Recognition and rejection of foreign eggs of different colors in Barn Swallows

Brood parasitic birds lay eggs in the nests of other birds, and the parasitized hosts can reduce the cost of raising unrelated offspring through the recognition of parasitic eggs. Hosts can adopt vision-based cognitive mechanisms to recognize foreign eggs by comparing the colors of foreign and host eggs. However, there is currently no uniform conclusion as to whether this comparison involves the single or multiple threshold decision rules. In this study, we tested both hypotheses by adding model eggs of different colors to the nests of Barn Swallows(Hirundo rustica) of two geographical populations breeding in Hainan and Heilongjiang Provinces in China. Results showed that Barn Swallows rejected more white model eggs(moderate mimetic to their own eggs) and blue model eggs(highly non-mimetic eggs with shorter reflectance spectrum) than red model eggs(highly nonmimetic eggs with longer reflectance spectrum). There was no difference in the rejection rate of model eggs between the two populations of Barn Swallows, and clutch size was not a factor affecting egg recognition. Our results are consistent with the single rejection threshold model. This study provides strong experimental evidence that the color of model eggs can has an important effect on egg recognition in Barn Swallows, opening up new avenues to uncover the evolution of cuckoo egg mimicry and explore the cognitive mechanisms underlying the visual recognition of foreign eggs by hosts.

The Silurian palaeontology and stratigraphy of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau have been studied for more than100 *** the launch of the Second Tibetan Plateau Scientific Expedition and Research,it is necessary to update the summaries of the Silurian stratigraphy and fossil assemblages of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and their correlation with its surrounding *** this study,we have selected 33 sections from the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and its surroundings areas,summarised the available data in terms of stratigraphic regionalisation,lithostratigraphy,chronostratigraphy,and biostratigraphy,and divided the study area into four stratigraphic provinces:the Xizang-Western Yunnan-Western Sichuan Province,the KunlunQilian Province,the South China Province,and the Tarim *** general,the Silurian strata in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is more complete than those in other areas of *** studies of the vertebrate faunas,sporomorph assemblages,and brachiopod faunas of the study area indicate a closer geographical relationship between the South China,Tarim,and Indochina palaeoplates,than previously *** with the surrounding areas where Silurian strata have been extensively studied,the study of Silurian strata in the main part of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is still in the preliminary *** the future,it is necessary to conduct research on the age,distribution,and resource potential of basal Silurian black shales to provide new directions for shale gas exploration and development in *** shallow marine strata of the middle to upper Silurian require further *** that the Silurian System in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is more complete,it has the potential to supplement and improve the study of the carbon isotope stratigraphy of the Silurian in China.

As the primary producers, acritarchs represent the base of the food chain in the Paleozoic marine ecosystem which links with the evolution of acritarchs. Based on high precision quantitative research, much information about Paleozoic marine ecosystem is provided. A quantitative analysis of Early-Middle Ordovician acritarch diversity changes in the Meitan Formation, Honghuayuan section, Tongzi, Guizhou is made and the the acritarch diversity curves are compared with sea level curves. We found that acritarch diversity changes were related to sea level changes during the Early-Middle Ordovician. Whereas sea level rose, and acritarch diversity also increased. An inshore-offshore model of acritarchs best explains the relative abundance changes of some acritarch taxa in relation to sea level changes.

Using partial entangled states as the quantum channel, two schemes for probabilistic remote preparation of the four-particle cluster-type state with real and complex coefficients are presented. In the first scheme, the sender and the receiver share two partial Bell states and one partial three-qubit GHZ stats as the quantum channel, and the sender can help a remote receiver to prepare a four-particle entangled cluster-type state by using three-qubit projective measurements with certain probability. In the second scheme, the quantum channel is composed of two partial three-qubit GHZ states, the remote state preparation(RSP) can be successfully realized via the positive operator valued measure(POVM), and the two-particle projective measurements are also needed in this process. The total success probability and classical communication cost are calculated.

