Early embryonic imaging of cardiovascular development in mammalian models requires a methodthat can penetrate through and distinguish the many tissue layers with high spatial and temporalresolution. In this paper we evaluate the capability of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)technique for structural 3D embryonic imaging in mouse embryos at different stages of thedevelopmental process ranging from 7.5 dpc up to 10.5 dpc. Obtained results suggest that thecollected data is suitable for quantitative and qualitative measurements to assess cardiovascularfunction in mouse models, which is likely to expand our knowledge of the complexity of theembryonic heart, and its development into an adult heart.

Nanofluids have great potential for solar energy harvesting due to their suitable optical and thermophysical *** of the promising applications of nanofluids is utilization in solar collectors with the direct absorption of light(DASC).The design of a DASC requires detailed knowledge of the optical properties of nanofluids,which can be significantly affected by the particle size *** paper presents the method to take into account the particle size distribution when calculating nanofluid extinction *** validate the proposed model,the particle size distribution and spectral absorbance were measured for aqueous suspension with multi-walled graphite nanotubes;the minimum size of primary nanoparticles was 49 *** proposed model is compared with experiments demonstrating the concentration averaged and maximum discrepancies of 6.6%and 32.2%against 12.6%and 77.7%for a model assuming a monosized suspension.

The results of experimental studies of carbon materials, which are formed in the plasma of a direct current (DC) arc discharge initiated in open air from the asphaltenes of different origins, extracted from the natural asphaltite and from the oil of the Sredne-Ugutskoye Oilfield, are presented. The influence of the initial asphaltene composition on the composition and properties of the resulting carbon materials is analyzed. The initial asphaltenes and the samples of the carbon materials are characterized by the methods of X-ray diffraction, differential thermal analysis, X-ray fluorescence analysis, IR-Fourier spectroscopy, laser diffraction, transmission and scanning electron microscopy. The changes in the composition and structure of the asphaltenes are determined before and after their plasma treatment and the hypotheses are put forward concerning the chemical processes causing the changes in the molecular structure of the samples. As a result of plasma treatment of asphaltenes (100 A, 30 s), it was shown that graphitization occurs, as well as oxidation, and a decrease in sulfur content. Moreover, nanotubes and nano-onions have been detected using electron microscopy. Petroleum asphaltenes after plasma treatment give a less thermostable carbon material, but with a lower content of heteroatoms, and with a large amount of sulfur in the composition of sulfoxide structural fragments. This method is shown to be a promising technology for processing the petroleum feedstock enriched with heavy asphaltene components for the manufacture of carbon nanomaterials: nanotubes, nano-onions and polyhedral graphite.

Objective: To propose an original method of surgical treatment for the acromial extremity of the clavicle rupture(Rockwood II-VI) with modeled Kirschner wire and cortical screw. Methods: Anatomical study and a test method were applied to 43 cadavers of both sexes. During the period between 2000 and 2013, 34 patients of both sexes were operated upon using the new method. In the comparison group(n = 120), the fixation of the acromial extremity of the clavicle rupture was performed with hamate plate, Lee hook and Kirschner ***: Its application allows, according to the evaluation scale of Constant and Murley(1987), 10% more preservation of the function of the shoulder compared with traditional methods of surgical treatment, and shortens the required hospital treatment and temporary disability ***: It is shown that the proposed author's method combines low invasiveness, minimum dimensions of the construction and low-cost treatment.

One of the major challenges in imaging biological tissues using optical techniques,such as optical coherence tomography(OCT),is the lack of light penetration due to highly turbid structures within the *** clearing techniques enable the biological samples to be more optically homogeneous,allowing for deeper penetration of light into the *** study investigates the effect of optical clearing utilizing various concentrations of glucose solution(10%,30%,and 50%)on porcine skin.A gold-plated mirror was imaged beneath the tissue and percentage clearing was determined by monitoring the change in reflected light intensity from the mirror over *** ratio of percentage clearing per tissue thickness for 10%,30% and 50% glucose was determined to be 4.7±1.6%mm^(−1)(n=6),10.6±2.0%mm^(−1)(n=7)and 21.8±2.2%mm^(−1)(n=5),*** was concluded that while higher glucose concentration has the highest optical clearing effect,a suitable concentration should be chosen for the purpose of clearing,considering the osmotic stress on the tissue sample.

Background: Chemokines are small proteins that activate immune system in normal and pathological conditions. The induction of chemotaxis is a well-established role of chemokines. Moreover chemokines are important mediators of angiogenesis, implantation of fetus, and maturation of immune cells. In human body many types of cells express chemokines and cytokines at level of gene and protein. In blood cells chemokine and chemokine receptors mRNA level is a one of crucial points of chemokine system condition. The aim of the study was to evaluate the relationship between plasma concentration of cyto- kines and chemokines/chemokine receptors mRNA level in blood of healthy volunteers. Results: Gene expression of eotaxin, eotaxin-2, IL-8, MIP-1α, MIP- 1β, RANTES, CCR1, CCR3, CCR5, CXCR1, and CXCR2 was measured in peripheral blood cells, as well as the concentration of IL-1β, IL-1ra, IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-7, IL-8, IL-9, IL-10, IL-12 (p70), IL-13, IL-15, IL-17, eotaxin, FGF-2, G-CSF, GM-CSF, IFN-γ, IP-10, MCP-1, MIP-1α, MIP-1β, PDGF-BB, RANTES, TNF-α, and VEGF was evaluated in the plasma of 19 healthy individuals. We studied rela- tionship between mRNA levels of chemokines/recaptors and cytokine concentration in blood of healthy volunteers. Conclusion: These data are allowed to assess chemokines impact in the cytokine regulation of healthy subjects. These results indicate that chemokines and their receptors is diverse and redundant system of immune reactivity in response to internal and external challenges.

Step-by-step external fixation of unstable pelvis with separate anterior and posterior modules

Objective: To evaluate the treatment outcomes of patients with pelvic ring injury by applying step-by-step external pelvic fixation and circular external fixation ***: A total of 28 patients suffering from disintegrated pelvic ring injury are involved in the study. Fourteen patients(the treatment group) underwent step-by-step external pelvic fixation by applying anterior(anti-shock) and posterior modules. For the rest 14 patients(the experimental group), the osteosynthesis were conducted by means of a circular external fixation device. The long-term outcomes were evaluated in a year after the ***: The residual deformity of 5(4–7) mm was observed in 10 patients(71.4%) from the experimental group. In the treatment group, the residual deformity was evident only in 4(28.6%) cases being 2.5(2–3) mm(P = 0.000 319) on the average. The functional result(according to the Majeed scale) was statistically better in the treatment group(P = 0.000 319). Nine(64.3%) and five(35.7%) patients in treatment group showed excellent and positive results, respectively. The excellent result was demonstrated by 3patients(21.4%) of the experimental group, the positive outcomes were observed in 6 cases(42.9%) and the unsatisfactory one was displayed by 1 patient(7.1%) of the same ***: The modular approach applied is the advantage of the transosseous osteosynthesis allowing for a separate anterior(anti-shock) fixation and final posterior reposition of the pelvic ring preceded by the stabilization of vital functions. The above mentioned method gives an opportunity to increase the amount of techniques applied for the pelvic external fixation in polytrauma cases.
