Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge(SM) is a very popular medicinal plant that has been extensively applied for many years to treat various diseases, especially coronary heart diseases and cerebrovascular diseases, either alone or in combination with other Chinese plant-based medicines. Although a large number of studies on SM have been performed, they are scattered across a variety of publications. The present review is an up-to-date summary of the published scientific information about the traditional uses, chemical constituents, pharmacological effects, side effects, and drug interactions with SM, in order to lay the foundation for further investigations and better utilization of SM. SM contains diverse chemical components including diterpenoid quinones, hydrophilic phenolic acids, and essential oils. Many pharmacological studies have been done on SM during the last 30 years, focusing on the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular effects, and the antioxidative, neuroprotective, antifibrotic, anti-inflammatory, and antineoplastic activities. The research results strongly support the notion that SM has beneficial therapeutic properties and has a potential of being an effective adaptogenic remedy.

The development of new materials,having exceptional properties in comparison to existing materials is highly required for bringing advancement in electronic and optoelectronic *** this fact,we investigated structural,electronic,and optical properties of zincblende GaN doped with selected Zn concentrations(6.25%,12.50%,and 18.70%),using the first-principle calculations based on density functional theory with GGA+*** conducted the entire study using the WIEN2K *** this study,we calculated various significant parametric quantities such as cohesive energies,formation energies,bulk moduli,and lattice constants along with the study of optical and electronic properties by substituting Ga atoms with Zn atoms in 1×2×2 *** structural stability is confirmed by studying the phonon dispersion curves which suggest that Zn:GaN material is stable against the 6.25%and 18.70%Zn concentrations while for 12.50%,it shows *** Hubbard values U=0,2,4,6 eV were added to GGA and the electronic properties were improved with the U=6 *** absorption was blue shifted while the refractive index and dielectric constant were increased with increasing the Zn *** properties are enhanced due to the prime contribution of cations(Zn)3ri *** optical and electronic properties are further discussed in detail in the entire study.

Vitex rotundifolia L. is an important plant species used in traditional Chinese medicine. For its efficient use and conservation, genetic diversity and clonal variation of V. rotundifolia populations in China were investigated using inter-simple sequence repeat markers. Fourteen natural populations were included to estimate genetic diversity, and a large population with 135 individuals was used to analyze clonal variation and fine-scale spatial genetic structure. The overall genetic diversity （GD） of V. rotundifolia populations in China was moderate （GD=0.190）, with about 40% within-population variation. Across all populations surveyed, the average within-population diversity was moderate （P = 22.6%; GD = 0.086）. A relatively high genetic differentiation （Gst = 0.587） among populations was detected based on the analysis of molecular variance data. Such characteristics of V. rotundifofia are likely attributed to its sexual/asexual reproduction and limited gene flow. The genotypic diversity （D = 0.992） was greater than the average values of a clonal plant, indicating its significant reproduction through seedlings. Spatial autocorrelation analysis showed a clear within-population structure with gene clusters of approximately 20 m. Genetic diversity patterns of V. rotundifolia in China provide a useful guide for its efficient use and conservation by selecting particular populations displaying greater variation that may contain required medicinal compounds, and by sampling individuals in a population at 〉20 m spatial intervals to avoid collecting individuals with identical or similar genotypes.

The chemical compound- paederosidic acid methyl ester(PAME) which was isolated from the n-butanol fraction of Paederia scandens was evaluated on antinociceptive activity in mice using chemical and thermal models of *** intraperitoneal injection,the PAME at doses of 20,40 and 60 mg/kg produced significant inhibitions on chemical nociception induced by intraperitoneal acetic acid and subplantar formalin or capsaicin injections and on thermal nociception in the tail-flick test and in the hot plate *** significant inhibition of nociception was observed at dose of 60 mg/kg of the *** the pentobarbital sodium -induced sleeping time test and the open-field test,the chemical compound neither significantly enhanced the pentobarbital sodium -induced sleeping time nor impaired the motor performance,indicating that the observed anti-nociception was unlikely due to sedation or motor *** the measurement of core body temperature,the PAME couldn’t also affect the temperature of core body within 2 ***,the PAME-induced anti-nociception in hot-plate test was insensitive to naloxone or nimodipine but was significantly antagonized by L-NAME, methylene blue,*** results suggested that the PAME produced anti-nociception possibly related to the pathway-NO-cGMP-K-ATP channels,which merited further studies regarding the precise site and mechanism of action.

Although there are normal cognitive changes that take place as a person becomes older,ageing in humans is generally associated with a deterioration of cognitive performance,in particular of learning and *** are a number of herbal medicines that are reported to improve brain function and *** the present study,the ameliorating effects of an essential oil extracted from Acori graminei rhizoma on learning and memory in aged,dysmnesia rats and mice were determined using the step-down passive avoidance test and Y *** administration of the essential oil(0.02,0.04 and 0.08 g kg) to rats for 30 days and to mice for 15 days improved the latency and number of errors in aged,dysmnesia rats and *** cerebral neurotransmitters in aged rats given the essential oil(0.02,0.04,0.08 g kg) for 30 days were also investigated,and increased levels of norepinephrine,dopamine and serotonin,and decreased levels of acetylcholinesterase activity were *** results suggest that the essential oil improves cognitive function in aged animals possibly by increasing norepinephrine,dopamine and serotonin relative levels,and by decreasing the activity of acetylcholinesterase in the cerebra.

Metasurfaces have drawn considerable attention in manipulation of electromagnetic waves due to their exotic subwavelength footprints. Regardless of immense progress of polarization-dependent flat optics, the realization of on-device switchable complete phase multiplication is still missing from design multifunctional devices. Here,by combining geometric and propagation phases, a generalized design principle is proposed that can achieve switchable integer or fractional multiple complete phase modulation in transmitted circularly cross-polarized light by switching the handedness of incident polarization. As a proof of concept, two types of spin-dependent bifunctional wavefront manipulating devices, including switchable beam splitter/beam deflector and spinto-orbital angular momentum converter designs are numerically realized. It is believed that the proposed single-cell spin-switchable rational-multiple complete-phase-modulation design principle based on combined propagation and geometric phases has great potential to underpin the development of meta-optics-based multifunctional operations in the field of integrated optics, imaging, and optical communication.
