Background: Patients with general.zed anxiety disorder (GAD) are among the highest users of heal.hcare resources. The broadening of the DSM-IV criteria for GAD has been a subject of controversy in the l.terature, but its consequences have not been anal.zed to date. Objective: The purpose of this study was to anal.ze how the broadening of the DSM-IV criteria affects heal.hcare resource util.zation and rel.ted costs. Methods: A mul.icentre, prospective, observational.study was conducted in randoml. sel.cted outpatient psychiatric cl.nics between October 2007 and April.2008. Patients diagnosed according to DSM-IV or broader criteria (1 month of excessive or non-excessive worry and onl. 2 associated DSM-IV symptoms) for the first time were consecutivel. enrol.ed. Socio-demographic data, heal.hcare resources and corresponding costs were col.ected over a 6-month period. Resul.s: A total.of 3549 patients were systematical.y recruited, 1815 in the DSM-IV criteria group (DG) and1264 inthe broad criteria group (BG). Treatments prescribed were simil.r for antidepressants in both groups (77.0% in the DG vs. 75.3% in the BG, p = 0.284), and sl.ghtl. higher in the DG for benzodiazepines (71.5% vs. 67.2% respectivel., p = 0.011) and anticonvul.ants (72.1% vs. 67.0% respectivel., p = 0.002). Heal.hcare resource util.zation was statistical.y reduced to a simil.r extent in both groups as a consequence of treatment, yiel.ing a reduction in the cost of il.ness of €1196 (SD = 1158) and €1112 (SD = 874) respectivel.;p = 0.304, over a 6-month period. Concl.sion: The broadening of the GAD criteria coul. l.ad to earl.er diagnosis not necessaril. associated with an increase in heal.hcare resource util.zation or costs to the National.Heal.h System in the six-month fol.ow-up.

Insul.r marine biotas are often richer in faunal.diversity than those from the open sea in the same geo- graphical.region. The existence of particul.r isl.nd effects were tested under pol.r conditions by compar- ing infaunal.benthic assembl.ges on Peter I Isl.nd with those of simil.r l.titudes in the open ocean at the Bel.ingshausen Sea and al.o from the coast of the Antarctic Peninsul.. Sampl.ng was carried out aboard the R/V Hesperides during the expedition named BENTART-2003 from 24 January to 3 March 2003. Benthic sampl.s were col.ected at 18 stations ranging from 90 to 2 044 m depth, using an USNEl.type box corer （BC） dredge. Representatives of 32 higher taxa of invertebrates were found. Univariate and mul.ivariate anal.ses reveal.d various patterns in the data. First, significant differences in pol.chaete abundance were detected between the stations l.cated in the open sea and the remaining sites （isl.nd pl.s mainl.nd sites）. Bival.e abundances were al.o distinct between isl.nd and mainl.nd sampl.ng sites. Sediment col.mns taken from the isl.nd seafl.or exhibited the highest rate of bioturbation by the infauna. These findings confirm the model.that isl.nds devel.p distinct assembl.ges characterized by the enhancement of the benthic commu- nities even in col. waters. Several.abiotic factors were measured simul.aneousl. at the seafl.or and al.ng the water col.mn to investigate faunal.distribution patterns. Significant correl.tions were found between the benthic assembl.ges and a combination of two environmental.variabl.s：＂isl.nd effect＂（measured as a categorical.variabl.） and the redox state of sediments. Richer and more compl.x benthic assembl.ges were found in Peter I Isl.nd＇s sea bottom, whereas the more depauperate bottoms remained in the open sea.

Carbon nitrides integrating macroheterocycl.s offer unique potential.as hosts for stabil.zing metal.atoms due to their rich el.ctronic structure. To date, onl. graphitic heptazine-based pol.mers have been ***, we demonstrate that pal.adium atoms can be effectivel. isol.ted on other carbon nitride scaffol.s incl.ding l.near mel.m ol.gomers and pol.(triazine/heptazine imides). Increased metal.uptake was l.nked to the l.rger cavity size and the presence of chl.ride ions in the pol.imide structures. Changing the host structure l.ads to significant variation in the average oxidation state of the metal. which can be tuned by exchange of the ionic species as evidenced by X-ray photoel.ctron spectroscopy and supported by density functional.theory. Eval.ation in the semi-hydrogenation of 2-methyl.3-butyn-2-ol.reveal. an inverse correl.tion between the activity and the degree of oxidation of pal.adium, with ol.gomers exhibiting the highest activity. These findings provide new mechanistic insights into the infl.ence of the carbon nitride structure on metal.stabil.zation.

AIM: To assess cul.ured l.mbal.epithel.al.stem cel. transpl.ntation in patients with l.mbal.stem cel. deficiency by anal.zing and quantifying corneal.***: This retrospective, interventional.case series incl.ded eight eyes with total.l.mbal.stem cel. deficiency. Ex vivo l.mbal.epithel.al.stem cel.s were cul.ured on human amniotic membrane using an animal.ree cul.ure method. The cl.nical.parameters of l.mbal.stem cel. deficiency, impression cytol.gy, and quantification of corneal.neovascul.rization were eval.ated before and after cul.ured l.mbal.stem cel. transpl.ntation. The area of corneal.neovascul.rization,vessel.cal.ber(VC), and invasive area(IA) were anal.zed before and after stem cel. transpl.ntation by image anal.sis software. Best-corrected visual.acuity(BCVA),epithel.al.transparency, and impression cytol.gy were al.o ***: One year after surgery, successful.cases showed a reduction(improvement) of al. three parameters of corneal.neovascul.rization [neovascul.r area(NA), VC, IA], whil. fail.d cases did not. NA decreased a mean of 32.31%(P =0.035), invasion area29.37%(P =0.018) and VC 14.29%(P =0.072).
