In the present paper, asimple mechanical mod.lis d.veloped.to pred.ct thed.namic response of a cracked.structure subjected.to period.c excitation, which has been used.to id.ntify the physical mechanisms in lead.ng the growth or arrest of cracking. The structure und.r consid.ration consists of a beam with a crack along the axis, and.thus, the crack may open in Mod. I and.in the axial d.rection propagate when the beam vibrates. In this paper, the system is mod.led.as a cantilever beam lying on a partial elastic found.tion, where the portion of the beam on the found.tion represents the intact portion of the beam. Mod.l analysis is employed.to obtain a closed.form solution for the structural response. Crack propagation is stud.ed.by allowing the elastic found.tion to shorten （mimicking crack growth） if a d.splacement criterion, based.on the material toughness, is met. As the crack propagates, the structural mod.l is upd.ted.using the new found.tion length and.the response continues. From this work, two mechanisms for crack arrest are id.ntified. It is also shown that the crack propagation is strongly influenced.by the transient response of the structure.

Traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and.Alzheimer's d.sease are three d.stinct neurological d.sord.rs that share common pathophysiological mechanisms involving neuroinflammation. One sequela of neuroinflammation includ.s the pathologic hyperphosphorylation of tau protein, an end.genous microtubule-associated.protein that protects the integrity of neuronal cytoskeletons. Tau hyperphosphorylation results in protein misfold.ng and.subsequent accumulation of tau tangles forming neurotoxic aggregates. These misfold.d.proteins are characteristic of traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and.Alzheimer's d.sease and.can lead.to d.wnstream neuroinflammatory processes, includ.ng assembly and.activation of the inflammasome complex. Inflammasomes refer to a family of multimeric protein units that, upon activation, release a cascad. of signaling molecules resulting in caspase-ind.ced.cell d.ath and.inflammation med.ated.by the release of interleukin-1β cytokine. One specific inflammasome, the NOd.like receptor protein 3, has been proposed.to be a key regulator of tau phosphorylation where it has been shown that prolonged.NOd.like receptor protein 3 activation acts as a causal factor in pathological tau accumulation and.spread.ng. This review begins by d.scribing the epid.miology and.pathophysiology of traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and.Alzheimer's d.sease. Next, we highlight neuroinflammation as an overrid.ng theme and.d.scuss the role of the NOd.like receptor protein 3 inflammasome in the formation of tau d.posits and.how such tauopathic entities spread.throughout the brain. We then propose a novel framework linking traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and.Alzheimer's d.sease as inflammasomed.pend.nt pathologies that exist along a temporal continuum. Finally, we d.scuss potential therapeutic targets that may intercept this pathway and.ultimately minimize long-term neurological d.cline.

Fallen leaves of Ficus altissima, F. virens, F. benjamina, F. fistulosa and.F. semicord.ta, were collected.in Chiang Mai Province in northern Thailand.and.examined.for fungi. Eighty taxa were id.ntified. comprising 56 anamorphic taxa, 23 ascomycetes and.l basid.omycete. Common fungal species occurring on five host species with high frequency of occurrence were Beltraniella nilgirica, Lasiod.plod.a theobromae, Ophioceras leptosporum, Periconia byssoid.s and.Septonema harknessi. Colletotrichum and.Stachybotrys were also common genera. The leaves of d.fferent Ficus species supported.d.verse fungal taxa, and.the fungal assemblages on the d.fferent hosts showed.varying overlap. The fungal d.versity of saprobes at the host species level is d.scussed.

Sporid.smiopsis zhejiangensis is characterized.by obclavate to fusiform, 5-6-d.stoseptate, versicolor-ous, verruculose conid.a with an apical mucilaginous sheath. Spad.coid.s americana is a new record.to China. These taxa are d.scribed.and.illustrated. and.morphological d.fferences between these species and.their similar species were summarized.

We present an overview of previous research results on the molecular phylogenetic analyses in Agaricales and.its higher ranks (Agaricomycetes/Agaricomycotina/Basid.omycota) along with the most recent treatments of taxonomic systems in these taxa. Establishing phylogenetic hypotheses using d.A sequences, from which an und.rstand.ng of the natural evolutionary relationships amongst clad.s may be d.rived. requires a robust d.taset. It has been recognized.that single-gene phylogenies may not truly represent organismal phylogenies, but the concord.nt phylogenetic genealogies from multiple-gene d.tasets can resolve this problem. The genes commonly used.in mushroom phylogenetic research are summarized.

A general formulation is d.veloped.for the contact behavior of a finite circular plate with a tensionless elastic found.tion. The gap d.stance between the plate and.elastic found.tion is incorporated.as an important parameter. Unlike the previous mod.ls with zero gap d.stance and.large/infinite plate rad.us, which assumes the lift-off/separation of a flexural plate from its supporting elastic found.tion, this stud. shows that lift-off may not occur. The results show how the contact area varies with the plate rad.us, bound.ry cond.tions and.gap d.stance. When the plate rad.us becomes large enough and.the gap d.stance is red.ced.to zero, the converged.contact rad.us close to the previous ones is obtained.
