Cenozoic stratigraphy of Taiwan:Window into rifting,stratigraphy and paleoceanography of South china Sea

Shallow marine sequences of the northern South china Sea (SCS) are uplifted and exposed by plate convergence in the Taiwan mountain belt. These deposits provide detailed geological information about the rifting event, stratigraphy, sedimentology, paleoclimate and paleoceanography of the shallow SCS to compare with what are recorded in the ODP 1148 deep-sea core. Seismic surveys and marine micropalentological studies show that Eocene sequences in the offshore Taiwan Strait and onland Taiwan mountain belt are all deposited in rifting basins and are covered unconformably by the Late Oligocene-Neogene post-rifting strata. Between syn-rifting and post-rifting sequences, there is a regional break-up unconformity throughout the island. Early Oligocene and Late Eocene strata are missing along the break-up unconformity equivalent to the T7 unconformity in the Pearl River Mouth Basin off south china. This may suggest that the SCS oceanic crust could have initiated between 33 and 39 Ma. Neither obvious stratigraphic gap nor slumping features are found in the Oligocene-Miocene transition interval of Taiwan. This observation highly contrasts with what has been documented from the ODP 1148 deep-sea core. This suggests that the stratigraphic gap and slumping features could only be recorded in the SCS deep sea region, but not in the shallow shelf near Taiwan. Compared to the Middle Miocene paleoceanographic re-organization events in the SCS deep sea, the geological history of the Taiwan shallow sequence shows changes of in sedimentation and faunal composition. Due to the Antarctic glacial expansion at^14 Ma, Middle to late Miocene strata of the Western Foothills show progressive regression sedimentations associated with a decrease of benthic foraminif-eral abundance and a sharp faunal turnover event. AIM: To examine the methylation levels of interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase 3(IRAK3) and GLOXD1 and their potential clinical applications in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS: m RNA expression and promoter methylation of IRAK3 and GLOXD1 in HCC cells were analyzed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RTPCR) and methylation-specific PCR(MSP), respectively. Using pyrosequencing results, we further established a quantitative MSP(Q-MSP) system for the evaluation of IRAK3 and GLOXD1 methylation in 29 normal controls and 160 paired HCC tissues and their adjacent nontumor tissues. We also calculated Kaplan-Meier survival curves to determine the applications of gene methylation in the prognosis of ***: IRAK3 and GLOXD1 expression was partially restored in several HCC cell lines after treatment with 5-aza-2′-deoxycytidine(DNA methyltransferase inhibitor; 5DAC). A partial decrease in the methylated band was also observed in the HCC cell lines after 5DAC treatment. Using GLOXD1 as an example, we found a significant correlation between the data obtained from the methylation array and from pyrosequencing. The methylation frequency of IRAK3 and GLOXD1 in HCC tissues was 46.9% and 63.8%, respectively. Methylation of IRAK3 was statistically associated with tumor stage. Moreover, HCC patients with IRAK3 methylation had a trend toward poor 3-year disease-free survival(P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: IRAK3 and GLOXD1 were frequently methylated in HCC tissues compared to normal controls and nontumor tissues. IRAK3 methylation was associated with tumor stage and poor prognosis of patients. These data suggest that IRAK3 methylation is a novel prognostic marker in HCC.

Feasibility study of renewable e-methanol production:A substitution pathway from blue to green

Producing renewable e-methanol from e-hydrogen and diverse carbon sources is an essential way for clean methanol *** this,the technical and economic feasibility of different e-methanols has yet to be thoroughly compared,leaving the most promising pathway to achieve commercialization yet *** paper reports a preliminary analysis of the lifecycle greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions and costs of four renewable e-methanols with different carbon sources:bio-carbon,direct air capture(DAC),fossil fuel carbon capture(FFCC),and *** results indicate that renewable e-methanol costs(4167−10250 CNY/tonne)2−4 times the market rate of grey ***,with the carbon tax and the projected decline in e-H2 costs,blue e-methanol may initially replace diesel in inland navigation,followed by a shift from heavy fuel oil(HFO)to green e-methanol in ocean ***,the e-H2 cost and the availability of green carbon are vital factors affecting cost-effectiveness.A reduction in e-H2 cost from 2.1 CNY/Nm3 to 1.1 CNY/Nm3 resulting from a transition from an annual to a daily scheduling period,could lower e-methanol costs by 1200 to 2100 *** paper also provides an in-depth discussion on the challenges and opportunities associated with the various green carbon sources.

Determination of the Kelvin-Helmholtz Wave Parameters on the Magnetopause in Single-spacecraft Observations

Kelvin-Helmholtz(K-H) waves are formed from the triggering of the K-H instability on the magnetopause,which is a candidate mechanism for solar wind entry into the magnetosphere,especially under northward interplanetary magnetic field *** this study,a K-H wave event was identified from the observation of probe B of the Time History of Events and Macroscale Interactions during Substorms(THEMIS) mission on 15 May 2008.A new method to determine the wave parameters of the K-H waves in single-spacecraft observations is *** dominant wave period is determined by three kinds of spectrograms for three key parameters,namely the ion density,the ion temperature,and the z component of magnetic *** phase velocity is estimated by calculating the center-of-mass velocity of the detected K-H vortex *** approximation is validated by comparison with other alternative *** method to determine the wave parameters is a first step to further study K-H wave properties and their relationship with interplanetary conditions.

