Ultrafast laser-scanning time-stretch imaging at visible wavelengths

Optical time-stretch imaging enables the continuous capture of non-repetitive events in real time at a line-scan rate of tens of MHz—a distinct advantage for the ultrafast dynamics monitoring and high-throughput screening that are widely needed in biological ***,its potential is limited by the technical challenge of achieving significant pulse stretching(that is,high temporal dispersion)and low optical loss,which are the critical factors influencing imaging quality,in the visible spectrum demanded in many of these *** present a new pulse-stretching technique,termed free-space angular-chirpenhanced delay(FACED),with three distinguishing features absent in the prevailing dispersive-fiber-based implementations:(1)it generates substantial,reconfigurable temporal dispersion in free space(41 ns nm^(−1))with low intrinsic loss(o6 dB)at visible wavelengths;(2)its wavelength-invariant pulse-stretching operation introduces a new paradigm in time-stretch imaging,which can now be implemented both with and without spectral encoding;and(3)pulse stretching in FACED inherently provides an ultrafast all-optical laser-beam scanning mechanism at a line-scan rate of tens of *** FACED,we demonstrate not only ultrafast laser-scanning time-stretch imaging with superior bright-field image quality compared with previous work but also,for the first time,MHz fluorescence and colorized time-stretch *** results show that this technique could enable a wider scope of applications in high-speed and high-throughput biological microscopy that were once out of reach.

Background Persistent gastro-esophageal reflux （GER） due to various pathological factors often results in overt clinical symptoms and signs, which is termed as gastro-esophageal reflux disease （GERD）. Affected children usually present with failure to thrive, recurrent pneumonia or apnea. Many neurologically impaired children have symptoms related to GERD. Although laparoscopic fundoplication has been established to be an effective treatment modality for children with GERD, data on its role and long-term efficacy for neurologically impaired patients remain sparse. The aim of this study was to review the results of such patients who underwent laparoscopic fundoplication.

background Biliary atresia(BA)is one of the most challenging hepatobiliary diseases in *** the reasonable outcome of liver transplantation(LT),portoenteral anastomosis(Kasai operation)is still the first choice of treatment for patients with *** to improve the survival rate of the patients with BA in the era of LT is a new *** sources Based on recent original publications and the experience with the BA in China,we review many factors that influence BA survival situation,including early diagnosis and screen plan,defects of early treatment,Kasai operation,and LT and indicate present questions about BA diagnosis and treatment in *** BA diagnosis may also be delayed due to insufficient understanding of BA and lack of jaundice monitoring methods at different levels of the hospitals in *** education of the physicians at smaller city hospitals about BA,neonatal jaundice and cholestasis would be helpful in improving early diagnosis of *** surgical intervention is still the only guarantee to improve the survival rate of BA with native *** In the era of LT,especially in China,Kasai operation can provide waiting time for living donor LT and improve the success rate of LT and minimize the rapid deterioration of liver function of the children with BA and decrease the mortality in patients with BA.

Immunotherapy has become integral in cancer therapeutics over the past two decades and is now part of standard-of-care treatment in multiple cancer types. While various biomarkers and pathway alterations such as dMMR, CDK12, and AR-V7 have been identified in advanced prostate cancer to predict immunotherapy responsiveness, the vast majority of prostate cancer remain intrinsically immune-resistant, as evidenced by low response rates to anti-PD(L)1 monotherapy. Since regulatory approval of the vaccine therapy sipuleucel-T in the biomarker-unselected population, there has not been much success with immunotherapy treatment in advanced prostate cancer. Researchers have looked at various strategies to overcome immune resistance, including the identification of more biomarkers and the combination of immunotherapy with existing effective prostate cancer treatments. On the horizon, novel drugs using bispecific T-cell engager (BiTE) and chimeric antigen receptors (CAR) technology are being explored and have shown promising early efficacy in this disease. Here we discuss the features of the tumour microenvironment that predispose to immune resistance and rational strategies to enhance antitumour responsiveness in advanced prostate cancer.

Outcomes of right-lobe and left-lobe living-donor liver transplantations using small-for-size grafts

AIM To analyze the outcomes of living-donor liver transplantation(LDLT) using left-lobe(LL) or right-lobe(RL) small-for-size(SFS) *** Prospectively collected data of adult patients who underwent LDLT at our hospital in the period from January 2003 to December 2013 were reviewed. The patients were divided into the RL-LDLT group and the LL-LDLT group. The two groups were compared in terms of short-and long-term outcomes, including incidence of postoperative complication, graft function, graft survival, and patient survival. A SFS graft was defined as a graft with a ratio of graft weight(GW) to recipient standard liver volume(RSLV)(GW/RSLV) of < 50%. The Urata formula was used to estimate *** Totally 218 patients were included for analysis, with 199 patients in the RL-LDLT group and 19 patients in the LL-LDLT group. The two groups were similar in terms of age(median, 53 years in the RL-LDLT group and 52 years in the LL-LDLT group, P = 0.997) but had significantly different ratios of men to women(165:34 in the RL-LDLT group and 8:11 in the LL-LDLT group, P < 0.0001). The two groups were also significantly different in GW(P < 0.0001), GW/RSLV(P < 0.0001), and graft cold ischemic time(P = 0.007). When it comes to postoperative complication, the groups were comparable(P = 0.105). Five patients died in hospital,4(2%) in the RL-LDLT group and 1(5.3%) in the LLLDLT group(P = 0.918). There were 38 graft losses, 33(16.6%) in the RL-LDLT group and 5(26.3%) in the LL-LDLT group(P = 0.452). The 5-year graft survival rate was significantly better in the RL-LDLT group(95.2% vs 89.5%, P = 0.049). The two groups had similar 5-year patient survival rates(RL-LDLT: 86.8%, LL-LDLT: 89.5%, P = 0.476).CONCLUSION The use of SFS graft in LDLT requires careful tailormade surgical planning and meticulous operation. LLLDLT can be a good alternative to RL-LDLT with similar recipient outcomes but a lower donor risk. Further research into different patient conditions is needed i
