Unusual amine - bond fragmentation on the peptide/protein backbone has been reported using matrix - assisted laser desorption/ionization time - of- flight mass spectrometry (MALDI - TOFMS)The amine - bond cleavage occurred without metastable decay, while the peptide - bond cleavage occurred with metastable decay of peptide ions in a drift region of TOF mass analyzer. It was presumed that the amine - bond cleavage occurred as a non - ergodic process independent of the ionization under MALDI conditions.

This paper proposes a novel method for analyzing a textile fabric structure to extract positional information regarding each yarn using three-dimensional X-ray computed tomography(3D CT) *** relationship among the yarns can be reconstructed using the extracted yarn positional *** this paper,a sequence of points on the center line of each yarn of the sample is defined as the yarn positional information,since the sequence can be regarded as the representative position of the *** sequence is extracted by tracing the *** yarn is traced by estimating the yarn center and direction and correlating the yarn part of the 3D CT image with a 3D yarn model,which is moved along the estimated yarn *** trajectory of the center of the yarn model corresponds to the positional information of the *** application of the proposed method is shown by experimentally applying the proposed method to a 3D CT image of a double-layered woven ***,the experimental results for a plain knitted fabric show that this method can be applied to even knitted fabrics.

Local position and attitude measurement methods are necessary for the navigation of autonomous robots and the other applications. In this paper, a 3D attitude measurement method is proposed. This method uses the spread spectrum modulated ultrasonic wave for the measurement of the pseudo-distance of each pathway between transmitter and receiver elements that are arranged in an array. The relative attitude between transmitter and receiver unit could be calculated from the relationship between these pseudo-distances. The use of spread spectrum modulation enables the high accuracy, noise tolerance, and coexistence of multiple transmitter devices by code division multiple access (CDMA) between transmitter and receiver elements. A pair of transmitter and receiver prototype for proposed method was manufactured, and the fundamental performance was examined in experiments. As a result, accuracy of σ=0.78 mm in the pseudo-distance measurement of each pathway between transmitter and receiver elements was confirmed, and about 0.01 rad resolution in the attitude measurement was also confirmed.

In this study, we propose an algorithm selection method based on coupling strength for the partitioned analysis ofstructure-piezoelectric-circuit coupling, which includes two types of coupling or inverse and direct piezoelectriccoupling and direct piezoelectric and circuit coupling. In the proposed method, implicit and explicit formulationsare used for strong and weak coupling, respectively. Three feasible partitioned algorithms are generated, namely(1) a strongly coupled algorithm that uses a fully implicit formulation for both types of coupling, (2) a weaklycoupled algorithm that uses a fully explicit formulation for both types of coupling, and (3) a partially stronglycoupled and partially weakly coupled algorithm that uses an implicit formulation and an explicit formulation forthe two types of coupling, *** examples using a piezoelectric energy harvester,which is a typicalstructure-piezoelectric-circuit coupling problem, demonstrate that the proposed method selects the most costeffectivealgorithm.

Numerical and experimental investigation on wave dynamic processes induced by high-speed trains entering railway tunnels are presented. Experiments were conducted by using a 1:250 scaled train-tunnel simulator. Numerical simulations were carried out by solving the axisymmetric Euler equations with the dispersion-controlled scheme implemented with moving boundary conditions. Pressure histories at various positions inside the train-tunnel simulator at different distance measured from the entrance of the simulator are recorded both numerically and experimentally, and then compared with each other for two train speeds. After the validation of nonlinear wave phenomena, detailed numerical simulations were then conducted to account for the generation of compression waves near the entrance, the propagation of these waves along the train tunnel, and their gradual development into a weak shock wave. Four wave dynamic processes observed are interpreted by combining numerical results with experiments. They are: high-speed trains moving over a free terrain before entering railway tunnels; the abrupt-entering of high-speed trains into railway tunnels; the abrupt-entering of the tail of high-speed trains into railway tunnels; and the interaction of compression and expansion waves ahead of high-speed trains. The effects of train-tunnel configuration, such as the train length and the train-tunnel blockage ratio, on these wave processes have been investigated as well.

Adhesiolysis for Liver Resection in a Patient with a Reconstructed Stomach Tube after Esophagectomy

To our knowledge this is the first report to provide a detailed description of surgical procedure for adhesiolysis and hepatectomy in patients who have undergone esophagectomy and reconstruction. We performed a hepatic resection of the left medial segment in a patient with a reconstructed stomach tube after esophagectomy for the esophageal carcinoma. The reconstructed stomach tube overlapped with the left medial segment of the liver and the hepatoduodenal ligament and was extensively and strongly adhered to them. It is important for clinicians to know how to perform the detachment procedure successfully in order to secure a surgical field for liver resection without damaging the fragile reconstructed gastric tube. In order to avoid vascular injury of the stomach tube, it was decided that detachment around the hepatoduodenal ligament preceded detachment of the stomach tube from the liver. After complete separation of the hepatoduodenal ligament from the stomach tube, the hepatoduodenal ligament was encircled with tape. Subsequently, adhesiolysis was performed between the stomach tube and the liver. Finally, parenchymal transection was performed using the intermittent hepatic inflow occlusion and crush clamping techniques to dissect the parenchyma. The patient was discharged two weeks after surgery without complication.

Long-Term Survival after Resection for Primary Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma of the Jejunum with Lymph Node Metastases: Case Report

Primary undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS) of the small intestine is extremely rare. The prognosis of UPS is basically poor, and particular, when accompanied with metastatic lesions. This paper reports the case of a long-term survivor of primary UPS of the jejunum with lymph node metastases and a skip lesion in the jejunum. The patient was a 50-year-old Japanese man who presented with a chief complaint of breathlessness. Small bowel X-ray series revealed an approximately 4-cm size with protruded lesion (image shows a filling defect) in the proximal jejunum. Based on a presumptive diagnosis of the hemorrhagic small bowel tumor, he underwent a laparotomy. A tumor was observed in the jejunum at approximately 90-cm from the Treitz ligament;some swollen mesenteric lymph nodules were also observed. Segmental resection of the jejunum was performed 20-140 cm from the Treitz ligament. A complete surgical excision with en-bloc regional lymph node dissection was performed. The final histopathological diagnosis was UPS of the jejunum with metastatic lymph nodes and a skip lesion in the jejunum. The postoperative course was uneventful. The patient was not given adjuvant chemotherapy and was discharged on postoperative day 16. He is currently well without any evidence of recurrence for >10 years after the operation.

Modal Identification of Offshore Platforms Using Statistical Method Based on ERA

Identification of modal parameters of a linear structure with output-only measurements has received much attention over the past decades. In the paper, the Natural Excitation Technique (NExT) is used for acquisition of the impulse signals from the structural responses. Then Eigensystem Realization Algorithm (ERA) is utilized for modal identification. For disregarding the fictitious ‘computational modes', a procedure, Statistically Averaging Modal Frequency Method (SAMFM), is developed to distinguish the true modes from noise modes, and to improve the precision of the identified modal frequencies of the structure. An offshore platform is modeled with the finite element method. The theoretical modal parameters are obtained for a comparison with the identified values. The dynamic responses of the platform under random wave loading are computed for providing the output signals used for identification with ERA. Results of simulation demonstrate that the proposed method can determine the system modal frequency with high precision.
