Improvement of lenvatinib-induced nephrotic syndrome after adaptation to sorafenib in thyroid cancer:A case report

BACKGROUND Target therapy is licensed by United States Food and Drug Administration on certain *** sorafenib and lenvatinib are tyrosine kinase inhibitor and indicated on radioactive iodine(RAI)-refractory differentiated thyroid cancer(DTC).Lenvatinib is more effective in cancers'control than sorafenib,but causes more nephrotoxicity than sorafenib *** case is the second published case about the serial adaptions from lenvatinib to sorafenib for improving the proteinuria and,meanwhile,achieving the therapeutic *** SUMMARY A 56-year-old man suffered from bilateral edematous lower extremities after 1-mo prescription of lenvatinib of 20 mg/d for RAI-refractory *** from this symptom,he also developed *** laboratory showed grade-3 proteinuria(estimated 24-h urine protein:9993 mg),hypoalbuminemia and ***-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)therapyinduced nephrotic syndrome was *** reduced dosage of lenvatinib of 10 mg/d and related symptomatic drugs,limited improvement was observed in both adverse effects and caner *** this condition,we substituted sorafenib of 400 mg/d for lenvatinib of 10 mg/*** a 5-mo prescription,not only hypertension and peripheral edema were greatly improved,but also proteinuria was improved from grade three to grade one(estimated 24-h urine protein:962 mg).At the same time the cancer control was achieved,judged from computed tomography and laboratory evidence[thyroglobulin(Tg)before prescription of sorafenib:354.7 ng/m L;Tg after prescription of sorafenib:108.9 ng/m L].CONCLUSION Adaption from lenvatinib to sorafenib is a feasible method to improve the antiVEGF therapy-induced nephrotic syndrome and achieve the therapeutic goal at the same time.

Converting an O-vacancy-rich oxide into a multifunctional separator modifier for long-lifespan lithium metal batteries

The lithium metal anode is hailed as the desired "holy grail" for the forthcoming generation of highenergy-density batteries,given its astounding theoretical capacity and low ***,the formation and growth of dendrites seriously compromise battery life and ***,an yttriastabilized bismuth oxide(YSB) layer is fabricated on the polypropylene(PP) separator,where YSB reacts with Li anode in-situ in the cell to form a multi-component composite interlayer consisting of Li_(3)Bi,Li_(2)O,and Y_(2)O_(3).The interlayer can function not only as a redistributor to regulate Li^(+) distribution but also as an anion adsorber to increase the Li^(+) transference number from 0.37 to 0.79 for suppressing dendrite nucleation and ***,compared with the cell with a baseline separator,those with modified separators exhibit prolonged lifespan in both Li/Li symmetrical cells and Li/Cu ***,the full cells coupled with ultrahigh-loading LiFePO_(4) display an excellent cycling performance of 1700 cycles with a high capacity retention of ~80% at 1 C,exhibiting great potential for practical *** work provides a feasible and effective new strategy for separator modification towards building a much-anticipated dendrite-free Li anode and realizing long-lifespan lithium metal batteries.

Siliceous diatoms are one of the most prominent actors in the oceans,and they account for approximately 40%of the primary production and particulate organic carbon export *** is believed that changes in carbon flux caused by variations in diatom distribution can lead to significant climate *** the fundamental pathways of diatom-driven carbon sequestration have long been established,there are no reports of CaCO_(3) precipitation induced by marine diatom *** manuscript introduces novel details regarding the enhancement of aragonite precipitation during photosynthesis in Skeletonema costatum in both artificial and natural *** direct measurements of cell surfaces via a pH microelectrode and zeta potential analyzer,it was determined that the diatom-mediated promotion of CaCO_(3) precipitation is achieved through the creation of specific microenvironments with concentrated[CO_(3)^(2-)]and[Ca^(2+)]and/or the dehydrating effect of adsorbed Ca^(2+).Based on this mechanism,it is highly plausible that diatom-mediated calcification could occur in the oceans,an assertion that was supported by the significant deviation of total alkalinity(TA)from the conservative TA-salinity mixing line during a Skeletonema costatum bloom in the East China Sea and other similar *** newly discovered calcification pathway establishes a link between particulate inorganic and organic carbon flux and thus helps in the reassessment of marine carbon export fluxes and CO_(2) sequestration *** discovery may have important ramifications for assessing marine carbon cycling and predicting the potential effects of future ocean acidification.

Diffusion and reaction mechanism of limestone and quartz in fluxed iron ore pellet roasting process

The increase to the proportion of fluxed pellets in the blast furnace burden is a useful way to reduce the carbon emissions in the ironmaking *** this study,the interaction between calcium carbonate and iron ore powder and the mineralization mechanism of fluxed iron ore pellet in the roasting process were investigated through diffusion couple *** electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy was used to study the elements’diffusion and phase transformation during the roasting *** results indicated that limestone decomposed into calcium oxide,and magnetite was oxidized to hematite at the early stage of *** the increase in roasting temperature,the diffusion rate of Fe and Ca was obviously accelerated,while the diffusion rate of Si was relatively *** order of magnitude of interdiffusion coefficient of Fe_(2)O_(3)-CaO diffusion couple was 10^(−10) m^(2)·s^(−1) at a roasting temperature of 1200℃for 9 ***_(2)Fe_(2)O_(5) was the initial product in the Fe_(2)O_(3)-CaO-SiO_(2) diffusion interface,and then Ca_(2)Fe_(2)O_(5) continued to react with Fe_(2)O_(3) to form CaFe_(2)O_(4).With the expansion of the diffusion region,the sillico-ferrite of calcium liquid phase was produced due to the melting of SiO_(2) into CaFe_(2)O_(4),which can strengthen the consolidation of fluxed ***,andradite would be formed around a small part of quartz particles,which is also conducive to the consolidation of fluxed *** addition,the principle diagram of limestone and quartz diffusion reaction in the process of fluxed pellet roasting was discussed.