Demodulation algorithm with movement robustness for optical camera communications

Due to the low sampling rate of the camera based receiver, the movement of communication devices becomes a factor that cannot be ignored in the demodulation of optical camera communications(OCC). In this paper, we propose the block matching demodulation(BMD) algorithm, which is a movement-robust and optical-interference-resistant demodulation method for OCC. The BMD algorithm can resist the movement of communication devices by locating communication light source per image and immunize optical interference by utilizing the fast time-varying characteristic of communication light source. Moreover, in order to enhance the reliability of communication systems, BMD algorithm and Manchester decoding are combined to realize error detection and correction without increasing the overhead of encoding. Finally, we build a practical mobile OCC system to test the performance of BMD algorithm. Experimental results show that the BMD algorithm can resist the movement of communication devices effectively and achieve reliable demodulation.

Preparation of poly(glutamic acid) shielding micelles self-assembled from polylysine-b-polyphenylalanine for gene and drug codelivery

A novel amphiphilic cationic block copolymer polylysine-b-polyphenylalanine(PLL-b-PPhe)was synthesized and self-assembled into micelles in aqueous solution,then shielded with poly(glutamic acid)(marked as PG/PLL-b-PPhe)to codeliver gene and drug for combination cancer ***,doxorubicin(DOX)was selected to be loaded into PLL-b-PPhe micelles and the drug loading efficiency was 8.0%.The drug release studies revealed that the PLL-b-PPhe micelles were pH sensitive and the released DOX could reach to 53.0%,65.0%,72.0%at pH 7.4,6.8 and 5.0,*** order to reduce positive charge and cytotoxicity of PLL-b-PPhe micelles,PG was used as shelding,simultaneously condensed with Bcl2 siRNA to form gene carrier *** with PEI,PG/PLL-b-PPhe had excellent gene transfection efficiency,especially when the molar ratio of PLL to PPhe was 30:60 and the mixed mass ratio of PLL-b-PPhe to gene was 5:*** importantly,DOX and Bcl2 siRNA gene codelivery system displayed remarkable cytotoxicity against B16 F10 *** laser scanning microscopy(CLSM)and flow cytometry were used to characterize endocytosis of the codelivery system,and confirmed that both DOX and Bcl2 siRNA had been endocytosed into B16 F10 *** above results indicated that gene and drug codelivery was a promising strategy in future cancer therapy.

Hydrogen detection with a high sensitivity is necessary for preventing potential explosions and *** this study,a novel ZnO tribotronic transistor is developed by coupling a ZnO field effect transistor （FET） and triboelectric nanogenerator in free-standing mode and is used as a sensor for hydrogen detection at room *** modulated performances of the hydrogen sensor are demonstrated by investigating its output characteristics at different sliding distances and hydrogen *** applying an external mechanical force to the device for sliding electrification,the detection sensitivity of the ZnO tribotronic transistor sensor is improved,with a significant enhancement achieved in output current by 62 times at 500 ppm hydrogen and 1 V bias *** study demonstrates an extension of the applications of emerging tribotronics for gas detection and a prospective approach to improve the performance of the hydrogen sensor via human-interfacing.

Effect of Cu on dehydrogenation and thermal stability of amorphous Mg-Ce-Ni-Cu alloys

The alloying element component is very crucial in improving the hydrogen storage performance of amorphous *** this work,quaternary amorphous Mg70-xCe10Ni20Cux（x=3,7.5,10）alloys were prepared by meltspinning and the effect of Cu on hydrogenation and dehydrogenation were investigated in comparison with the Mg70-xCe10Ni20amorphous *** initial hydrogenation kinetics of amorphous Mg70-xCe10Ni20Cux（x=0,3,7.5,10）was improved with the increase of Cu content according to the kinetics measured at a temperature below crystallization *** hydrogen is absorbed,an amorphous-amorphous transition occurred,and relatively high Cu content would lead to phase separation in the hydrogenation *** phase have much higher crystallization temperature after it absorbs hydrogen and the addition of Cu could increase the crystallization activation energy of amorphous *** addition,the increase of Cu content could reduce the dehydrogenation temperature of amorphous hydrides,which gives a significant indication for future improving research of the hydrogen desorption performance of Mg based amorphous hydrides.

Influence of drying and calcination temperatures for Ce-Cu-Al trimetallic composite catalyst on simultaneous removal H_(2)S and PH_(3):Experimental and DFT studies

This work explored the influences of the drying and calcination temperatures on a Ce-Cu-Al trimetallic composite catalyst for the simultaneous removal of H_(2)S and PH_(3).The effects of both temperatures on the structural features and activity were *** density functional theory method was used to calculate adsorption energies and further analyze their adsorption behavior on different *** revealed suitable drying and calcination temperatures to be 60 and 500℃,*** capacity reached 323.8 and 288.1 mg/*** drying temperature to 60℃is more inclined to form larger and structured grains of *** calcinating temperature to 500℃could increase the grain size and redox capacity of CuO to promote *** temperatures would destroy the surface structure and lead to a crystal phase transformation,which was that the CuO and Al_(2)O_(3)were gradually recombined into CuAl_(2)O_(4)with a spinel *** exposed crystal planes of surficial CuO and CuAl_(2)O_(4)were determined according to characterization *** results showed that,compared with CuO(111),H_(2)S and PH_(3)have weaker adsorption strength on CuAl_(2)O_(4)(100)which is not conducive to their adsorption and removal.
