this work. In the case of gradient densification, the Youngts modulus increased by 8.6% when the densifi- cation has occurred in the maximum influenced area. While the Young^s modulus increased by 2% with a uniformed densification. Examinations of the cross-section of the coatings have suggested that the densification after the indentation is close to the second model. The measured Young＇s modulus could have differed by 2%. The effect of densification on the Young＇s modulus measured by using nano-indentation is strongly dependent on the densification patterns of the porous coating.

Electricity Consumption Scheduling with Consumers' Comfort and Preference in Smart Grid

A game theory based scheduling method for household electricity consumption in smart grid is proposed in this paper. A non-cooperative game model is employed during the scheduling. All household consumers compete with each other and control their loads to maximize their payoffs. For solving the scheduling problem, we formulate the utility optimization(uO) model, in which the electricity cost reduction and the improvement of consumers’ comfort and preference are considered simultaneously. The System optimization(SO) model only minimizes the electricity cost when scheduling the consumers’ electricity consumption. Then we compare and analyze the two models in numerical simulation. The existence and the uniqueness of Nash equilibrium for proposed game model are proved. Simulation results show that the uO model provides an effective scheduling approach to achieve higher comfort and preference and at the same time decrease the energy cost.
