An open-label study of alefacept plus ultravioletB light as combination therapy for chronic plaque psoriasisOrtonne j.P./Khemis A./koo j./Choi j. [***-onne, l’ Archet II, 15, R. de S. Antoine de Ginestiere, Nice, Cé dex 03, France]Background: Alefacept, a fully human LFA-3/IgG1 fusion protein, is a selective biological agent approved in theUnited States for the treatment of chronic plaque psoriasis. In phase 3 trials, clinical improvement and prolonged off-treatment remission of psoriasis correlated with reductions in circulating memory T cells. Reductions in pathogenic epidermal T cells in psoriatic lesions also have been noted following phototherapy with ultraviolet B (UVB) light. Because alefacept and UVB target T cells in different ways, combination therapy with these two agents may lead to greater efficacy. Obj.ctives: To determine the safety, tolerability, and efficacy trends of combination therapy with alefacept plus UVB light in patients with chronic plaque psoriasis. Methods: In an open-label, parallel-group study conducted at two sites, one in France and one in the United States, patients with chronic plaque psoriasis who were candidates for phototherapy received 12-weekly intramuscular inj.ctions of alefacept, 15 mg. In addition, patients were randomized to one of three treatment arms: no UVB treatment, 6-week UVB treatment, and 12-week UVB treatment. UVB treatment consisted of narrowband (NB) UVB at the site in France and broadband (BB) UVB at the site in the United States. The 12-week treatment period was followed by a 12-week follow-up period. Clinic visits occurred weekly during treatment and every 2-4 weeks during follow-up. Results: A total of 60 patients (n =30/site)were enrolled in the study. Alefacept was well tolerated when administered in combination with UVB treatment and as monotherapy. There was no evidence of increased phototoxicity or photosensitivity with the combination. Oyster Shell Recycling and Bone Waste Treatment Using Plasma Pyrolysis

Investigations on the recycling plasma pyrolysis technique are presented in 25 kW was employed for the experiments. of oyster shells and bone waste treatment using the this paper. A arc based plasma torch operated at Fresh oyster shells were recycled using the plasma torch to convert them to a useful product such as CaO. Bone waste was treated to remove the infectious organic part and to vitrify the inorganic part. The time required for treatment in both cases was significantly short. Significant reduction in the weight of the samples was observed in both cases.

Improvement in the Adhesion Between Electrode of a SOFC and Ag Paste as a Current Collector by Au Deposition

This paper reports the use of Au films to improve the performance of the stacked solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC) based on the characterization of the interface and the adhesion between the electrodes of the SOFCs and the Ag paste. The specimens were manufactured to perform the experiment as follows. A Si O2 wafer with a 300 mm notch was attached to the electrodes of a SOFC by a Ag paste and Au film, which were deposited on the electrodes by sputtering for 1 min or 5 min deposition time and annealed at300 C for 1 h. The four-point bending test was performed, which resulted in the formation of an extended crack at the tip on the wafer notch, and the crack propagation was observed using a stereo microscope equipped with a charge-coupled device(CCD). Consequently, the interfacial adhesion energy and the effect of the Au film between the each electrode and the Ag paste can be evaluated. On the cathode, the interfacial adhesion energy without Au film was 2.59 j.m2(upper value) and the adhesion energy increased to 11.59 j.m2(upper value) and 15.89 j.m2(lower value) with the Au film. On the anode,the interfacial adhesion energy without Au film was 1.74 j.m2(upper value), which increased to 11.07 j.m2(upper value) and 14.74 j.m2(lower value) with the Au film. In addition, the interface areas were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) to estimate the interface delamination.

The H_∞ synchronization of nonlinear Bloch systems via dynamic feedback control approach

We consider an H∞ synchronization problem in nonlinear Bloch systems. Based on Lyapunov stability theory and linear matrix inequality formulation, a dynamic feedback controller is designed to guarantee asymptotic stability of the master-slave synchronization. Moreover, this controller reduces the effect of an external disturbance to the H∞ norm constraint. A numerical example is given to validate the proposed synchronization scheme.

