Endometriosis coexisting with dermoid cyst in a single ovary： a case report

Endometriosis coexisting with a dermoid cyst of the ovary is extraordinarily rare, although these both benign conditions are said to be common in women in the reproductive age group. There are only two previous case reports, which is evident from our literature review from January 1960 through January 2010. Acute abdomen is one of the greatest diagnostic challenges and easily ignored by the clinicians to exclude the possibility of gynecologic illness. A 35-year-old woman was referred by the doctor in Family clinic. She experienced a three-day period of severe right lower abdominal pain and intermittent vomiting. Ultrasonography identified a bilocular, cystic, hypoechoic, and hyperechoic tumor, 7 cm×6 cm×6 cm in the right adnexal region. Laparoscopic cystectomy was performed under the impression of ovarian cyst with torsion or hemorrhage. The frozen section was benign and appendiceal status was adequate. Histopathologic examination described an ovarian cyst composed of endometrial-type lining with stroma cells （endometriosis） and benign terotoma tissue with plenty of skin appendages and sebaceous glands. We report this unusual and interesting ovarian mass to remind physicians that the usage of the Endobag after cystectomy, the benefits on minimizing operative time, spilled opportunity, and postoperative complications. Laparoscopic techniques for large ovarian masses might be considered. The experience of the surgeon is also very important to prevent misdiagnosis or complication. Further follow up is mandatory for this simultaneous finding of ovarian endometriosis with coincidental dermoid cyst as a separate pathology in single ovary of such a nature. It also presents a challenge to the clinicians and to the pathologists.

A Three-Point Method for Separating Incident and Reflected Waves over A Sloping Bed

This study presents a three-point method for separating incident and reflected waves to explain normally incident waves' propagating over a sloping bed. linear wave shoaling is used to determine changes in wave amplitude and phase in response to variations of bathymetry. The wave reflection coefficient and incident amplitude are estimated from wave heights measured at three fixed wave gauges with unequal spacing. Sensitivity analysis demonstrates that the proposed method can predict the reflection and amplitude of waves over a sloping bed more accurately than the two-point method.

With the relentless densification of interconnected circuitry dictated by Moore’ s Law,the CMP manufacture of such delicate wafers requires the significant reduction of polishing pressure of integrated circuits,not only globally,but also locally on every tip of the pad *** diamond disks used for dressing the polyurethane pads cannot produce asperities to achieve such uniformity.A new design of diamond disk was fabricated by casting diamond film on a silicon wafer that contains patterned etching pits. This silicon mold was subsequently removed by dissolution in a hydroxide *** diamond film followed the profile of the etching pits on silicon to form pyramids of identical in size and *** variation of their tip heights was in microns of single digit that was about one order of magnitude smaller than conventional diamond disks for CMP ***,the diamond film contained no metal that might contaminate the circuits on polished wafer during a CMP *** continuous diamond film could resist any corrosive attack by slurry of acid or ***,in-situ dressing during CMP is possible that may improve wafer uniformity and production *** ideal diamond disk(IDD) is designed for the future manufacture of advanced semiconductor chips with node sizes of 32 nm or smaller.

Estimation of Water Particle Velocities by Empirical Transfer Function

In previous and this studies it appears that the linear and nonlinear wave theory-can not accurately and easily predict the water particle velocities: Therefore, different from the theoretical considerations, in this study we have attempted to determine the transfer function empirically. Laboratory experiments were performed under various wave conditions. The empirical formulas of the transfer function of the wave height, angular frequency and water particle velocity were obtained on the basis of these test data by dimensional analysis and regression analysis. In intermediate and deep water depth conditions, the transfer function was only a function of a nondimensional parameter which is composed of the angular frequency, the depth of the velocity gauge under the still water level, water depth and the acceleration of gravity. Finally, the empirical formulas were compared with experimental data and observational data form present and Cavaleri's (1978) studies. The empirical formulas were found to be in sufficient correltion with these data.

Long Wave Reflection and Transmission over A Sloping Step

This investigation examines long wave reflection and transmission induced by a sloping step. Bellman and Kalaba's (1959) invariant imbedding is introduced to find wave reflection. An alternative method matching both the surface elevation and its surface slope of each region at the junction is applied to the determination of wave reflection and transmission. The proposed methods are compared with the accurate numerical results of Porter and Porter (2000) and those of Mei (1983) for a vertical step. The wave reflection obtained for a mildly sloping step differs significantly from the result of Mei. The wave reflection is found to fluctuate owing to wave trapping for the mild sloping step. The height and the face slope of the step are important for determining wave reflection and transmission coefficients.

