Lipoproteins are multi-molecule assemblies with the primary function of transportation and processing of lipophilic substances within aqueous bodily fluids(blood,cerebrospinal fluid).Nevertheless,they also exert other physiological functions such as immune *** particular,neurons are both sensitive to uncontrolled responses of the immune system and highly dependent on a controlled and sufficient supply of *** this reason,the role of certain lipoproteins and their protein-component(apolipoproteins,Apo’s)in neurological diseases is ***,for example,is well-accepted as one of the major risk factors for sporadic Alzheimer’s disease with a protective allele variant(ε2)and a risk-causing allele variant(ε4).ApoA1,the major protein component of high-density lipoproteins,is responsible for transportation of excess cholesterol from peripheral tissues to the *** protein is synthesized in the liver and intestine but also can enter the brain via the choroid plexus and thereby might have an impact on brain lipid *** review focuses on the role of ApoA1 in Alzheimer’s disease and discusses whether its role within this neurodegenerative disorder is specific or represents a general neuroprotective mechanism.

Membrane microdomains or lipid rafts are known to be highly dynamic and to act as selective signal transduction mediators that facilitate interactions between the cell's external and internal *** rafts play an important mediating role in the biology of cancer:they have been found in almost all existing experimental cancer models,including colorectal cancer (CRC),and play key regulatory roles in cell migration,metastasis,cell survival and tumor *** paper explores the current state of knowledge in this field by highlighting some of the pioneering and recent lipid raft studies performed on different CRC cell lines and human tissue *** this literature review,it becomes clear that membrane microdomains appear to be implicated in all key intracellular signaling pathways for lipid metabolism,drug resistance,cell adhesion,cell death,cell proliferation and many other processes in *** signal transduction pathways seem to originate directly from those peculiar lipid islands,thereby orchestrating the colon cancer cells' state and *** confirmed by recent animal and preclinical studies in different CRC models,continuing to unravel the structure and function of lipid rafts-including their associated complex signaling pathways-will likely bring us one step closer to better monitoring and treating of colon cancer patients.

The peculiar isomer-selective reduction of(α)-hydroxyiminophosphonates(oxime isomers)into(α)-hydroxyaminophosphonate(hydroxylamine)derivatives is presented.A library of 16(α)-hydroxyiminophosphonates is prepared and studied via a unique multifaceted approach involving the interplay of NMR,XRD,MS,IM-MS and computational chemistry *** combination of NMR,XRD and HPLC enables the seamless separation,identification and quantification of the oxime isomers(E/Z).Tandem MS(MS/MS)enables the determination of the fragmentation patterns for both *** energy breakdown curves highlight the order of apparition of the fragments as well as their related energy of fragmentation,demonstrating that the strength of the C–P bond in the Z isomers is much weaker than in the E *** chemistry demonstrates that favorable protonation site is isomer-dependent with the phosphonate moiety being the favorable protonation site for the E isomers,while protonation occurs preferentially on the amino moiety for Z isomers regardless of the phosphite *** combination of these various methods led an unprecedented level of characterization of oxime isomers,providing a better uderstanding of the isomer-dependent behavior of(α)-hydroxyiminophosphonates.

Single-nanoparticle electrochemistry has been established as a tool to characterize various nanomaterials based on the charge passed during their random impact at an *** it is demonstrated that the duration and shape of the resulting current peak can be used to quantify the reaction kinetics on a single-particle *** the chemical rate constant and reaction mechanism for oxidation of single nanoparticles in different electrolytes can be determined directly from the duration of the current signal recorded in high-speed,high-sensitivity current *** 29-nm-sized Ag particles in four different electrolytes as a proof of concept for this general approach,hitherto inaccessible insights into single-particle reactivity are *** comparable rate constants were measured for the four electrolytes at low overpotentials,transport-limited impacts at high overpotentials were found to depend strongly on the type and quantity of anions present in solution.

Atrial fibrillation （AF） in the elderly occurs as a consequence of cardiovascular aging and an age related increase of comorbidity. Several predisposing factors for AF have been identified for the overall AF population. Most of them, cardiovascular disease in particular, play a role in younger and older patients. The longer time period during which these risk factors can cause structural changes that ultimately lead to AF may, at least in part, explain the association between age and AF. In addition, less well defined age-related changes in cellular electrophysi- ologic properties and structure predispose to AF in the elderly.

Spinal cord injury is a devastating condition that is followed by long and often unsuccessful recovery after trauma. The state of the art approach to manage paralysis and concomitant impairments is rehabilitation, which is the only strategy that has proven to be effective and beneficial for the patients over the last decades. How rehabilitation influences the remodeling of spinal axonal connections in patients is important to understand, in order to better target these changes and define the optimal timing and onset of training. While clinically the answers to these questions remain difficult to obtain, rodent models of rehabilitation like bicycling, treadmill training, swimming, enriched environments or wheel running that mimic clinical rehabilitation can be helpful to reveal the axonal changes underlying motor recovery. This review will focus on the different animal models of spinal cord injury rehabilitation and the underlying changes in neuronal networks that are improved by exercise and rehabilitation.

The minimal two-dimensional model of bursting neuronal dynamics is used to study the influence of time-delay on the properties of synchronization of bursting neurons. Generic properties of bursting and dependence of the stability of synchronization on the time-lag and the strength of coupling are described, and compared with the two common types of synaptical coupling, i.e., time-delayed chemical and electrical synapses.
