Background:Erectile dysfunction is a common consequence following radical cystectomy(RC),with inflatable penile prostheses(IPPs)placement considered as the gold standard for refractory *** recurrence post-RC necessitates urethrectomy,which poses challenges for patients with an IPP in *** thinning of the ventral tunica albuginea during urethrectomy may increase the risk of corporal disruption and IPP cylinder aneurysm,affecting device *** case report introduces a novel surgical technique using Tutoplast,a human-derived pericardium allograft,for corporal reinforcement during urethrectomy in the presence of an in-situ ***:A 74-year-old male,with a history of robotic-assisted RC and IPP presented with recurrent bleeding per *** revealed urethral *** patient underwent total urethrectomy which resulted in significant thinning of the ventral tunica *** prevent device aneurysm or mechanical failure,a Tutoplast graft was used intraoperatively to reinforce the thinned *** was followed up six months ***:Final pathology showed urethral high-grade papillary urothelial ***,the patient exhibited smooth recovery,with normal IPP functionality up to the 6-month follow-up *** Tutoplast has been used in other settings,its application in preventing IPP malfunction posturethrectomy is a unique ***:Corporal reinforcement using Tutoplast during urethrectomy in patients with an existing IPP presents a simple and cost-effective solution to mitigate the risks of corporal disruption and IPP cylinder *** positive outcomes demonstrated in this case report warrant further studies on larger patient populations and longer follow-up periods to assess the longterm outcomes of this technique.

Many migratory birds exhibit interannual consistency in migration schedules,routes and stopover *** the interannual consistency in spatiotemporal characteristics helps understand the maintenance of migration and enables the implementation of targeted conservation *** tracked the migration of Whimbrel(Numenius phaeopus)in the East Asian-Australasian Flyway and collected spatiotemporal data from individuals that were tracked for at least two *** non-parametric tests were used to compare the interannual variations in the dates of departure from and arrival at breeding/nonbreeding sites,and the inter-annual variation in the longitudes when the same individual across the same *** exhibited a high degree of consistency in the use of breeding,nonbreeding,and stopover sites between *** variation of arrival dates at nonbreeding sites was significantly larger than that of the departure dates from nonbreeding and breeding *** used stopover sites by the same individuals in multiple years were concentrated in the Yellow Sea coast during northward migration,but were more widespread during southward *** stopover duration at repeatedly used sites was significantly longer than that at sites used only *** flying across the Yellow Sea,Whimbrels breeding in Sakha(Yakutia)exhibited the highest consistency in migration routes in both autumn and ***,the consistency in migration routes of Yakutia breeding birds was generally higher than that of birds breeding in *** results suggest that the northward migration schedule of the Whimbrels is mainly controlled by endogenous factors,while the southward migration schedule is less affected by endogenous *** repeated use of stopover sites in the Yellow Sea coast suggests this region is important for the migration of Whimbrel,and thus has high conservation value.

Zinc metabolism at the cellular level is critical for many biological processes in the body.A key observation is the disruption of cellular homeostasis,often coinciding with disease *** an essential factor in maintaining cellular equilibrium,cellular zinc has been increasingly spotlighted in the context of disease *** research suggests zinc’s involvement in promoting malignancy and invasion in cancer cells,despite its low tissue *** has led to a growing body of literature investigating zinc’s cellular metabolism,particularly the functions of zinc transporters and storage mechanisms during cancer *** transportation is under the control of two major transporter families:SLC30(ZnT)for the excretion of zinc and SLC39(ZIP)for the zinc ***,the storage of this essential element is predominantly mediated by metallothioneins(MTs).This review consolidates knowledge on the critical functions of cellular zinc signaling and underscores potential molecular pathways linking zinc metabolism to disease progression,with a special focus on *** also compile a summary of clinical trials involving zinc *** the main localization of zinc transporters at the cell membrane,the potential for targeted therapies,including small molecules and monoclonal antibodies,offers promising avenues for future exploration.

UV-Based Advanced Oxidation Processes for Antibiotic Resistance Control: Efficiency, Influencing Factors, and Energy Consumption

Antibiotic resistant bacteria(ARB)with antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs)can reduce or eliminate the effectiveness of antibiotics and thus threaten human *** United Nations Environment Programme considers antibiotic resistance the first of six emerging issues of *** oxidation processes(AOPs)that combine ultraviolet(UV)irradiation and chemical oxidation(primarily chlorine,hydrogen peroxide,and persulfate)have attracted increasing interest as advanced water and wastewater treatment *** integrated technologies have been reported to significantly elevate the efficiencies of ARB inactivation and ARG degradation compared with direct UV irradiation or chemical oxidation alone due to the generation of multiple reactive *** this study,the performance and underlying mechanisms of UV/chlorine,UV/hydrogen peroxide,and UV/persulfate processes for controlling ARB and ARGs were reviewed based on recent *** affecting the process-specific efficiency in controlling ARB and ARGs were discussed,including biotic factors,oxidant dose,UV fluence,pH,and water matrix *** addition,the cost-effectiveness of the UV-based AOPs was evaluated using the concept of electrical energy per *** UV/chlorine process exhibited a higher efficiency with lower energy consumption than other UV-based AOPs in the wastewater matrix,indicating its potential for ARB inactivation and ARG degradation in wastewater *** studies are required to address the trade-off between toxic byproduct formation and the energy efficiency of the UV/chlorine process in real wastewater to facilitate its optimization and application in the control of ARB and ARGs.

