NRF1-mediated microglial activation triggers high-altitude cerebral edema

High-altitude cerebral edema(HACE)is a potentially fatal encephalopathy associated with a time-dependent exposure to the hypobaric hypoxia of *** formation of HACE is affected by both vasogenic and cytotoxic *** over-activated microglia potentiate the damage of blood-brain barrier(BBB)and exacerbate cytotoxic *** light with the activation of microglia in HACE,we aimed to investigate whether the over-activated microglia were the key turning point of acute mountain sickness to *** in vivo experiments,by exposing mice to hypobaric hypoxia(7000 m above sea level)to induce HACE model,we found that microglia were activated and migrated to blood *** depletion by PLX5622 obviously relieved brain *** in vitro experiments,we found that hypoxia induced cultured microglial activation,leading to the destruction of endothelial tight junction and astrocyte ***-regulated nuclear respiratory factor 1(NRF1)accelerated pro-inflammatory factors through transcriptional regulation on nuclearfactorkappa B p65(NF-kB p65)and mitochondrial transcription factorA(TFAM)in activated microglia under ***1 also up-regulated phagocytosis by transcriptional regulation on caveolin-1(CAV-1)and adaptorrelated protein complex 2 subunit beta(AP2B1).The present study reveals a new mechanism in HACE:hypoxia over-activates microglia through up-regulation of NRF1,which both induces inflammatory response through transcriptionally activating NF-kB p65 and TFAM,and enhances phagocytic function through up-regulation of CAV-1 and AP2B1;hypoxia-activatedmicroglia destroy the integrity of BBB and release pro-inflammatory factors that eventually induce HACE.

Reactive poly(divinyl benzene-co-maleic anhydride) nanoparticles:Preparation and characterization

Polymeric nanoparticles（NPs）have drawn great interest in the past few years due to their potential applications in the felds of biomedical and optical ***,it is still a challenge to prepare functional polymeric NPs,especially for particle diameters smaller than 50 *** this work,we demonstrate a one-pot method to fabricate reactive poly（divinyl benzene-co-maleic anhydride）NPs（PDVBMAH NPs）through a self-stable precipitation polymerization *** size and morphology of these PDVBMAH NPs were characterized in detail by scanning electronic microscopy,and their chemical structure was determined by *** results showed that these NPs were highly cross-linked and their diameter was about 30 nm with narrow ***,the DVB and MAH endow the NPs with reactive surface anhydride and pendant vinyl groups,and these particles could be further functionalized through reaction of these groups.A plausible pathway was proposed for the formation of PDVBMAH NPs.

A high-performance Mg-Er-Zn-Zr alloy with low Er/Zn mass ratio

The microstructure and properties of a quarternary Mg-8Er-5Zn-0.5Zr(mass fraction, %) alloy with the low Er/Zn mass ratio of 1.60 were investigated. It is found that despite of the low Er/Zn mass ratio, the microstructure of the as-prepared alloy is composed of α-Mg, W phase with face-centered cubic structure and long packed stacking ordered(LPSO) phase. As expected, the extruded and annealed alloy possesses high yield stress(310 MPa) and good elongation(14%) at room temperature. The superior mechanical properties can be interpreted in terms of the promising microstructure characteristic of fine α-Mg recrystallized grains embedded with high-density fine lamellar-shaped LPSO phase and block W phase structure.

Alterations in nutrient digestibility and performance of heat-stressed dairy cows by dietary L-theanine supplementation

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary L-theanine supplementation on apparent nutrient digestibility,milk yield,milk composition,and blood biochemical indices of dairy cows under heat *** Chinese Holstein cows(19.84±2.42 kg milk/d,192.36±40.77 d in milk and2±0.93 parities)were divided into 3 groups of 10 animals *** control group was fed a basal total mixed ration(TMR)diet,while treatment 1(LTA16)and treatment 2(LTA32)groups were fed a basal TMR diet supplemented with L-theanine at 16 and 32 g/cow per day,*** results showed that feeding the dairy cows with LTA16 treatment decreased(P0.05)on the dry matter intake,nutrient digestibility,total volatile fatty acid(TVFA)concentration and molar proportion of volatile fatty acid,milk yield,milk composition,feed efficiency and antioxidant capacity of the dairy *** triglyceride(TG)content of the LTA32 group was significantly greater(P=0.014)than that of the control *** the increase in L-theanine dosage,the serum cholesterol(CHOL)content significantly increased(P=0.013).The serum albumin(ALB;P=0.067),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C;P=0.053),and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C;P=0.067)contents showed an upward trend as L-theanine dosage ***,the results of this study show that supplementing dairy cow diet with L-theanine could decrease dairy cow rectal temperature,affect lipid metabolism,and potentially relieve the heat stress of dairy cows to some extent.

