Dynamic Audio-Visual Biometric Fusion for Person Recognition

Biometric recognition refers to the process of recognizing a person’s identity using physiological or behavioral modalities,such as face,voice,fingerprint,gait,*** biometric modalities are mostly used in recognition tasks separately as in unimodal systems,or jointly with two or more as in multimodal ***,multimodal systems can usually enhance the recognition performance over unimodal systems by integrating the biometric data of multiple modalities at different fusion *** this enhancement,in real-life applications some factors degrade multimodal systems’performance,such as occlusion,face poses,and noise in voice *** this paper,we propose two algorithms that effectively apply dynamic fusion at feature level based on the data quality of multimodal *** proposed algorithms attempt to minimize the negative influence of confusing and low-quality features by either exclusion or weight reduction to achieve better recognition *** proposed dynamic fusion was achieved using face and voice biometrics,where face features were extracted using principal component analysis(PCA),and Gabor filters separately,whilst voice features were extracted using Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients(MFCCs).Here,the facial data quality assessment of face images is mainly based on the existence of occlusion,whereas the assessment of voice data quality is substantially based on the calculation of signal to noise ratio(SNR)as per the existence of *** evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithms,several experiments were conducted using two combinations of three different databases,AR database,and the extended Yale Face Database B for face images,in addition to VOiCES database for voice *** obtained results show that both proposed dynamic fusion algorithms attain improved performance and offer more advantages in identification and verification over not only the standard unimodal algorithms but also the multimodal algorithms using stan

The effects of the rotor-stator interaction on unsteady pressure pulsation and radial force in a centrifugal pump

An unsteady numerical analysis has been conducted to study the strong interaction between impeller blade and volute tongue of a centrifugal pump. The 3-D-URANS equations were solved with the shear stress transport turbulence model for a wide range of flow rates. These unsteady interactions are mostly related to the unsteady radial force due to an imbalance in the pressure field at the impeller periphery. This force represents dynamic load that are one of the most important sources of vibration and hydraulic noise. Based on this phenomenon, this work analyzes and gives a more realistic prediction of the pressure fluctuation and the radial force during steady and unsteady calculation by considering the effect of the change in the pump operating point. Actually, the pressure fluctuations in the impeller and the volute were recorded by mounting nine monitoring points on the impeller and volute casing. The results of the existing analysis has proven that the pressure fluctuation is periodic due to the relative position of impeller blade to volute tongue. The characteristics of the time domain and frequency domain of the pressure pulsation were analyzed under different coupling conditions. Fast Fourier transform was performed to obtain the spectra of pressure pulsation. Besides, the steady and unsteady forces were calculated around the impeller periphery to fully characterize the pump behavior. The obtained pump performance curves were numerically compared with the experimental ones, and the outcome have shown an acceptable agreement between both curves.

Prevalence of intestinal parasitic infections in Jenin Governorate,Palestine:a 10-year retrospective study

Objective:To assess the prevalence of intestinal parasites among Jenin Govemorate(Northern Palestine) ***:A retrospective laboratory analysis of stool specimens was carried out for intestinal parasite examination in Jenin Governmental Hospital,Jenin Govemorate,Northern *** records were collected from the clinical microbiology laboratory of the Jenin Governmental Hospital between January 2000 and December 2009. Results:Our retrospective study showed that the prevalence of intestinal parasite infection during 10 years ranged from 32.0-41.5%.There are at least 7 different parasites *** most common pathogenic parasites identified were:Entamoeba histolytica(8.2-18.2%),Enterobius vermicularis(15.6-28.9%).The other parasites present were Giardia lamblia,Ascaris lumbricoides, Strongyloides stercoralis,Taenia species and Ancylostoma duodenale.(Hookworms).Conclusions: Intestinal parasitic infection is an important public health problem in Jenin govemorate, *** is necessary to develop effective prevention and control strategies including health education and environmental sanitation improvement.

Cholecystectomy and the risk of alimentary tract cancers:A systematic review

AIM: To investigate the association between cholecystectomy and gastro-intestinal tract(GIT) ***: We conducted a systematic review according to the PRISMA guidelines. A MEDLINE search was performed with predefined search criteria for English Language articles on the association between cholecystectomy and GIT cancers. Additional articles were retrieved by manual search of references. All relevant articles were accessed in full text. Data onstudy type; cases; controls; country; effect estimate; adjustments for confounders and quality of publication were extracted. The quality of the publications were scored by adherence to the STROBE checklist. The data for each part of the GIT were presented in separate ***: Seventy-five studies and 5 meta-analyses satisfied the predefined criteria for inclusion and were included in this review. There were inconsistent reports and no strong evidence of an association between cholecystectomy and cancers of the oesophagus(Adenocarcinoma), pancreas, small bowel and rightsided colon cancers. In squamous cancer of the oesophagus, cancers of the stomach, liver, bile ducts, small bowel and left sided colon cancers, good quality studies suggested a lack of association with cholecystectomy. Equally, distal colon and rectal cancers were found not to be associated with cholecystectomy. Several mechanisms for carcinogenesis/promotion of carcinogensis have been proposed. These have focused on a role for bile salts in carcinogenesis with several potential mutagenic molecular events and gut metabolic hormones signaling cell proliferation or initiation of ***: This is a comprehensive review of the association between GIT cancers and cholecystectomy. This review found no clear association between cholecystectomy and GIT cancers.

