Pediatric interfacility transport effects on mortality and length of stay

Background We aimed to evaluate the effects of interfacility pediatric critical care transport response time,physician presence during transport,and mode of transport on mortality and length of stay(LOs)among pediatric *** hypothesized that a shorter response time and helicopter transports,but not physician presence,are associated with lower mortality and a shorter *** Retrospective,single-center,cohort study of 841 patients(s)transported to a quaternary pediatric intensive care unit and cardiovascular intensive care unit between 2014 and 2018 utilizing patient charts and transport *** linear and logistic regression analyses adjusted for age,diagnosis,mode of transport,response time,stabilization time,return duration,mortality risk(pediatric index of mortality-2 and pediatric risk of mortality-3),and inotrope,vasopressor,or mechanical ventilation presence on *** Four hundred and twenty-eight(50.9%)patients were transported by helicopter,and 413(49.1%)were transported by *** accompanied 239(28.4%)*** median response time was 2.0(interquartile range 1.4–2.9)*** physician presence increased the median response time by 0.26 hours(P=0.020),neither physician presence nor response time significantly affected mortality,ICU length of stay(ILOs)or hospital length of stay(HLOs).Helicopter transports were not significantly associated with mortality or ILOs,but were associated with a longer HLOs(3.24 days,95%confidence interval 0.59–5.90)than ambulance transports(P=0.017).Conclusions These results suggest response time and physician presence do not significantly affect mortality or *** may reflect the quality of pre-transport care and medical control *** transports were only associated with a longer *** analysis provides a framework for examining transport workforce needs and associated costs.

The scaptodrosophila genus represents a large group of drosophilids with a worldwide distribution and a predominance of species in Australia,but there is little information on the presence and impacts of Wolbachia endosymbionts in this *** we describe the first Wolbachia infection from this group,wClay isolated from scaptodrosophila claytoni(van Klinken),a species from the east coast of *** infection is polymorphic in natural populations,occurring at a frequency of around 6%–10%.wClay causes male killing,producing female-biased lines;most lines showed 100%male killing,though in 1 line it wass need to be maintained through the introduction of males unless the infection is removed by tetracycline *** is transmitted at a high fidelity(98.6%)through the maternal lineage and has been stable in 2 laboratory lines across 24 generations,suggesting it is likely to persist in *** infection has not been previously described but is closely related to the male-killing Wolbachia recently described from Drosophila pandora based on multilocus sequence typing and the wsp ***-killing Wolbachia are likely to be common in drosophilids but remain difficult to detect because the infections can often be at a low frequency.

Aspects of forest restoration and hydrology:linking passive restoration and soil–water recovery in Brazilian Cerrado

Although the scientific knowledge about some associations between physical parameters of the soil is consolidated,studies focused on investigating the dynamics of forest restoration processes and the structure of soils remain *** study area is located in Cerrado and is called as Private Natural Heritage Reserve(RPPN)Águas Perenes Forest(perennial water forest)and was selected as a“High Conservation Value Forest”,provides scope to investigate the soil physical properties recovery on passive restoration sites,with different ages but with the same land use ***,the aim was to investigate the soil density,moisture,penetration resistance and infiltration rate with long-term from old(FA,46 year-old),medium(FB,11 year-old)and young(FC,8 year-old)passive restoration *** was observed differences in soil density,as well as in soil moisture,resistance to penetration and infiltration *** densities recorded for FA,FB and FC were 1.38,1.48 and 1.53 g cm^(-3),*** recorded higher mean soil moisture(14.9%)than FB(11.5%)and FC(10.0%),whereas mean soil resistance to penetration was increased from FA(0.87 MPa)to FB(0.91 MPa)and FC(1.10 MPa).The average infiltration rate was almost similar in FA and FB(FA=76.43 mm h^(-1);FB=77.48 mm h^(-1))and approximately 39%higher than FC(55.79 mm h^(-1)).Thus,although soil density and moisture were different in each passive restoration site,11 year-old passive restoration site showed similar resistance to penetration and infiltration rate to the old(46 years)passive restoration *** features allowed seeing improvements in hydrological maintenance in the soil and revealed that passive restoration in Cerrado is able to improve the physical features on a soil presenting similar texture,climate and management history.

