Phenotypic, Cytological and Molecular (AFLP) Analyses of the Cotton Synthetic Allohexaploid Hybrid (G. hirsutum×G. longicalyx)²

The wild cotton diploid species (2n = 2x = 26) are important sources of useful traits such as high fiber quality, resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses etc., which can be introgressed into the cultivated tetraploid cotton Gossypium hirsutum L (2n = 4x = 52), for its genetic improvement. The African wild diploid species G. longicalyx Hutchinson and Lee could be used as donor of the desirable traits of fiber fineness and resistance to reniform nematode. However, hybridization of wild diploid species and cultivated tetraploid cotton encounters a sterility problem of the triploid (2n = 3x = 59), mainly due to ploidy. The restoration of the fertility can be done by creating an allohexaploid (2n = 6x = 78) through the doubling with colchicine of the sterile triploid chromosomes. With this method, a synthetic allohexaploid hybrid (G. hirsutum × G. longicalyx)2 has been obtained. This genotype was studied using phenotypic, cytological and molecular (AFLP) analyses in order to confirm its hybridity and its caryotype, and also to verify the expression of the desirable traits coming from G. longicalyx. The studied genotype showed a quite good level of pollen fertility (83%), and apart from larger seeds and some minor seedling anomalies, most of its morphological characteristics were intermediate between the two parental species. It had 78 chromosomes, proving its hexaploid status. Molecular analysis revealed 136 AFLP loci in this hexaploid, all from G. hirsutum and G. longicalyx, demonstrating its hybrid status. In addition, the hexaploid exhibited the useful traits of G. longicalyx with regard to its remarkable fiber fineness and its high resistance to the reniform nematode. This allohexaploid hybrid constitutes an interesting agronomic material, which can be used as a bridge for the transfer of useful agronomic traits from wild species to varieties of G. hirsutum.

The aim of this work is to analyze the influence of the interfacial MoSeb>2b> layer on the performance of a /n-ZnO/i-ZnO/n-Zn(O,S)/p-CIGS/p+-MoSeb>2b>/Mo/SLGn> solar cell. In this investigation, the numerical simulation software AFORS-HET is used to calculate the electrical characteristics of the cell with and without this MoSe2 layer. Different reported experimental works have highlighted the presence of a thin-film MoSe2 layer at the CIGS/Mo contact interface. Under a tunneling effect, this MoSe2 layer transforms the Schottky CIGS/Mo contact nature into a quasi-ohmic one. Owing to a heavily p-doping, the MoSe2 thin layer allows better transport of majority carrier, tunneling them from CIGS to Mo. Moreover, the bandgap of MoSe2 is wider than that of the CIGS absorbing layer, such that an electric field is generated close to the back surface. Structure Activity-Relationships (SARs) of the five possible isomers of RuClb>2b>(Azpy)b>2b> were predicted thanks to DFT method. Azpy stands for 2-phenylazopyridine and the structure of the isomers α-RuClb>2b>(Azpy)b>2b>, β-RuClb>2b>(Azpy)b>2b>, γ-RuCl2(Azpy)2, δ-RuClb>2b>(Azpy)b>2b> and ε-RuClb>2b>(Azpy)b>2b> call respectively α-Cl, β-Cl, γ-Cl, δ-Cl and ε-Cl are defined according to chlorine atoms orientations. Hence, they are divided into two groups. In the first group comprising α-Cl, β-Cl and ε-Cl, both chlorine atoms are in cis position and Azpy ligands are intervertical. Whereas the two others isomers (γ-Cl and δ-Cl), they form the second group. Here, both chlorine are in trans position and Azpy are planar. The five synthesized isomers were investigated as potential antitumor agents. Then, regarding the DnA, its bases are stacked by pair. Therefore, complexes are assumed to insert and to stack on them through intercalative mode. So the electronic and geometric structures become more important to describe their SARs. Consequently, group 2 regarding γ-Cl and δ-Cl presents the best structure to allow intercalation between DnA base-pairs. besides, the energy order of the lower unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of the isomers is ELUMO(β-Cl) > ELUMO(α-Cl) > ELUMO(ε-Cl) > ELUMO(γ-Cl) > ELUMO(δ-Cl). The energy gap between LUMO and HOMO was also sorted as Δ(L-H)(β-Cl) > Δ(L-H)(α-Cl) > Δ(L-H)(ε-Cl) > Δ(L-H)(γ-Cl) > Δ(L-H)(δ-Cl). In addition, the total dipole moment was classified as μ(ε-Cl) > μ(β-Cl) > μ(α-Cl) > μ(γ-Cl) > μ(δ-Cl). Finally, net charge of the ligand Azpy was also classified as QL(δ-Cl) > QL(γ-Cl) > QL(ε-Cl) > QL(α-Cl) > QL(β-Cl). All those parameters show that δ-Cl isomer displays the highest activity as antitumor drug when intercalating between the DnA basepairs Cytosine-Guanine/Cytosine-Guanine (CG/CG).