Evaluation of model generalization for growing plants using conditional learning

This paper aims to solve the lack of generalization of existing semantic segmentation models in the crop and weed segmentation *** compare two training mechanisms,classical and adversarial,to understand which scheme works best for a particular encoder-decoder *** use simple U-Net,SegNet,and DeepLabv3+with ResNet-50 backbone as segmentation *** models are trained with cross-entropy loss for classical and PatchGAN loss for adversarial *** adopting the Conditional Generative Adversarial Network(CGAN)hierarchical settings,we penalize different Generators(G)using PatchGAN Discriminator(D)and L1 loss to generate segmentation *** generalization is to exhibit fewer failures and perform comparably for growing plants with different data *** utilize the images from four different stages of sugar *** divide the data so that the full-grown stage is used for training,whereas earlier stages are entirely dedicated to testing the *** conclude that U-Net trained in adversarial settings is more robust to changes in the *** adversarially trained U-Net reports 10%overall improvement in the results with mIOU scores of 0.34,0.55,0.75,and 0.85 for four different growth stages.

Comparison in effect of different metal ions, pH and reducing agent on the protease activity in human hyper mature and mature cataract

This study was undertaken to isolate and characterize the protease activity of human eye lens sample of mature and hyper mature cataract. Samples were collected just after surgery of the cataract lens and were stored at -20 ℃. The total protein extract was isolated from 5 samples in each case （mature and hyper mature cataract） and clear supernatant obtained after centrifugation was used as an enzyme source. The optimum pH for the proteases of mature cataract was 7.5 while the proteases of hyper mature cataract were recorded for maximum activity at pH 5.5 and 7.5. The optimum temperature for both enzyme sources was 50 ℃. Effect of different metal ions such as potassium, lead, silver, zinc and borate was studied. In each case protease activity was increased. Reducing agent e.g. β mercaptoethanol also caused an increase in activity indicating the involvement of sulfhydryl groups. Protease activity was also located on agar plates.

The vast revolution in networking is increasing rapidly along with tech-nology advancements,which requires more effort from all cyberspace profes-sionals to cope with the challenges that come with advanced technology privileges and ***,Cognitive Radio Network is one of the promising approaches that permit a dynamic type of smart network for improving the utili-zation of idle spectrum portions of wireless ***,it is vul-nerable to security threats and attacks and demands security mechanisms to preserve and protect the cognitive radio networks for ensuring a secure commu-nication *** paper presents an effective secure MAC protocol for cognitive radio networks,signiﬁcantly enhancing the security level of the existing DSMCRN and SSMCRN protocols by eliminating the authentication server’s necessity,which can be a single point of failure to compromise the entire network *** proposed protocol has proven to be effective and reliable since it does not rely on a centralized entity for providing the required security for a single pair of cognitive *** protocol also improves the performance in the context of fast switching to data channels leading to higher throughput is achieved compared to the benchmark protocols.

Color image segmentation using mean shift and improved ant clustering

To improve the segmentation quality and efficiency of color image,a novel approach which combines the advantages of the mean shift(MS) segmentation and improved ant clustering method is *** regions which can preserve the discontinuity characteristics of an image are segmented by MS algorithm,and then they are represented by a graph in which every region is represented by a *** order to solve the graph partition problem,an improved ant clustering algorithm,called similarity carrying ant model(SCAM-ant),is proposed,in which a new similarity calculation method is *** SCAM-ant,the maximum number of items that each ant can carry will increase,the clustering time will be effectively reduced,and globally optimized clustering can also be *** the graph is not based on the pixels of original image but on the segmentation result of MS algorithm,the computational complexity is greatly *** show that the proposed method can realize color image segmentation efficiently,and compared with the conventional methods based on the image pixels,it improves the image segmentation quality and the anti-interference ability.

Forecasting multiphase flowing bottom-hole pressure of vertical oil wells using three machine learning techniques

Flowing bottom-hole pressure(FBHP)is a key metric parameter in the evaluation of performances of oil and gas production *** accurate prediction of FBHP is highly required in the petroleum industry for many applications,such the hydrocarbon production optimization,oil lifting cost,and assessment of workover *** and reservoir engineers rely on empirical correlations and mechanistic models exist in open resources to estimate the *** empirical models have been developed based on simulation and laboratory results that involved many assumptions that reduce the model's accuracy when they are applied for the field *** technologies of machine learning(ML)are one discipline of Artificial Intelligence(AI)techniques provide promising tools that help solving human's complex *** study develops machine-learning based models to predict the multiphase FBHP using three machine learning techniques that are Random forest,K-Nearest Neighbors(KNN),and artificial neural network(ANN).Results showed that using an artificial neural network model give error of 2.5%to estimate the FBHP which is less than the random forest and K-nearest neighbor models with error of 3.6%and 4%*** ML models were developed based on a surface production data,which makes the FBHP is predicted using actual field *** accuracy of the proposed models from ML was evaluated by comparing the results with the actual dataset values to ensure the effectiveness of the *** results of this study show the potential of artificial intelligence in predicting the most complex parameter in the multiphase petroleum production process.
