Porphyrin-based Molecules for Photovoltaic Applications

By using the microcalorimetric method the present paper systematically studied the effect of four newly synthesized compounds on the multiplying and no-multiplying bacteria metabolism of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The results show that all of these compounds have strong activity on the multiplying metabolism of E. coli. (The IC50S are all below 10mg/l), and the sequence of the activity is 3LZn >2LZnYb

Porphyrin-based Molecules for Photovoltaic Applications

Insights on advanced substrates for controllable fabrication of photoanodes toward efficient and stable photoelectrochemical water splitting

With the development of accessible and renewable energy sources, solution-processed bulk heterojunction organic solar cells(BHJ OSCs) have been well developed and recognized as one of the most promising next-generation green technology alternatives to inorganic solar cells because of their solution processability, low cost, light weight, and flexibility. Specifically, small-molecule BHJ OSCs have attracted much attention recently, in which small molecules as donor materials show defined molecular structure and molecular weight, high purity, and less batch-to-batch variations in comparison with their polymer counterparts. In dye-sensitized solar cells, porphyrin-based push–pull photosensitizers have demonstrated their success for their large and rigid planar conjugated structures, which can enhance π-electron delocalization and promote intermolecular π–π interaction, as well as charge transport in devices. However, either polymers or small molecules that are porphyrin based show less contribution in BHJ OSCs, and the main impediments to performance are unfavorable aggregation, short exciton diffusion length and low charge mobility. In this talk, a series of new A-D-A porphyrin-based molecules were designed, synthesized and characterized. These molecules can be used as efficient electron donors in high-performance solution-processed BHJ OSCs.

Conversion of solar energy into H_(2) by photoelectrochemical(PEC)water splitting is recognized as an ideal way to address the growing energy crisis and environmental *** a typical PEC cell,the construction of photoanodes is crucial to guarantee the high efficiency and stability of PEC reactions,which fundamentally rely on rationally designed semiconductors(as the active materials)and substrates(as the current collectors).In this review work,we start with a brief introduction of the roles of substrates in the PEC ***,we provide a systematic overview of representative strategies for the controlled fabrication of photoanodes on rationally designed substrates,including conductive glass,metal,sapphire,silicon,silicon carbide,and flexible ***,some prospects concerning the challenges and research directions in this area are proposed.

Toxic air pollutants(TAPs)are a class of airborne chemicals known or suspected to cause serious health *** study,applying positive matrix factorization and inhalation unit risk estimates of TAPs,quantifies the changes in significant sources contributing to inhalation cancer risks(ICRs)from 2000 to 2020 in Hong Kong,*** ICR decreased from 1701 to 451 cases per million between 2000−2004 and 2016−2020,largely attributed to the reduction in diesel particulate matter(DPM),gasoline and solvent use-related volatile organic compounds(VOCs),and coal/biomass combustion-related polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and metal(loid)*** regional contribution of VOCs associated with industrial and halogenated solvent sources increased substantially,representing the largest non-DPM ICR contributor(37%)in 2016−2020,stressing the need for a more comprehensive risk evaluation across the fast-growing and densely populated Greater Bay Area(GBA).ICRs in Hong Kong and the GBA will likely remain over 100 cases per million by *** contributions to ozone formation potential of VOC/carbonyl sources were quantified,which show a notable shift from being solvent/gasoline-dominant in 2000−2004 to being more evenly shared by various sources in 2016−*** a similar TAP monitoring network in the GBA is anticipated to provide the monitoring data needed to facilitate the development of more informed air quality management strategies.

Although lanthanide double-decker complexes with hetero-macrocyclic ligands as functional luminescent and magnetic materials have promising properties, their inferior water solubility has negated their biomedical applications.[1] Herein, four water-soluble homoleptic lanthanide（Ln = Gd, Er, Yb and La） sandwiches with diethylene-glycol-disubstituted porphyrins（DD） are reported, with their structures proven by both quantum chemical calculations and scanning tunneling microscopy. Our findings demonstrate that the near-infrared emission intensity and singlet oxygen（1 O2） quantum yields of YbDD and GdDD in water are higher than those of the reported capped lanthanide monoporphyrinato analogues, YbN and GdN;the brightness and luminescence lifetime in water of YbDD are greater than those of YbN. This work provides a new dimension for the future design and development of molecular theranostics-based water-soluble double-decker lanthanide bisporphyrinates.[2]

Circularly polarized luminescence(CPL) is of importance to advance science and technology with significant potential applications in information storage, spintronics and optoelectronic devices. Integrating CPL and the emission mechanism of thermally activated delayed fluorescence(TADF) has attracted considerable attention, because of their 100% internal quantum efficiency in theory and easily modified molecular structures for tunable photo-electrical properties. However, the typical donor-acceptor(D-A) architecture of CP-TADF emitters generally induces a broad emission profile with inferior color purity due to their large structural relaxation under the processes of excitation and emission. Recently, CP-multi-resonance(MR)-TADF emitters that concurrently display CPL activity, narrowband emission and high efficiency are emerging as the most suitable candidates for the next-generation organic light-emitting diode(OLED) display. In this review, the progress of CP-MR-TADF materials is reviewed in terms of the molecular design strategy, the common relationship between the molecular structures and optoelectronic properties, and their OLEDs performance. Finally, the opportunities and challenges in this research topic are discussed.

Background:Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is associated with impaired renal function,and both diseases often occur alongside other metabolic ***,the prevalence and risk factors for impaired renal function in patients with NAFLD remain *** objective of this study was to identify the prevalence and risk factors for renal impairment in NAFLD ***:All adults aged 18-70 years with ultrasound-diagnosed NAFLD and transient elastography examination from eight Asian centers were enrolled in this prospective *** fibrosis and cirrhosis were assessed by FibroScan-aspartate aminotransferase(FAST),Agile 3+and Agile 4 *** renal function and chronic kidney disease(CKD)were defined by an estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR)with value of<90 mL/min/1.73 m^(2) and<60 mL/min/1.73 m^(2),respectively,as estimated by the CKD-Epidemiology Collaboration(CKD-EPI)***:Among 529 included NAFLD patients,the prevalence rates of impaired renal function and CKD were 37.4%and 4.9%,*** multivariate analysis,a moderate-high risk of advanced liver fibrosis and cirrhosis according to Agile 3+and Agile 4 scores were independent risk factors for CKD(P<0.05).Furthermore,increased fasting plasma glucose(FPG)and blood pressure were significantly associated with impaired renal function after controlling for the other components of metabolic syndrome(P<0.05).Compared with patients with normoglycemia,those with prediabetes[FPG≥5.6 mmol/L or hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)≥5.7%]were more likely to have impaired renal function(P<0.05).Conclusions:Agile 3+and Agile 4 are reliable for identifying NAFLD patients with high risk of *** glycemic control in the prediabetic stage might have a potential renoprotective role in these patients.