The research aims to help reduce the enormous post-harvest losses of rice or bananas in Cote d’Ivoire. It focuses on the breakdown mechanism of their starch. This process contributes to their decay. This study wants to elucidate it;to do this, it analyzes the tetra or penta saccharide reactions with the water or dioxide carbon. It calculates the geometric, energetic and spectroscopic parameters at the OnIOM level (b3LYP/6-311++G [d, p]: AM1). These quantities allow establishing that oxygen represents the privileged hydrogen bond (Hb) site for amylose with four or five D-glucose building blocks. They suggest and are respectively those of amylopectin when the latter consists of four and five D-glucose synthons. They prove that amylose deteriorates before it;the degradation of starch begins with its alteration into disaccharides. It continues with that of amylopectin into tri or tetra-saccharides with four or five building blocks.

Influence of the Year and Growing Area on Maize (Zea mays L.) Production in the Central and north-Central Zones of Côte d’Ivoire (Departments of bouake and Katiola)

Several studies conducted in recent years in Côte d’Ivoire reveal that agriculture is increasingly affected by the adverse effects of climate variability. The present study aims at evaluating the effect of the zone and the year of cultivation on the productivity of maize in the Central and north-Central zones of Cote d’Ivoire. It was carried out for two years (2020 and 2021). The experimental design used was a completely randomized block design with three replications. Observations were made on 12 agronomic parameters (plant size, internode size, collar diameter, number of leaves, number of internodes, cob insertion level, cob length, cob diameter, total kernels, cob dry weight, kernel dry weight, yield). The results showed that all agronomic traits of maize were significantly influenced by locality, except for the number of leaves. The highest values of the traits were observed in the locality of bouaké. However, the year of cultivation did not influence the agronomic parameters of maize. This study will help to avoid yield decreases due to rainfall disturbances as a consequence of climate change.

The heterogenized δ-RuClb>2b>(nazpy)b>2b> deposited on carbon toray (CT) was studied for the first time as electrochemical catalyst. before, it was characterized by visible-ultraviolet spectra and theoretically by TDDFT method at b3LYP/Lanl2DZ level. It displayed an MLCT tb>2gb>eb>gb> → π* transition where tb>2gb>eb>gb> due to the structure of nazpy that considerably reduces energy between d AOs of Ru represents the HOMO of the complex and π* is identified as the LUMO. Electrochemistry study shows two redox ranges in both negative and positive sides of the potential. The positive side that corresponds to the couple RuIV/RuIII of catalyst appears to be active for oxidation of D-glucose in carbonate buffer with a high turnover. Therefore, Keto-2-gluconic and gluconic acids were the two main products obtained with respectively 80% and 17.6% of selectivity. Moreover, a small amount of tartaric and glycol acids coming from the c-c bond cleavage due to non-protection of the anomeric carbon of D-glucose were also observed.

nbO Population Analysis and Electronic Calculation of Four Azopyridine Ruthenium Complexes by DFT Method

The molecular structure, the natural bond orbital (nbO) and the Time Dependent-DFT of both isomers cis or γ-Cl and trans or δ-Cl of RuCl2(L)2, where L stands respectively for 2-phenylazopyridine (Azpy), 2,4-dimethyl-6-[phenylazo]pyridine (Dazpy), 2-[(3,5-dimethylphenyl)azopyridine] (Mazpy) and 2-pyridylazonaphtol (nazpy) were calculated with DFT method at b3LYP/LAnL2DZ level. The prediction of the frontier orbitals (Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital or HOMO and Lowest Unoccupied Molecular Orbital or LUMO) shows that the most active complexes suitable for electronic reactions are admitted to be the trans isomers. Moreover, δ-RuCl2 (Azpy)2 is discovered to react more actively as photo-sensitizer since its energy gap is the minimum. besides, electronic structures of all complexes through nbO calculation indicate that Ru-n bonds are made of delocalization of occupancies from lone pair orbital of n atoms to the ruthenium. Moreover, Ru was assumed to have almost the same charge regardless the structure of the azopyridine ligands in the complex indicating that the ligands provide only a steric effect that is responsible for the ruthenium’s selectivity. Concerning the transition state, nbO analysis also highlights that the transition LP(Ru) π*(n1-n2) does correspond to t2g?π*(L). This transition is assumed to correspond to Metal to Ligand Charge Transfer (MLCT) that is responsible for the photo-sensitiveness of the metallic complex. besides, TDDFT calculation of complexes showed that δ-RuCl2(nazpy)2 displays the largest band during the absorption. For that reason, it is admitted to be the best photosensitizer due to a large system of conjugation provided by nazpy ligand.