Highly Accurate Golden Section Search Algorithms and Fictitious Time Integration Method for Solving Nonlinear Eigenvalue Problems

This study sets up two new merit functions,which are minimized for the detection of real eigenvalue and complex eigenvalue to address nonlinear eigenvalue *** each eigen-parameter the vector variable is solved from a nonhomogeneous linear system obtained by reducing the number of eigen-equation one less,where one of the nonzero components of the eigenvector is normalized to the unit and moves the column containing that component to the right-hand side as a nonzero input vector.1D and 2D golden section search algorithms are employed to minimize the merit functions to locate real and complex ***,the real and complex eigenvectors can be computed very accurately.A simpler approach to the nonlinear eigenvalue problems is proposed,which implements a normalization condition for the uniqueness of the eigenvector into the eigenequation *** real eigenvalues can be computed by the fictitious time integration method(FTIM),which saves computational costs compared to the one-dimensional golden section search algorithm(1D GSSA).The simpler method is also combined with the Newton iterationmethod,which is convergent very *** the proposed methods are easily programmed to compute the eigenvalue and eigenvector with high accuracy and efficiency.

Silvery fullerene in Ag102 nanosaucer

Despite the discovery of a series of fullerenes and a handful of noncarbon clusters with the typical topology of Ih-C60, the smallest fullerene with a large degree of curvature, C20, and its other-element counterparts are difficult to isolate experimentally. In coinage metal nanoclusters（NCs）, the first all-gold fullerene, Au32, was discovered after a long-lasting pursuit, but the isolation of similar silvery fullerene structures is still challenging. Herein, we report a flying saucer-shaped 102-nuclei silver NC（Ag102） with a silvery fullerene kernel of Ag32, which is embraced by a robust cyclic anionic passivation layer of（KPO4）10. This Ag32kernel can be viewed as a non-centered icosahedron Ag12encaged into a dodecahedron Ag20, forming the silvery fullerene of Ag12@Ag20. The anionic layer（KPO4）10is located at the interlayer between the Ag32kernel and Ag70shell, passivating the Ag32silvery fullerene and templating the Ag70shell. The ~tBuPhS-and CF3COO-ligands on the silver shell show a regioselective arrangement with the 60 ~tBuPhS-ligands as expanders covering the upper and lower of the flying saucer and 10 CF3COO-as terminators neatly encircling the edges of the structure. In addition, Ag102 shows excellent photothermal conversion efficiency（η） from the visible to near-infrared region（η = 67.1% ± 0.9% at 450 nm, 60.9% ± 0.9% at 660 nm and 50.2% ± 0.5% at 808 nm）, rendering it a promising material for photothermal converters and potential application in remote laser ignition. This work not only captures silver kernels with the topology of the smallest fullerene C20, but also provides a pathway for incorporating alkali metal（M） into coinage metal NCs via M-oxoanions.

Enhancing the Tribological Performance of Conductive Grease Through the Modification of Polypyrrole with Ionic Liquids

This study prepared four types of ionic liquid-modified polypyrrole(IL-modified PPy)as conductive additives and investigated their tribological performance and conductivity in polytetrafluoroethylene lubricating *** results indicated that IL-modified PPy effectively enhanced the anti-wear performance and conductivity of the base *** the additives,1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate([OMIm][BF4])modified PPy showed superior performance compared to the other three additives,with the best effect observed at a mass fraction of 0.5%.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis revealed that IL-modified PPy forms a stable friction chemical film during the friction process,effectively enhancing the lubrication performance and conductivity of the base *** indicates broad potential applications in the field of conductive lubrication.

A virtual thermometer for ultrahigh-temperature-pressure experiments in a large-volume press

Ultrahigh-temperature-pressure experiments are crucial for understanding the physical and chemical properties of *** recent development of boron-doped diamond(BDD)heaters has made such melting experiments possible in large-volume ***,estimates of temperatures above 2600 K and of the temperature distributions inside BDD heaters are not well constrained,owing to the lack of a suitable ***,we establish a three-dimensional finite element model as a virtual thermometer to estimate the temperature and temperature field above 2600 *** advantage of this virtual thermometer over those proposed in previous studies is that it considers both alternating and direct current heating modes,the actual sizes of cell assemblies after compression,the effects of the electrode,thermocouple and anvil,and the heat dissipation by the pressure-transmitting *** virtual thermometer reproduces the power-temperature relationships of ultrahigh-temperature-pressure experiments below 2600 K at press loads of 2.8-7.9 MN(~19 to 28 GPa)within experimental *** temperatures above 2600 K predicted by our virtual thermometer are within the uncertainty of those extrapolated from power-temperature relationships below 2600 ***,our model shows that the temperature distribution inside a BDD heater(19-26 K/mm along the radial direction and<83 K/mm along the longitudinal direction)is more homogeneous than those inside conventional heaters such as graphite or LaCrO_(3) heaters(100-200 K/mm).Our study thus provides a reliable virtual thermometer for ultrahigh-temperature experiments using BDD heaters in Earth and material sciences.