采用PCR扩增、基因测序技术对湖泊早春季节爆发蓝藻水华的优势藻种和土嗅味藻源进行鉴定研究,实验室条件下分别测定了不同光强和温度对优势藻生物量和土嗅素产量的影响,其中,光强和温度梯度分别为16、26、36μmol·m-2·s-1和16、26、36℃。结果表明,湖泊蓝藻水华的优势藻种为柔细束丝藻(Aphanizomenon gracile),富营养化湖泊中的强烈异味可能来源于柔细束丝藻的土嗅素。室内模拟实验显示柔细束丝藻叶绿素含量和土嗅素产量在低温和高光强时较高,实验范围内的低温强光环境有利于其生长;温度对柔细束丝藻生长量和土嗅素产量的影响较光强显著,适宜条件下土嗅素最高产量达6 555 ng·mg^(-1)。

Comparison of nominal and standardized catch per unit effort data in quantifying habitat suitability of skipjack tuna in the equatorial Pacific Ocean

In the western and central Pacific Ocean,upper strata waters exhibit highly dynamic oceanographic features under ENSO *** has been proved to be responsible for the dynamic change of both abundance and zonal distribution of skipjack tuna(Katsuwonus pelamis).Although causality has been suggested by researchers using physical-biological interaction models,cumulative evidence needs to be obtained and the tenability of assertion needs to be tested from an ecological habitat perspective,based on fisheries *** purse seine fishery,the use of catch per unit effort(CPUE)as an indication of the abundance is confusing because of technical improvements over the whole exploitation history and unbalanced individual fishing characteristic of *** is particularly interesting to discriminate between habitat characteristics in comparative scenarios of CPUE *** study identified habitat traits based on a series of oceanographic factors from a global ocean reanalysis model.A comparison was conducted between two habitat models based on unprocessed purse seine CPUE and standardized CPUE considering fishing *** results suggest that standardized CPUE could model the regular zonal shift of habitat compatible with the observed fishing efforts transfer,and achieved better prediction capacity than unprocessed ***,the habitat of skipjack tuna was also characterized and linked with surface and subsurface thermal environment,ocean current,dissolved oxygen,biotic environment,and ENSO *** monthly-averaged habitat suitable index,derived from the optimal habitat model prediction,showed a significant linear relationship with the southern oscillation index,which suggested that El Ni?o episodes eventually provide more preferable habitat for skipjack tuna under ENSO variability.

An air-supplement plasma synthetic jet(PSJ)actuator increases the air supplemental volume in the recovery stage and improves the jet energy by attaching a check valve to the chamber of a conventional *** explore the flow control effect and mechanism of the air-supplement actuator,via particle image velocimetry experiments in a low-speed wind tunnel,the flow field and boundary layer characteristics of a two-dimensional airfoil surface under different actuation states were compared for different attack angles and jet *** experimental results show that,compared with the conventional actuation state,the jet energy of the air-supplement PSJ is higher and the indirect mixing effect of the counter-vortex sequence produced by the jet-mainstream interaction is ***,the boundary layer mixing effect is better,which can further suppress flow separation and improve the critical flow separation attack ***,increasing the jet momentum coefficient can enhance the flow control *** findings of this study could provide guidance for the flow control application of air-supplement PSJs.

An online diabetic retinopathy screening tool for patients with type 2 diabetes

AIM:To develop a useful diabetic retinopathy(DR)screening tool for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).METHODS:A DR prediction model based on the Logistic regression algorithm was established on the development dataset containing 778 samples(randomly assigned to the training dataset and the internal validation dataset at a ratio of 7:3).The generalization capability of the model was assessed using an external validation dataset containing 128 *** DR risk calculator was developed through We Chat Developer Tools using Java Script,which was embedded in the We Chat mini ***:The model revealed risk factors(duration of diabetes,diabetic nephropathy,and creatinine level)and protective factors(annual DR screening and hyperlipidemia)for *** the internal and external validation,the recall ratios of the model were 0.92 and 0.89,respectively,and the area under the curve values were 0.82 and 0.70,***:The DR screening tool integrates education,risk prediction,and medical advice function,which could help clinicians in conducting DR risk assessments and providing recommendations for ophthalmic referral to increase the DR screening rate among patients with T2DM.
