Evaluation of Particle Properties of MgO/TiO₂ Material by Monte Carlo Simulation Method

The simulation by the Monte Carlo method executed by the software PyPEnELOPE proved effective to specify the particle propagation characteristics by calculating the absorption fractions, backscattering and transmission of electrons and secondary photons under the incidence of 0.5 to 20 KeV range of primary electrons. More than 99.9% of the primary electrons were transmitted in the 125 nm thick MgO/TiO2 material at 20 KeV. This occurred because several interactions took place in the transmitted primary irradiation such as characteristic, fluorescence, and bremsstrahlung produced when of the occupation of the KL3, KL2, KM3, and KM2 shell and sub-shell of titanium and magnesium which are the elements with a high atomic number in the material. The transmission particle characteristic of this material is therefore an indicator capable of improving the electrical performance and properties of the sensor.

Mapping and Petro-Structural Study of northern Komborodougou Formations, in Korhogo Gold District: A Substantial Contribution to the Discovery of a Potential Gold Mineralization in Birimian Greenstone Belts

The Gold District of Korhogo, in the northern region of C?te d’Ivoire, holds enormous potential for gold mineralizations, some of which are under exploration phase and others in exploitation phase (example of Tongon Gold Mine). Dormant since 1998, Mapping Services of most of the West African countries hardly provide geological maps at the scales of: 1/200,000, 1/50,000 and 1/25,000. This situation of unavailability of detailed geological maps does not help mining operators in the selection of prolific areas and also in the interpretation of in soil geochem anomies or gold mineralizations. Consequently, during the years 2020 and 2021, we have undertaken a campaign of geological mapping and petro-structural study of the northern sector of Komborodougou, located in the southern extension of Banfora Birimian Belt. This work, which allowed the realization of a geological map at 1/20,000 scale, reveals that: the mapped area includes three (3) major lithological units: 1) a volcano-sedimentary unit made up of metasediments (metaarenites, metasiltites and metaflyschs) and metavolcanites (metabasalts), which are metamorphosed and outcrop in the form of schists;2) a metaplutonic and intrusive unit composed on the one hand of quartz-diorites and metagabbros, and on the other hand of granites and granodiorites;3) and finally, a unit of dikes formed by microgranites, microgabbros, aplites and quartzites. The volcano-sedimentary complex is affected by a regional fold with an axis subparallel to the regional tectonic grain and an S1 schistosity oriented nE-SW to nnE-SSW with steep dips (>60o), except for those of the metaflyschs which are weak (o);a regional nW-SE compression would be at the origin of the setting of this schistosity. The volcano-sediment and metaplutonite complex is crossed in a nnE-SSW direction by a senetral shear-zone or main shear-zone and secondary shear-zones oriented sometimes nE-SW or n-S. Hypotensive Effects of an Aqueous Extract of Bambusa vulgaris (Poaceae) Leaves in Rabbit Oryctolagus cuniculus

Plant of Bambusa vulgaris is used in traditional medicine practice for the management of many pathologies including hypertension. The effect of the aqueous extract of the leaves of Bambusa vulgaris on blood pressure was evaluated in normotensive male rabbits. Blood pressure was measured by the invasive method. Thus, aqueous extract of Bambusa vulgaris leaves had been injected intravenously at doses ranging from 1 mg/kg to 30 mg/kg in rabbits anesthetized with thiopental. The effects of this extract on blood pressure were also evaluated in rabbits having previously received different doses of atropine. The aqueous extract of Bambusa vulgaris leaves induced a dose-dependent hypotension which is not canceled in the presence of atropine. The results obtained show that the extract has blood pressure lowering effect which may be mediated by muscarinic-type cholinergic receptors.

Anesthesiological Management of Eclampsia in Tropical Africa: Experience of the University Hospital Center of Bouake