Impacts of Field Harvesting and Conservation Practices on the Physical Quality of Yam “Kponan” (Dioscorea cayenensis-rotundata) of Côte D’Ivoire

Yam “Kponan” (Dioscorea cayenensis-rotundata) is a popular staple food in Côte d’Ivoire. However, its rapid decay during conservation prevents regular supply of markets. The objective of this study was therefore to assess the impact of field cultivation and conservation practices on some physical quality parameters of “Kponan”. To this end, “Kponan” yam from three production areas (bondoukou, bouna, Kouassi-Kouassikro) was cultivated in each area. At maturity, physical parameters of yams at harvest and after 3 months of storage in field were analyzed. The results showed that injury was the most significant deterioration in yam harvest. The rate of injured yams was highest for hoe-harvested in Kouassi-Kouassikro area (16.67% - 22.22%) regardless of the origin of the cuttings. The main damage observed after the 3 months of storage was rots (22.86% - 60.00%) and weight loss (8.57% - 42.86%). However, yams stored in pits in bouna zone had less damage (40% - 48.87%) than those stored under straw huts in bondoukou locality (100%) and at shade under a tree in Kouassi-Kouassikro area (100%). In conclusion, the physical quality of “Kponan” in field is most affected by abusive use of herbicides during weeding and clearing, hoe harvesting and storage in the shade under a tree.

Molecular Structure, Electronic Structure, Properties and Analyses of Five Azopyridine Ruthenium Complexes α-Cl, β-Cl, γ-Cl, δ-Cl and ε-Cl of RuCl2(4,6-Dimethyl-Phenylazopyridine)2as Potential Cancer Drugs: DFT and TD-DFT Investigations

Ground state geometries, natural bond orbital (nbO), analysis of frontier molecular orbitals (FMOs), analysis and spectral (RMn and UV-Visible) properties of five azopyridine ruthenium (II) complexes α-Cl, β-Cl, γ-Cl, δ-Cl and ε-Cl of RuCl2(Dazpy)2 have been theoretically studied by the Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory (TD-DFT) methods using two basis sets: Lanl2DZ and a generic basis set in gas or in chloroform solvent. Dazpy stands for 4,6-dimethyl-phenylazopyridine. Optimized geometry shows that, except β-Cl, all the other four isomers α-Cl, γ-Cl, δ-Cl and ε-Cl are C2 symmetrical. Otherwise, a good agreement was found between experimental and the calculated geometry and nMR data. Moreover, Lanl2DZ effective core potential basis set provides good chemical shifts and geometric properties. Furthermore, the prediction of the frontier orbitals (Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital or HOMO and Lowest Unoc-cupied Molecular Orbital or LUMO) shows that the most active isomer suita-ble for electronic reactions is admitted to be δ-Cl. besides, the nbO analysis indicates that the Ru-n is formed by the electron delocalization of lone pair atomic orbital of n2 and npy to Ru. Also, the strongest interactions between LP(n) with LP*(Ru) and LP(Cl) with LP*(Ru) stabilize the molecular struc-ture. In addition, nbO shows that the five d orbitals of Ru in the complex are organized so that there is no order of priority from one complex to another. Therefore, the transition LP(Ru) → π*(n1 = n2) corresponding to Metal to Li-gand Charge Transfer (MLCT) is in reality no more than d → π*. besides, TDDFT prediction in chloroform solvent reveals that all the five isomerics complexes absorb in the visible region as well as efficient photosensitizers. Glycemic Responses of Food Formulations based on White Rice and White bean

The management of diabetes mellitus is based on lifestyle and dietary measures suggesting the consumption of foods with a low glycemic index. The present study was conducted in order to propose food formulas based on white rice and white beans resulting in a lower glycemic response. For this, food formulations based on these foods were first made, in particular the formulation [75% white rice + 25% white beans] and the formulation [50% rice + 50% white beans]. Then, the biochemical composition of white rice, white bean and these two formulations was determined by the usual methods. Finally, their glycemic responses over 120 minutes were studied by the FAO/ WHO 1998 method. The results showed that white rice [100% white rice] had the highest carbohydrate content (54.61%) followed respectively by the formulation [75% white rice + 25% white bean] (45.69%), the white bean [100% white bean] (29.1%) and the formulation [50% white rice + 50% white bean] (26.16%). In terms of glycemic responses, the formulation [50% white rice + 50% white beans] presented the best evolution with a lower peak (6.041 mmol/L) observed at T45b>minb> and a lower postprandial glycemia (4.872 mmol/ L) at T120b>minb>. An increase in the proportion of beans is therefore recommended as it may suggest a beneficial metabolic effect.