The insistent demand for space-controllable delivery,which reduces the side effects of non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs(NSAIDs),has led to the development of a new theranostics-based approach for anti-inflammatory *** current anti-inflammatory treatments can be improved by designing a drug delivery system responsive to the inflammatory site biomarker,hydrogen polysulfide(H_(2)S_(n)).Here,we report a noveltheranostic agent 1(TA1),consisting of three parts:H_(2)S_(n)-mediated triggering part,a two-photon fluorophore bearing mitochondria targeting unit(Rhodol-TPP),and anti-inflammatory COX inhibitor(indomethacin).In vitro experiments showed that TA1 selectively reacts with H_(2)S_(n)to concomitantly release both Rhodol-TPP and ***-microscopy imaging of inflammation-inducedlive cells suggested that TA1 is localized in the mitochondria where the H_(2)S_(n)is *** TA1 reacted with H_(2)S_(n)in the endogenous and exogenous H_(2)S_(n)environments and in lipopolysaccharide treated inflammatory ***,TA1 suppressed COX-2 level in the inflammatory-induced cells and prostaglandin E 2(PGE2)level in blood serum from inflammation-induced mouse *** vivo experiments with inflammation-induced mouse models suggested that TA1 exhibits inflammation-site-elective drug release followed by significant therapeutic e ects,showing its function as a theranostic agent,capable of both anti-inflammatory therapy and precise *** behavior of TA1 is highly applicable in vivo model therapeutics for the inflammatory disease.

A renormalization group approach to crowd psychology and inter-group coupling in social many-body systems

By adopting maj.rity rule within a renormalization group approach,we can show that the strength of inter-group interaction in a social system either grows or shrinks monotonically with increasing group size,depending on the initial coupling strength of individuals in the *** contrasts with the findings of previous studies in which the strength of the interaction grows with group size regardless of the initial *** approach clearly demonstrates that the phenomena of crowd psychology,such as an extreme anti-reaction between different ethnic or ideological groups,could be a consequence of the many-particle nature of social systems when the initial strength of the interaction is larger than a critical *** effect of neutral opinion holders is critically examined using the spin-one Ising *** critical size of the population of neutral opinion holders,that can prevent crowd polarization,depends on the block spin rule.

The mixed spinel ferrite system Mg0.95Mn0.05Fe2-2xTizxO4 （0 ≤x ≤ 0.7） was synthesized by the conventional solid-state reaction technique. The effect of Ti^4＋ doping was studied by using the Moessbauer spectroscopy measurements at room temperature. From the analysis of the Moessbauer spectra, it is observed that s-electron density, electric field gradient （EFG）, quadrupole coupling constant （QCC） and the net hyperfine magnetic fields acting on the Moessbauer nuclei-FeA^3＋ and FeB^3＋ change with the increase of Ti^4＋ doping in Mg0.95Mn0.05Fe2O4. The hyperfine magnetic field decreases with the increase of Ti^4＋ doping.

The effect of non-magnetic Al^3＋ ion doping on the magnetic properties of MnFe2-2x Al2xO4 （0 ≤x≤ 0.4） spinel ferrites was studied using Moessbauer spectroscopy measurements at room temperature. From the Moessbauer study, it is observed that the ：esolved hyperfine sextets are due to the distribution of Fe ions on the two sublattices of the spinel ferrites. The value of the isomer shift obtained from the fitting of the Moessbauer spectra indicates that Fe ions are in ＋3 state. A paramagnetic doublet is observed at ：iegree of inversion x=0.4, superimposed on the hyperfine sextets, indicating that the super-exchange interaction A-B decreases due to ：he dilution of sublattice by Al^3＋ ions. The hyperfine magnetic field decreases at both interstitial sites of tetrahedral （A） and 3ctahedral （B） with the increase in Al concentration.