A high quality transportation system is necessary in a modem economy, and a road network is a common and significant, component of the system. Road systems have two major objectives： to enable the movement of passenger vehicles and the movement of freight vehicles at reasonable speeds. An important part of the transportation system and an expensive investment, a functional road network must meet both objectives to main- tain an efficient economy. In Australia, the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development reported that, in 2011/12, the total road length was approximately 900,000 kin, and the total road expenditure was approximately $19 billion. Good policy requires that infrastructure investments provide a return on investment, thus warranting judicious management to ensure that it is maintained in a cost effective manner. Recent studies in Queensland, Australia, have identified differences between financial and engi- neering professionals in their understanding of infrastructure depreciation, condition deterioration, and future funding needs. Furthermore, the Queensland Asset sustainability Ratio （AsR） requires clearer definitions to ensure that infrastructure remains meaningful to all users. This study proposes a separate sustainability index for road pavements （sIR） unlike the AsR that combines all type of assets. The justification is our ability to assess road condition, the high value of road assets, relative value to other infrastructure, and advanced knowledge of deterioration relative to other infrastructure. The sIR involves community consultation to target an average pavement condition index （PCI）. This study also provides an alternative method to determine the optimal target PCI for a local

Purpose–The aim of this paper is to explore the value preference space associated with the optimization and generalization performance of ***/methodology/approach–In this paper,the authors modified the evaluation function utilized by GEFeWsML such that the weights assigned to each objective(*** reduction and feature reduction)were *** each set of weights,GEFeWsML was used to evolve FMs for the face,periocular,and faceþperiocular *** best performing FMs on the training set(FMtss)and the best performing FMs on the validation set(FM*s)were then applied to the test set in order to evaluate how well they generalized to the unseen ***–By varying the weights assigned to each of the objectives,the authors were able to suggest values that would result in the best optimization and generalization performances for facial,periocular,and faceþperiocular *** using these suggested values outperformed the previously reported GEFeWsML results,using significantly fewer features while achieving the same recognition accuracies ***/value–In this paper,the authors investigate the relative weighting of each objective using a value preference structure and suggest the best weights to be used for each biometric modality tested.

It has long been established that plastic flow in the asthenosphere interacts constantly with the overlying lithosphere and plays a pivotal role in controlling the occurrence of geohazards such as earthquakes and volcanic ***,accurately characterizing the direction and lateral extents of the mantle flow field is notoriously difficult,especially in oceanic areas where deployment of ocean bottom seismometers(OBss) is expensive and thus *** this study,by applying shear wave splitting analyses to a dataset recorded by an OBs array that we deployed between mid-2019 and mid-2020 in the south China sea(sCs),we show that the dominant mantle flow field has a NNW-ssE orientation,which can be attributed to mantle flow extruded from the Tibetan Plateau by the ongoing Indian-Eurasian *** addition,the results suggest that E-W oriented flow fields observed in south China and the Indochina Peninsula do not extend to the central sCs.

This study evaluated uranium sequestration performance in iron-rich (30 g/kg) sediment via bioreduction followed by *** tests (1383 days) at Oak Ridge,Tennessee demonstrated that uranium contents in sediments increased after bioreduced sediments were re-exposed to nitrate and oxygen in contaminated *** of contaminated sediments (1200 mg/kg U) with ethanol in microcosm reduced aqueous U from 0.37 to 0.023 mg/*** of the bioreduced sediment were reoxidized with O2,H2O2,and NaNO3,respectively,over 285 days,resulting in aqueous U of 0.024,1.58 and 14.4 mg/L at pH 6.30,6.63 and 7.62,*** source-and the three reoxidized sediments showed different desorption and adsorption behaviors of U,but all fit a Freundlich *** adsorption capacities increased sharply at pH 4.5 to 5.5,plateaued at pH 5.5 to 7.0,then decreased sharply as pH increased from 7.0 to *** O2-reoxidized sediment retained a lower desorption efficiency at pH over *** NO3--reoxidized sediment exhibited higher adsorption capacity at pH 5.5 to *** pH-dependent adsorption onto Fe(Ⅲ) oxides and formation of U coated particles and precipitates resulted in U sequestration,and bioreduction followed by reoxidation can enhance the U sequestration in sediment.