Monitoring interannual dynamics of desertification in Minqin County,China,using dense Landsat time series

Minqin County in northwestern China is highly affected by *** have been initiated in recent decades to combat desertification in *** assess the effectiveness of these campaigns,this study used a dense Landsat time series from 1987 to 2017 to investigate the interannual dynamics of vegetation coverage and greenness over the past 31 ***,this study applied an advanced technology to reconstruct a high-quality Landsat annual time ***,one image in the vegetation-peak season was selected as the base image in each year,and then problematic pixels were interpolated by the neighborhood similar pixel interpolator using ancillary images in the same ***,the land cover map and the enhanced vegetation index(EVI)were derived from all reconstructed ***,the change of vegetation coverage and EVI values over the 31 years were *** results show that the total vegetation coverage and greenness increased during the 31 *** this change trend to other factors suggests that vegetation in Minqin County is highly affected by agriculture and groundwater supply rather than by *** mitigate desertification in a sustainable way,agriculture should be well managed to avoid overconsumption of natural resources such as underground water.

Long-term survival after intraluminal brachytherapy for inoperable hilar cholangiocarcinoma: A case report

Surgical resection with a tumor-free margin is the onlycurative treatment for hilar cholangiocarcinoma (Klatskin tumor). However, over half of the patients present late with unresectable tumors. Radiotherapy using external beamirradiation or intraluminal brachytherapy (ILBT) has been used to treat unresectable hilar cholangiocarcinoma with satisfactory outcome. We reported a patient with unresectable hilar cholangiocarcinoma surviving more than 6 years after combined external beam irradiation and ILBT.

Magnetic activity of the spotted dwarf AP149 in the α Persei open cluster

The simultaneous photometric and spectroscopic observations of the spotted G dwarf AP149 in the young open cluster α Persei are analyzed here. We reconstruct the observed light curves with a two-starspot model by means of a light curve modeling technique, and find that the active regions shift oppositely along longitude on a time scale of one day. Combining with the observational data obtained by other groups, we discuss the evolution of spotted regions in the photosphere, and find that its starspots evolve not only on a short time scale but also on a long time scale. The pure chromospheric emissions for Ca IIHK and Hβ lines are derived by using the spectral subtraction technique. The variation of Ca IIHK lines＇ excess emission is spatially correlated to the starspot regions. There is no clear rotational modulation for the Hβ line＇s excess emission, probably due to the contamination of prominence emission.

Objective:To report the clinical maternal and fetal outcomes of pregnant women with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),along with any associated pregnancy complications,in Hong Kong,China,and to assess the impact of COVID-19 vaccination on these ***:This prospective registry-based observational study included pregnant women who were recruited through convenient sampling and had a laboratory-confirmed severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection with a cycle threshold(Ct)value result available on admission to eight local hospitals in Hong Kong,*** on clinical symptoms,laboratory results,medical treatments,delivery timing and mode,and pregnancy complications were extracted from the Hospital Authority’s electronic medical record ***,fetal,and pregnancy outcomes were compared between unvaccinated pregnant women with COVID-19 and those who had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine before *** continuous variables and categorical variables were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test and the Pearson’s chi-squared test respectively.A P value less than 0.05 was considered statistically ***:A total of 164 pregnant women were included,of whom 78(47.56%)were ***-19 was diagnosed before 28 weeks’gestation in 30(18.29%),while 134(81.71%)were diagnosed at or after 28 weeks’***-two(37.80%)women received at least one dose of COVID-19 *** were no significant differences between vaccinated and unvaccinated groups in the time interval between COVID-19 diagnosis and delivery,the Ct value,and the gestational age at infection onset or delivery(P>0.05).The majority of women were symptomatic at diagnosis regardless of vaccination status 55(88.71%)in vaccinated group vs.78(76.47%)in unvaccinated group(P=0.052).Symptoms did not significantly differ between groups except for cough(62.90%vs.47.06%,P=0.049).The overall rate of severe COVID-19 in pregnant women was *** t

香港特区非华语学生在使用中文学习其他科目时面临着学科和语言的双重障碍。对非华语学生而言,中文是他们的第二语言或外语,如果中文欠佳,势必影响学科知识的学习。本研究采用“内容与语言整合学习”的4Cs模式,为香港地区的非华语小学三年级学生设计了一套融合常识科内容的中文学习材料和框架,聚焦于小学常识科的六大学习范畴,展开跨学科协作模式,统整学科与中文作为第二语言的学习内容。创新的“中文+常识”课程旨在融合学科教育来提升学生中文水平,同时透过针对性语言教学深化学科知识的掌握。本研究的意义在于,首先让香港非华语中文教学突破单一的语言课堂,平衡“目标语言”和“工具语言”的教学,增强学生通过中文学习常识等其他学科的能力﹔其次,亦希望本课题可以抛砖引玉,为国际中文教育中“中文+其他学科”的教学模式提供香港地区经验。
