Papaya is a rich source of nutrients,antioxidants,and vitamins;however,it is highly perishable and hence needs to be preserved using suitable unit *** is an economical method of papaya treatment,but results in the loss of essential nutrients and also degrades its pigments,color,and ***,this work aims to utilize ultrasound and osmotic dehydration as pretreatment strategies to preserve the rich composition of papaya during conventional hot air *** dried papaya slices were evaluated for moisture content,water activity,total phenolic content,β-carotene,color,antioxidant activity,microstructure,and *** showed that sample pretreatment with 33 kHz ultrasound frequency and dehydrated with 35°Brix osmotic solution resulted in lower moisture content(<12%w.b.)and water activity(<0.41),high phenolic content(88.5 mg GAE/mL),highβ-carotene content(184.54 mg/g)and antioxidant capacity(48.3%),and preserved color after *** texture(hardness)of the pretreated samples was also more desirable from an industrial standpoint,which was further validated using SEM micrographs that showed a more porous *** study concludes that pretreatment of papaya slices with ultrasound and osmotic dehydration is recommended before drying.

Hydrous Cr-bearing uvarovite garnets are rare in natural occurrences and belong to the ugrandite series and exist in binary solid solutions with grossular and andradite garnets. Here, we report the occurrence of hydrous uvarovite garnet having Cr_(2)O_(3) upto 19.66 wt% and CaO of 32.12–35.14 wt% in the serpentinized mantle peridotites of Naga Hills Ophiolite(NHO), India. They occur in association with low-Cr diopsides. They are enriched in LILE(Ba, Sr), LREEs, with fractionating LREE-MREE [avg.(La/Sm)_(N) = 2.16] with flat MREE/HREE patterns [avg.(Sm/Yb)_(N) = 0.95]. Raman spectra indicate the presence of hydroxyl(OH^(–)) peaks from 3500 to 3700 cm^(-1). Relative abundances in fluid mobile elements and their close association with clinopyroxenes are suggestive of the formation of uvarovite garnets through low temperature metasomatic alteration of low-Cr diopsides by hydrothermal slab fluids. The high LREE concentration and absence of Eu anomaly in the garnet further attest to alkaline nature of the transporting slab dehydrated fluid rather the involvement of low-p H solution. The chemical characteristics of the hydroxyl bearing uvarovite hosted by the mantle peridotite of NHO deviate from the classical features of uvarovite garnet, and their origin is attributed to the fluid-induced metasomatism of the sub arc mantle wedge in a suprasubduction zone regime.

Over the last few years,the need of a cloud environment with the ability to detect illegal behaviours along with a secured data storage capability has increased *** study presents such a secured cloud storage framework comprising of a deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA)based encryption key which has been generated to make the framework unbreakable,thus ensuring a better and secured distributed cloud storage ***,this work proposes a novel DNA-based encryption technique inspired by the biological characteristics of DNA and the protein synthesis *** introduced DNA based model also has an additional advantage of being able to decide on selecting suitable storage servers from an existing pool of storage servers on which the data must be stored.A fuzzy-based technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution(TOFSIS)multi-criteria decisionmaking(MCDM)model has been employed to achieve the above-mentioned *** can decide the set of suitable storage servers and also results in a reduction in execution time by keeping up the level of security to an improved *** study also investigates and analyzes the strength of the proposed S-Box and encryption technique against some standard criteria and benchmarks,such as avalanche effect,correlation coefficient,information entropy,linear probability,and differential probability *** the avalanche effect analysis,the average change in cipher-text has been found to be 51.85%.Moreover,thorough security,sensitivity and functionality analysis show that the proposed scheme guarantees high security with robustness.

Grass pea offers an attractive choice for sustainable food production, owing to its intrinsic properties including limited water requirement and drought tolerance. However, low productivity and the presence of a neurotoxin(ODAP) have posed major obstacles to its genetic improvement. Also, biotechnological investments remain limited and the genome is complex and not well understood. Strategies that allow identification of genotypes with reduced ODAP content, coupling of low ODAP content with enhanced yield, and effective seed detoxification methods merit immediate attention. Breeder-friendly genomic tools are being increasingly made available to improve the efficiency of breeding protocols. To this end, the application of next-generation sequencing has provided a means of leveraging the repertoire of genomic resources for this somewhat neglected crop. In this review, we describe progress achieved in Lathyrus genetic improvement. We also explore potential opportunities in Lathyrus research and identify urgent research needs.

Use of a Bioaugmented Organic Soil Amendment in Combination with Gypsum for Withania somnifera Growth on Sodic Soil

Limited availability of organic matter is a problem to sustain crop growth on sodic soil. Organic soil amendments are a costeffective source of nutrients to enhance crop growth. A field study was conducted to evaluate the effect of an organic soil amendment bioaugmented with plant growth-promoting fungi(SF_(OA) ) in combination with gypsum on soil properties and growth and yield attributes of Withania somnifera, one of the most valuable crops of the traditional medicinal system in the world, on a sodic soil at the Aurawan Research Farm of CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow, India. The SF_(OA) used was prepared by pre-enriching farm waste vermicompost with plant growth-promoting fungi before mixing with pressmud and Azadirachta indica seed cake. The application of SF_(OA) at 10 Mg ha^(-1)after gypsum(25.0 Mg ha^(-1)) treatment significantly(P < 0.05) increased root length(by 96%) and biomass(by 125%) of Withania plants compared to the control without SF_(OA) and gypsum. Similarly, the highest withanolide contents were observed in leaves and roots of Withania plants under 10 Mg ha^(-1)SF_(OA) and gypsum. Combined application of SF_(OA) and gypsum also improved physical, chemical and enzymatic properties of the soil, with the soil bulk density decreasing by 25%, water-holding capacity increasing by 121%, total organic C increasing by 90%, p H decreasing by 17% and alkaline phosphatase, β-glucosidase, dehydrogenase and cellulase activities increasing by 54%, 128%, 81% and 96%, respectively, compared to those of the control. These showed that application of the SF_(OA) tested in this study might reclaim sodic soil and further support Withania cultivation and results were better when the SF_(OA) was applied after gypsum treatment.