Introduction: Eclampsia is a common cause of maternal mortality in developing countries. The objective of this study is to evaluate the practice of anesthesia for eclampsia in tropical Africa. Patients and Methods: Retrospective descriptive study on the parturients who benefited from eclampsia anesthesia in the operating theaters of the gynecology and obstetrics department, the University Hospital Center (CHU) of Bouake over a two-year period (January 2015 to December 2016). The parameters studied were: anesthetic risk assessment, anesthetic management, immediate anesthetic and post-anesthetic accidents and incidents. Results: Out of a total of 3831 emergency cesarean sections, 65 were for eclampsia, or 1.69% of obstetrical surgical activity. The mean age of the patients was 20.30 ± 3.34 years (range: 14 years and 39 years). Prenatal consultation was not performed in 70% of cases and 85% of patients were primiparous. Patients classified as ASA IIIU accounted for 75% of the population and in 62% of cases, the Glasgow score was between 9 and 12. Induction was achieved with thiopental in 98% of patients and vecuronium was the only muscle relaxant used. The most common fetal complications were hypotrophy (50%), prematurity (30%) and respiratory distress (40%). Postoperative anesthetic complications were agitation (70%) and wake delay (15%). Maternal mortality was 5% and the neonatal death rate was around 7.69%. The elements of poor maternal prognosis were the ASA IVU class (P = 0.015) and the Aldrete awakening score between 3 and 5 awakening (P = 0.001). Conclusion: Anesthesia for eclampsia at CHU of Bouake is difficult. It needs to be improved thanks to better equipment of the health structures.

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are complex multifactorial disorders that include Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). Considering that IBD is a genetic and multifactorial disease, we screened for the distribution dynamism of IBD pathogenic genetic variants (single nucleotide polymorphisms;SnPs) and risk factors in four (4) IBD pediatric patients, by integrating both clinical exome sequencing and computational statistical approaches, aiming to categorize IBD patients in CD and UC phenotype. To this end, we first aligned genomic read sequences of these IBD patients to hg19 human genome by using bowtie 2 package. next, we performed genetic variant calling analysis in terms of single nucleotide polymorphism (SnP) for genes covered by at least 20 read genomic sequences. Finally, we checked for biological and genomic functions of genes exhibiting statistically significant genetic variant (SnPs) by introducing Fitcon genomic parameter. Findings showed Fitcon parameter as normalizing IBD patient’s population variability, as well as inducing a relative good clustering between IBD patients in terms of CD and UC phenotypes. Genomic analysis revealed a random distribution of risk factors and as well pathogenic SnPs genetic variants in the four IBD patient’s genome, claiming to be involved in: i) Metabolic disorders, ii) Autoimmune deficiencies;iii) Crohn’s disease pathways. Integration of genomic and computational statistical analysis supported a relative genetic variability regarding IBD patient population by processing IBD pathogenic SnP genetic variants as opposite to IBD risk factor variants. Interestingly, findings clearly allowed categorizing IBD patients in CD and UC phenotypes by applying Fitcon parameter in selecting IBD pathogenic genetic variants. Influence of Active Charcoal and Plant Position on Some Morphological Parameters of a Local Variety of Okra (<i>Abelmoschus caillei</i>)

Okra is a plant rich in nutrients and is very well consumed in Côte d’Ivoire. Despite its many benefits, the production of this vegetable is still weak in our country. The reasons for this include the inadequate selection of varieties, the high cost of inputs and the poverty of the soil for its cultivation. One of the alternatives for sustained production is to solve the problem of soil fertility. In the case of our work, the aim is to improve the yield of okra. To achieve this goal, experiments were undertaken to evaluate the impact of activated charcoal on morphological parameters of a local okra variety. For this purpose, the charcoal used was activated in three different times (activation time equal to 0 days, 15 days and 30 days). The experimental device used is a split-plot with three repetitions, each comprising 12 elementary plots. The various charcoals were buried the same day. Then, the seedling was done with two positions including outside position and inside position. Observations were made on 360 plants. An analysis of the variances was carried out on the morphological parameters. Fruit mass is the variable most influenced by activated charcoal. Thus, the greatest value of the mass was obtained with the charcoal CA0, with outside position.

The Oryzenin’s Effect on Di, Tri and Quadri-Saccharide Degradation. An Investigation by a Mixed Method: OnIOM (DFT/B3LYP/6 - 31 + G(d, p): AM1)

The paddy rice degradation remains a concern for research;the chemical phenomena underlying this process persists unknown. This research aims to identify the mechanism of starch degradation. It determines the nature of the reactions between two, three and four synthons of amylose with oryzenin using theoretical methods. The OnIOM (DFT/B3LYP/6 - 31 + G(d, p): AM1) level of theory is performed on four monomers and eight complexes. Frequencies make it possible to obtain energy and spectroscopic quantities. Calculations after geometry optimization. Following this, a “single point” allows exploiting the “natural Bond Orbital (nBO)” analysis. The first three parameters suggest that the main interactions between oryzenin and amylose arise through O29-H30…O46 hydrogen bonds (HB). Furthermore, this result posits that the length of the amylose doesn’t influence this reaction. The nBO analysis shows that this component of starch degrades first at the end of the chain to produce monosaccharides;it can also alter in the middle of the chain to give disaccharides.

