Soft-tissue management and subsequent salvage of the lower extremity following trauma has long presented difficult challenges to the plastic *** to the lower extremity can produce long-term sequelae consisting of psychological trauma,functional deficits,and increased costs to the healthcare *** incorrect management is important,and is compounded by the fact that few guidelines exist on appropriate treatment and patient *** study aims to describe the authors’experience at a large limb salvage center in order to further delineate management strategies.

Achieving superior performance of nanoparticle systems is one of the biggest challenges in *** major phenomena,occurring during the reactions,hinder the development of the full potential of nanoparticle catalysts:sintering and contamination with carbon containing species,sometimes called ***,we demonstrate that Ir nanocrystals,arranged into periodic networks on hexagonal boron nitride(h-BN)supports,can be restored without sintering after contamination by persistent *** restoration yields the complete removal of carbon from the nanocrystals,which keep their crystalline structure,allowing operation without *** findings,together with the possibility of fine tuning the nanocrystals size,confer this nanoparticle system a great potential as a testbed to extract key information about catalysis-mediated oxidation *** the case of the CO oxidation by O2,reaction of interest in environmental science and green energy production,the existence of chemical processes not observed before in other nanoparticle systems is demonstrated.

In optical microscopy,the slow axial scanning rate of the objective or the sample has traditionally limited the speed of volumetric ***,by conjugating either a movable mirror to the image plane in a remote-focusing geometry or an electrically tuneable lens(ETL)to the back focal plane,rapid axial scanning has been ***,mechanical actuation of a mirror limits the axial scanning rate(usually only 10–100 Hz for piezoelectric or voice coil-based actuators),while ETLs introduce spherical and higher-order aberrations that prevent high-resolution *** an effort to overcome these limitations,we introduce a novel optical design that transforms a lateral-scan motion into a spherical aberration-free axial scan that can be used for high-resolution *** a galvanometric mirror,we scan a laser beam laterally in a remote-focusing arm,which is then back-reflected from different heights of a mirror in the image *** characterize the optical performance of this remote-focusing technique and use it to accelerate axially swept light-sheet microscopy by an order of magnitude,allowing the quantification of rapid vesicular dynamics in three *** also demonstrate resonant remote focusing at 12 kHz with a two-photon raster-scanning microscope,which allows rapid imaging of brain tissues and zebrafish cardiac dynamics with diffraction-limited resolution.

Parallelized fluorescence imaging has been a long-standing pursuit that can address the unmet need for a comprehensive three-dimensional(3D)visualization of dynamical biological processes with minimal ***,the available approaches are limited to incomplete parallelization in only two dimensions or sparse sampling in three *** hereby develop a novel fluorescence imaging approach,called coded light-sheet array microscopy(CLAm),which allows complete parallelized 3D imaging without mechanical *** the concept of an“infinity mirror”,CLAm generates a light-sheet array with controllable sheet density and degree of ***,CLAm circumvents the common complications of multiple coherent light-sheet generation in terms of dedicated wavefront engineering and mechanical dithering/***,the encoding of multiplexed optical sections in CLAm allows the synchronous capture of all sectioned images within the imaged *** demonstrate the utility of CLAm in different imaging scenarios,including a light-scattering medium,an optically cleared tissue,and microparticles in fluidic *** can maximize the signal-to-noise ratio and the spatial duty cycle,and also provides a further reduction in photobleaching compared to the major scanning-based 3D imaging *** flexible implementation of CLAm regarding both hardware and software ensures compatibility with any light-sheet imaging modality and could thus be instrumental in a multitude of areas in biological research.

In recent years,there has been an increased resort to microtunnelling/pipe-jacking as a means of constructing underground conduits(for water,sewage,gas,and other utilities)to avoid on-street disruption in urban *** this paper,technical details of two 1200 mm internal diameter microtunnels in silty sand totalling over 550 m in length are *** average skin friction values are extremely low for both drives suggesting effective lubrication practice,differences in normalised bentonite volumes appear to be responsible for differences in skin *** or near full buoyancy of the pipeline has been demonstrated for the majority of the *** frictional stress increase after a stoppage is shown to depend on not only the stoppage duration but also on the normalised lubrication *** of data in the manner presented in the paper is an important means of assimilating experience of microtunnelling in different ground conditions.

Rapid progress in graphene-based applications is calling for new processing techniques for creating graphene components with different shapes,sizes,and edge *** we report a controlled cutting process for graphene sheets,using nickel nanoparticles as a knife that cuts with nanoscale *** cutting proceeds via catalytic hydrogenation of the graphene lattice,and can generate graphene pieces with specifi c zigzag or armchair *** size of the nanoparticle dictates the edge structure that is produced during the *** cutting occurs along straight lines and along symmetry lines,defined by angles of 60ºor 120º,and is defl ected at free edges or defects,allowing practical control of graphene nano-engineering.
