In this paper, we argue that linear order plays crucial role in an adequate account of acceptability judgment and further that the linear order effects we observe should be seen in terms of real-time processing, rather than static syntax. To capture the linear-order effects, we formulate a memory-based model that predicts fine-grained degrees of acceptability.

Steroid Sulfatase Inhibitor Reduces Proliferation of ishikawa Endometrial Cancer Cells in Co-Culture Systems

Objectives: Estrogens significantly contribute toward the growth and development of endometrial cancers. Two principal pathways have been implicated in the final steps of estrogen synthesis: the steroid sulfatase (STS) and aromatase pathways. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the possible effects of tumor-stromal interactions on local estrogen biosynthesis in endometrial cancer. We also assessed the biological effects of inhibitors of steroid sulfatase and aromatase in the co-culture system compared with usual monocultures. Methods/Materials: We isolated stromal cells from endometrial cancer patients to examine local biosynthesis of estrogens and tumor-stromal interactions. Next we examined the effects of steroid sulfatase inhibitor and aromatase inhibitor in monoculture of endometrial cancer cell line (ishikawa) and in a co-culture system involving an ishikawa cells and stromal cells. Results: Estrogen receptor and steroid sulfatase mRNA levels in cancer cells were significantly higher in the co-cultures compared with the monocultures of endometrial cancer cells. Estradiol and androstenediol concentrations were also significantly higher in the co-cultured cells. Proliferation of the cancer cells was significantly increased through the steroid sulfatase pathway, which metabolizes androgens, estrone sulfate, and estradiol sulfate as its substrates. However, its proliferation was significantly decreased by the treatment of steroid sulfatase or aromatase inhibitors. The significant growth inhibition by the steroid sulfatase and aromatase inhibitors were also observed in the co-culture system. Conclusions: We evaluated the effects of STS inhibitor and aromatase inhibitors on the proliferation of estrogen-dependent endometrial cancer cells. Considering that intratumoral estrogen metabolism plays an important role, our co-culture systems provide an environment similar to that of the tumor in living patients in terms of metabolism and synthesis of intratumoral estrogens.

The Association between Activity of Daily Living and the Combination of Alzheimer’s Disease and Cataract in Elderly Requiring Nursing Care

Some clinical and epidemiological studies have suggested that Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and cataract, may share common pathogenetic mechanisms, subsequently a positive association between the prevalence of AD and cataract, although other studies found no significant relationship between dementia and visual impairment including cataract in the elderly. Little is known about the association between Activity of Daily Living (ADL) and the combination of AD and cataract. To examine the association between ADL and the combination of AD and cataract, we performed a national survey in nursing care institutions in Japan, examining the decreased ADL in elderly with and without AD and cataract for 453 elderly aged 85.0 ± 8.13 years. The proportion, 43.5% of AD in subjects without cataract was significantly higher than that, 23.5% with cataract. Almost all ADL in AD with cataract was significantly lower than that without cataract, although all ADL in cataract patients receiving surgery in AD was significantly (all p < 0.002) higher than that in cataract patients without surgery in AD, as was confirmed by the multiple regression analysis incorporating into the relevant factors as independent variables. These results showed that ADL scores including cognitive functions decreased by cataract were increased by the surgery in the patients with AD. A significantly negative association between AD and cataract seen in our data, which was inconsistent with the previous result, might lead to the necessities of the clinical diagnosis for slight severity of cataract for patients with AD.

随着20世纪80年代以来“新公共管理”理论的普及,权责发生制会计和成果管理制已成为全球标准。然而,权责发生制会计是否会带来成功,以及哪些驱动因素会带来改革的预期成效,这些都存在争议。鉴于文献中繁杂不一的论点,我们提出了两个研究问题:(1)“公共部门组织通过采用强制性权责发生制会计,是否实现了对管理实践的积极影响?”以及(2)“这些影响的主要驱动因素是什么?”为了回答这些问题,我们通过分析一项调查来研究对管理实践的影响,以确定日本地方政府财务部门人员如何看待管理实践中采用强制性权责发生制会计的收益。研究结果表明,迄今为止,他们还没有看到预期的收益,尽管他们曾期望在内部控制方面有更高的收益。然后,我们从技术理性、社会政治和制度同构的角度,全面了解强制性权责发生制会计对管理实践的影响。逻辑分析表明,在议会中没有多数党但由多个政党构成的地方政府,以及财政上对中央政府依赖较高的地方政府,其财务管理者认为收益更高。此外,我们发现,那些压力形式来自模仿其他地方政府的财务管理者认为收益更低。结果表明,一些技术理性工具、社会政治条件和制度压力改变了公共管理者采用强制性权责发生制会计的感知收益。
