A WiMAX-ZigBee energy management system for green education has been developed. The system helps to resolve the disgusting environmental problems. This paper explores the concept of energy management and introduces an Energy Management System located at campus areas. Analysis shows that 30% energy can be saved from the total energy consumption which translates to a saving of 72 thousand million kWh of energy annually. Such saving reduces 48 million tons of CO2 emission for the environment.

A Study of Address Shortage in a Tree Based ZigBee Network for Mobile Health Applications

There are increasing demands for mobile health applications. This paper reports the development of a mobile health profile which dedicates to mobile applications. The mobile health profile is developed in association with the ZigBee Health Care profile and the IEEE 11073 standard which is normally applied to non-mobile applications. Since mobile sensors have to be carried by patients, the mobile health profile must facilitate mobility. In this investigation, a ZigBee fixed-mobile network (ZFMN) is defined and developed to supplement the ZigBee Health Care Profile for patient monitoring. The mobility study of ZigBee is performed using a random waypoint OPNET simulation model. In a ZFMN, the critical issue of address shortage is identified and discussed. It is analyzed that the problematic address shortage in a ZFMN may generate a huge amount of orphaned end devices and thus the packet drop percentage may potentially rise to 70%, rendering the network unable to function properly. Without introducing additional governing schemes, it is evaluated that the communication of the entire ZigBee network may paralyze. Further vigorous test are performed (by OPNET) on the communication capability of ZFMN when devices are randomly moving and sending data in 1s. It is vital to point out that under the adverse condition of address shortage, the performance of a ZFMN is still encouraging as long as the packet drop percentage has been kept below 3% before running out of address. The conclusion drawn in this analysis is that the packet drop percentage should be kept below 3% to provide a satisfactory QoS for an effective mobile health application using ZFMN such as patient monitoring. Such finding is also important for other future mobile application design of ZigBee. The address shortage issue is left as an open problem that needs attention for a resolution.

The widely adoption of Electric Vehicle (EV) has been identified as a major challenge for future development of smart grids. The ever increasing electric vehicle charging further increases the energy demand. This paper reports the development of an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) as an effective tool to reshape the load profile of EV charging by adopting appropriate demand side management strategy. This paper presents a total solution for EV charging service platform (EVAMI) based on power line and internet communication. It must be stressed that the development of Third Party Customer Service Platform in this investigation facilitates a single bill to be issued to EV owners. Hence, EV owners understand their energy usage and thus may perform energy saving activity efficiently. Experiment and evaluation of the proposed system show that the throughput achieved is about 5 Mbps at 10 ms end to end delay in Power line Communication. By introducing two dimensional dynamic pricing and charging schedule, the proposed EVAMI successfully reduces 36% peak consumption and increases the “off peak” consumption by 54%. Therefore the EVAMI does not only reduce the peak consumption but also relocates the energy demand effectively.

Interleukin-17(IL-17),a member of the IL-17 cytokine family,plays a crucial role in mediating the immune response against extracellular bacteria and fungi in the *** there is increasing evidence that IL-17 is involved in protective immunity against H1 and H3 influenza virus infections,little is known about the role of IL-17 in the highly pathogenic H5N1 influenza virus *** this study,we show that H5N1-infected IL-17 knockout(ko)mice exhibit markedly increased weight loss,more pronounced lung immunopathology and significantly reduced survival rates as compared with infected wild-type ***,the frequency of B cells in the lung were substantially decreased in IL-17 ko mice after virus infection,which correlated with reduced CXCR5 expression in B cells and decreased CXCL13 production in the lung tissue of IL-17 ko *** with this observation,B cells from IL-17 ko mice exhibited a significant reduction in chemokine-mediated migration in *** together,these findings demonstrate a critical role for IL-17 in mediating the recruitment of B cells to the site of pulmonary influenza virus infection in mice.

A Mobile App to Replace the Goniometer? A Pilot Study Focusing on the Measurement of Knee Range of Movement

Background: The universal goniometer is commonly used to measure knee range of movement in clinical practice. However, research has demonstrated that the universal goniometer lacks reliability failing to meet the standard of clinically acceptable error (5°). Objective: This study tested the concurrent validity and intra-rater reliability of a photographic based “app” developed for feedback in sport, the Hudl Ubersense App, as an alternative instrument for measuring knee range of movement. Methods: Measurements of knee range of movement were made concurrently with the electrogoniometer (the gold standard) and the Hudl Ubersense App across a pre-determined randomised set of 20 functional knee angles between 35° and 130°. This was then repeated. The pre-agreed standard of concurrent validity was that 95% of Hudl Ubersense App measurements would be within 5° of the electrogoniometer and differences were displayed in Bland-Altman plots. Results: Thirty nine (97%) of the forty app readings differed from the corresponding electrogoniometer readings by less than 5°. The mean differences between the electrogoniometer and Hudl Ubersense App measurements over each trial were 1.75° and 0.80° respectively, indicating a high level of concurrent validity. There was less than 1.0° mean difference between the first and second set of results indicating a high level of intra-rater reliability. Conclusions: The results suggest that the Hudl Ubersense App has high levels of concurrent validity (using the electrogoniometer as the gold standard) and intra-rater reliability, scoring better than previous research on the current clinical measuring device, the universal goniometer. The Hudl Ubersense App has clinical advantages over the electrogoniometer, so further research is recommended to determine its inter-rater reliability, acceptability, and appropriate clinical practice procedures.

Background Proper parent-child interaction is crucial for child development, but an assessment tool in Chinese is currently lacking. This study aimed to develop and validate a parent-reported parent-child interaction scale for Chinese preschool children. Methods The Chinese parent-child interaction scale (CPCIS) was designed by an expert panel based on the literature and clinical observations in the Chinese context. The initial CPCIS had 14 parent-child interactive activity items. Psychometric properties of the CPCIS were examined using the Rasch model and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Convergent validity was investigated by the associations between CPCIS and family income, maternal education level, and children's school readiness. Results The study recruited 567 Chinese parent-child pairs from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, who completed the CPCIS. Six out of the 14 items in the initial CPCIS were dropped due to suboptimal fi t values. The refined 8-item CPCIS was shown to be valid and reliable by Rasch models and CFA. The person separation reliability and Cronbach's α of the CPCIS were 0.81 and 0.82, respectively. The CPCIS scores were positively associated with family's socioeconomic status (η2 = 0.05,P < 0.001), maternal education level (η2 = 0.08,P < 0.001), and children's school readiness (η2 = 0.01,P < 0.01). Conclusion CPCIS is an easily administered, valid, and reliable tool for the assessment of parent-child interactions in Chinese families.