目的探讨大黄糖络丸对2型糖尿病大鼠肝损伤的影响及机制。方法将ZDF(fa/fa)大鼠给予高脂饲料诱导2型糖尿病模型,造模成功后随机分为模型组、阳性药对照组(0.18 g·kg^(-1)二甲双胍)和低、中、高剂量实验组(0.54、1.08和2.16 g·kg^(-1)大黄糖络丸),每组8只。选取8只ZDF(fa/+)大鼠作为对照组。对照组及模型组灌服等体积纯净水,每日1次,持续12周。给药结束后进行口服葡萄糖耐量试验(OGTT);检测大鼠空腹血糖水平、体质量及肝质量并计算肝指数;检测血清谷丙转氨酶(GPT)、谷草转氨酶(GOT)、三酰甘油(TG)、总胆固醇(TC)含量;用苏木精-伊红(HE)染色法和马松(Masson)染色法观察肝组织形态学变化。用蛋白质印迹检测肝组织磷酸化胰岛素受体底物1(p-IRS1)、磷酸化蛋白激酶B(p-Akt)及葡萄糖转运蛋白4(GLUT4)的蛋白表达。结果对照组、模型组、阳性药对照组和高剂量实验组大鼠的空腹血糖分别为(4.71±0.45)、(29.90±2.97)、(15.28±4.52)和(13.84±1.55)mmol·L^(-1),肝指数分别为2.31±0.46、4.03±0.18、3.37±0.23和3.38±0.24,p-IRS1蛋白相对表达水平分别为1.00±0.36、4.00±0.11、1.62±0.27和1.90±0.17,p-Akt蛋白相对表达水平分别为1.00±0.25、0.21±0.04、0.73±0.15和0.54±0.04,GLUT4蛋白相对表达水平分别为1.00±0.11、0.40±0.08、0.86±0.04和0.70±0.06。高剂量实验组上述指标与模型组比较,在统计学上差异均有统计学意义(P<0.01,P<0.05)。结论大黄糖络丸可有效改善2型糖尿病糖脂代谢和肝损伤,其作用机制可能与IRS1/Akt信号通路的激活有关。

目的分析基于棘球蚴病病灶分型构建棘球蚴感染风险指数的可行性,从而为棘球蚴病防控提供参考。方法收集2012—2016年我国棘球蚴病流行病学调查中棘球蚴病病例病灶影像学资料及2017—2022年我国棘球蚴病防治工作年报中各流行省(自治区)及新疆生产建设兵团棘球蚴病新发现病例检出率数据。对棘球蚴病病灶进行分型后,参考离散分布边际概率原理和多分组分类数据检验方法构建棘球蚴感染风险指数。对该指数与2017—2022年各流行省(自治区)和新疆生产建设兵团棘球蚴病新发现病例检出率数据进行相关性分析,建立单因素线性回归模型分析近期与中期、中期与远期棘球蚴感染风险指数间关系。结果本研究累计纳入2012—2016年我国棘球蚴病病例4 014例。我国各棘球蚴病流行省(自治区)、新疆生产建设兵团间细粒棘球蚴近期、中期和远期感染风险指数均不相同(χ^(2)=4.12~708.65,P均 0.05);多房棘球蚴各期感染风险指数与2018、2020、2021、2022、2017—2020、2017—2021、2017—2022年泡型(含混合型)棘球蚴病新发现病例检出率均呈强相关(r均> 0.7,t=2.521~3.692,P均<0.05)。对多房棘球蚴各期感染风险指数与泡型(含混合型)棘球蚴病新发现病例检出率建立线性回归模型,均有统计学意义(b=0.214~2.168,t=2.458~3.692,F=6.044~13.629,P均<0.05)。中期与近期、远期与中期细粒棘球蚴感染风险指数间回归系数分别为2.339和0.765,中期与近期、远期与中期多房棘球蚴感染风险指数间回归系数分别为0.280和1.842,回归系数与回归模型均有统计学意义(t=16.479~197.304,F=271.570~38 928.860,P均<0.05)。结论成功建立了一种基于棘球蚴病病灶分型的棘球蚴感染风险指数,可望为棘球蚴病防控、预测、诊疗和分类管理提供参考。