Tectonic Evolution of Paleoproterozoic Formations in the north-East of Côte d’Ivoire (Bondoukou-Tanda, West African Craton)

The objective of this work is to contribute to the crustal evolution during the Paleoproterozoic in the northeast of Côte d’Ivoire through the structural study of the Bondoukou-tanda locality. To do this, we proceeded by a macroscopic observation of the outcrops for the identification of the structures (schistosity, fold, shear, and lineation). The structures indicated the direction of the main constraints and the relative correlations between the lithologies. The structural measurements, in particular the direction and the dip obtained, were all processed by the GEOrient software to draw up the stereographic projections for a static interpretation of the measurements. Given the rarity of rock outcrops in the study area, the teleanalytical data were of considerable support in the structural analysis. The various treatments carried out on the EnVI 5.2 software made it possible to identify a total of 471 lineaments. They cover the entire area and are of variable lengths (1.24 to 9.73 km). The different directions highlighted from this methodology are a main direction: nnW-SSE to nW-SE;a secondary direction: nnE-SSW to nE-SW;a tertiary direction: EnE-WSW to E-W. Associated with the lithology map, the teleanalytical map shows that the lineaments are unevenly distributed throughout the study area. The lineaments appear more compact in the volcano-sedimentary and sandstone-conglomeratic units than in the granitoid intrusives. However, the Bondoukou granodiorite appears to be the least fractured lithology.

Monitoring Forest Recovery in Protected Forests of northern Côte d’Ivoire Using Landsat Imagery and Intensity Change Analysis

In this paper, the initiatives of reforestation of the national forests of the north of the Côte d’Ivoire were examined using geomatics and the analysis of change of intensity by taking the case of the protected Forest of Badénou (PFB). A spatial analysis based on multi-spectral and multi-temporal Landsat imagery was carried out to assess land cover changes in the (PFB) over the past two decades and determine whether patterns of change in terms of the intensity of gains/losses of each of the land cover classes were active or dormant between the period before (2000-2013) and after (2013-2019) the reforestation initiative. Five main classes were identified: forest (dry deciduous and gallery forests), tree savannah, shrub/grassy savannah (including agricultural lands), bare lands (bare soils and degraded land areas), and water course. All classes were satisfactorily classified, with an excellent producer’s and user’s and overall accuracies and very good Kappa coefficients. The results showed that between 2000 and 2019, the forest cover in the PFB increased from 7778 ha to 5054 ha, a decrease was marked between 2000 and 2013 of approximately 60% compared to its size in 2000, while a slight increase between 2013 and 2019 (4645 ha to 5054 ha) i.e. around 9%) certainly due to the reforestation since 2016. As for the annual intensities of change for each class in both study periods, changes (gain or loss) in forest and tree savanna were relatively dormant after reforestation, while annual bare land gain was relatively active and marked, indicating that degradation of forests remains a threat to the sustainability of the PFB. Forest degradation has occurred mainly in the eastern parts of the PFB, while the central parts have regained more tree cover. These results can help identify conservation and restoration priorities and improve the overall management of the PFB.

Petro-Geochemistry Contraints of Côte d’Ivoire north-East Plutonites: Implications for Eoeburnean Magmatism of Baoulé-Mossi Domain (Southern of West African Craton)

Plutonites are part of the set of crystallines compose the Precambrian basement. Their study is capital because it allows participating in the debates on the geodynamic evolution of the West African craton. This study concerns granitoids and dioritoids of the north-East of Côte d’Ivoire located in the Man-Leo ridge structured by Eoeburnean magmatism. The petrographic and geochemistry constraints make it possible to say that these rock formations have evolved by the process of fractional crystallization. They have a hybrid origin (mantle and crust), metaluminous to peraluminous highlighted by geochemistry. Concerning the geotectonic context, these plutonites of the Baoulé-Mossi domain are emplacement in a context of subduction more precisely in a context of volcanic arc.