Clinical characteristics and prognostic factors of splenic abscess:A review of 67 cases in a single medical center of Taiwan

AIM： To analyze 67 cases of splenic abscess in a medica center of Taiwan during a period of 19 years. METHODS： From January 1986 to December 2004, a total of 67 patients with splenic abscess were enrolled for the retrospective study. The clinical characteristics, underlying diseases, organism spectra, therapeutic methods, APACHE Ⅱ scores, and mortality rates were analyzed. RESULTS： There were 41 males and 26 females with the mean age of 54.14-14.1 years. Multiple splenic abscesses （MSA） account for 28.4% and solitary splenic abscess in 71.6% of the patients. Twenty-six of sixtyseven patients （35.8%） had extrasplenic abscesses, with leading site of liver （34.6%）, Microbiological cultures were positive in 58 patients （86.6%）, with 71.8% in blood culture and 93.5% in abscess culture. Gram negative bacillus （GNB） infection predominated （55.2%）, with leading pathogen of Klebslella pneumoniae （22.4%）, followed by gram positive coccus （GPC） infection （31%）. Splenectomy was performed in 26 patients （38.8%）, percutaneous drainage or aspiration in 21 （31.3%）, and antibiotic therapy alone in 20 patients （29.9%）. Eventually, 12 of 67 patients expired （17.9 %）. By statistics, spleen infected with GNB was likely to develop multiple abscesses compared with infection with GPC （P=0.036）. Patients with GNB infection （P=0.009） and multiple abscesses （P=0.011） experienced a higher mortality rate than patients with GPC infection and solitary abscess. The mean APACHE Ⅱ score of 12 ex- pired patients （16.3±3.2） was significantly higher than that of the 55 survivals （7.2 ± 3.8）（P〈 0.001）. CONCLUSION： MSA, GNB infection, and high APACHE Ⅱ scores are poor prognostic factors. Early surgical intervention should be encouraged when these risk factors are present.

Characterization of solid particles sampled from condensates in boiling water reactor

The growth, activation and deposition of corrosion products are the primary sources of radiation buildup on the surface of out-of-core piping in nuclear power plants. The buildup of radiation can have negative effects on the performance of the facility and cause harm to staff during maintenance outages for refueling. This paper reports on the crystalline and amorphous structures of corrosion products sampled in the boiling water reactors in nuclear power plants of kuo-Sheng and identified using an acid dissolving technique. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microprobe and inductively coupled plasmaatomic emission spectroscopy were used to analyze the samples. The results indicate that the quantity of amorphous iron oxide at inlet of the condensate demineralizer in Unit 2 is higher than that in Unit 1. The proportion of crystalline to amorphous corrosion products can affect the efficiency of removal. Thus, these results can be used to explain the difference in removal efficiency of condensate demineralizers in different units. Moreover, the iron oxide structures with various properties were observed in different operational periods. It is probable that the higher proportion of amorphous structures with a smaller particle size would reduce efficiency in the removal of condensate demineralization in Unit 2.

VISCOPLASTIC COLLAPSE OF SHARP-NOTCHED CIRCULAR TUBES UNDER CYCLIC BENDING

This study discusses the experimental result of the viscoplastic response and col- lapse of sharp-notched 316L stainless steel tubes with different notched depths subjected to cyclic bending. The tube bending machine and curvature-ovalization measurement apparatus were used for conducting the symmetric curvature-controlled cyclic bending. To highlight the viscoplastic behavior, three different curvature-rates, 0.0035, 0.035 and 0.35 m-1s-1, were controlled. Ob- servations of a certain curvature-rate reveal that five almost parallel lines corresponding to five different notch-depth （0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0 mm） tubes were presented in the experimental relationship between the cyclic controlled curvature and the number of cycles needed to pro- duce buckling on a log-log scale. However, the slopes for the three different curvature-rates are different. An empirical formulation was proposed to simulate the aforementioned relationship. When comparing with the experimental findings, the simulation was in good agreement with the experimental data.

Matched glass-to-Kovar seals in N_2 and Ar atmospheres

The oxidation of Kovar alloy was investigated, the wetting and spreading behavior of hard and soft glasses on Kovar alloy were studed by using the sessile drop method, and the quality and the seal strength of glass-Kovar seals were tested. The experimental results indicated that the preoxidation of Kovar alloy for approximately 10 min at 700℃ in air resulted in excellent adherence in glass-Kovar seals. The wetting and spreading behavior of glass on preoxidized Kovar alloy were superior to that on nonoxidized Kovar alloy. The wetting ability of ASF110 glass, at 950℃ and 980℃ in Ar and N2 atmospheres, was significantly superior to that of ASF200R and ASF700 glasses. The seal quality of the glass-preoxidized Kovar seal was superior to that of the glass-nonoxidized Kovar seal. The shear strength of the ASFll0 glass-preoxidized Kovar seal, which was prepared at 980℃ for 20 min in an Ar atmosphere, was approximately 3.9 MPa.

A novel small band-gap conjugated polymer - poly [(3-acetylpyrrole-2,5-diyl)(4-dimethylaminobenzyliene)(3-acetylpyrrolequinodimethane-2,5-diyl)] (PAPDMABE) - and its precursor were synthesized by a simple method and characterized by H-1-NMR, FT-IR, TGA and UV-VIS. The polymer can be dissolved in strong polar solvents such as DMSO, DMF or NMP. The band-gap energy of PAPDMABE, was found to be 0.95 eV. The conductivity of doped products with iodine falls in the range of a semiconductor.
