Animals rely on olfaction to detect and process invaluable chemical information about their *** olfaction to function,chemicals must first be detected,which leads to the activation of signal-transduction pathways at the peripheral olfactory *** the olfactory system is in direct contact with the environment,the system is constantly vulnerable to damage by contaminants entering the atmosphere or *** may have a variety of effects,including disrupting olfactory signals generated during chemical detection,or altering numerous targets along the signal transduction *** any impairment of chemical detection,animals may be unable to rely on olfaction to make correct decisions about their environment and thus their *** other reviews have focussed on olfactory toxicology in general,here we specifically explore how contaminants may affect the signal-transduction pathways at various points and link those changes to olfactory functionality across vertebrates with a focus on fishes.

both neurons and glia throughout the central nervous system are organized into networks by gap junctions. Among glia, gap junctions facilitate metabolic homeostasis and intercellular communication. Among neurons, gap junctions form electrical synapses that function primarily for communication. However, in neurodegenerative states due to disease or injury gap junctions may be detrimental to survival. Electrical synapses may facilitate hyperactivity and bystander killing among neurons, while gap junction hemichannels in glia may facilitate inflammatory signaling and scar formation. Advances in understanding mechanisms of plasticity of electrical synapses and development of molecular therapeutics to target glial gap junctions and hemichannels offer new hope to pharmacologically limit neuronal degeneration and enhance recovery.

Inadequate delivery of nutrients results in intrauterine growth restriction （IUGR）, which is a leading cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality in livestock. In ruminants, inadequate nutrition during pregnancy is often prevalent due to frequent utilization of exensive forage based grazing systems, making them highly susceptible to changes in nutrient quality and availability. Delivery of nutrients to the fetus is dependent on a number of critical factors including placental growth and development, utero-placental blood flow, nutrient availability, and placenta metabolism and transport capacity. Previous findings from our laboratory and others, highlight essential roles for amino acids and their metabolites in supporting normal fetal growth and development, as well as the critical role for amino acid transporters in nutrient delivery to the fetus. The focus of this review will be on the role of materna nutrition on placental form and function as a regulator of fetal development in ruminants.

AIM To better understand how pediatric floating knee injuries are managed after the wide spread use of new orthopaedic *** We searched EMbASE, COCHRANE and MEDLINE computerized literature databases from the earliest date available in the databases to February 2017 using the following search term including variants and pleural counterparts: Pediatric floating knee. All studies were thoroughly reviewed by multiple authors. Reference lists from all articles were scrutinized to identify any additional studies of interest. A final database of individual patients was assembled from the literature. Univariate and multivariate statistical tests were applied to the assembled database to assess differences in *** The English language literature contains series with a total of 97 pediatric patients who sustained floating knee injuries. Patients averaged 9.3 years of age and were mostly male(73). Approximately 25% of the fractures were open injuries, more tibia(27) than femur(10). Over 75% of the fractures of both the tibia and the femur involved the diaphysis. More than half(52) of the patients were treated non-operatively for both fractures. As a sequela of the injury 32(33%) patients were left with a limb length discrepancy, 24(25%) patients had lengthening of the injured limb at follow up, while 8(8%) had shortening of the affected limb. Infection developed in 9 patients and 3 had premature physeal closure. The positive impacts of managing projects as a portfolio are quantified by comparing the value of the integrated risk of a project portfolio and the aggregation of single project risks implemented separately. Firstly, the integrated risk is defined by proposing risky events based on set theory. Secondly, as projects interact with each other in a project portfolio, the integrated risk is evaluated by using a bayesian network structure learning algorithm to construct an interdependent network of risks. Finally, the integrated risk of a practical case is assessed using this method, and the results show that the proposed method is an effective tool for calculating the extent of risk reduction of implementing a project portfolio and identifying the most risky project, so as to assist companies in making comprehensive decisions in the phase of portfolio selection and portfolio controlling.

Polyoxomolybdate [Mo36O110（NO）4（H2O）14].52H2O was synthesized by a simple one-pot procedure through reducing an acidified mixture of Na2MoO4.2H2O and NH2OH. HCl. In order to create a heterogeneous catalyst system, the polyoxomolybdate was pillared with MgAI-LDH-NO3 by direct ion exchange. These novel materials were carefully analyzed by various chemico-physical methods, The catalytic degradation of methylene blue （Mb） and rhodamine b （Rb） as common dyes in the presence of MgAl-LDH-1 nanoparticles with aqueous hydrogen peroxide, H2O2, as an oxidizing agent was studied in aqueous solution at room temperature. More importantly, the catalyst can be recovered and reused efficiently up to five consecutive cycles with negligible loss of catalytic activity.

We consider a steady-state(but transient)situation in which a warm dense aggregate is a two-temperature system with equilibrium electrons at temperature T_(e),ions at T_(i),and T_(e)≠T_(i).Such states are achievable by pump–probe *** warm dense hydrogen in such a twotemperature situation,we investigate nuclear quantum effects(NQEs)on structure and thermodynamic properties,thereby delineating the limitations of ordinary ab initio molecular *** use path integral molecular dynamics(PIMD)simulations driven by orbital-free density functional theory(OFDFT)calculations with state-of-the-art noninteracting free-energy and exchange-correlation functionals for the explicit temperature *** calibrate the OFDFT calculations against conventional(explicit orbitals)Kohn–Sham *** find that when the ratio of the ionic thermal de broglie wavelength to the mean interionic distance is larger than about 0.30,the ionic radial distribution function is meaningfully affected by the inclusion of ***,NQEs induce a substantial increase in both the ionic and electronic *** confirms the importance of NQEs for highly accurate equation-of-state data on highly driven *** Te>20 kK,increasing Te in the warm dense hydrogen has slight effects on the ionic radial distribution function and equation of state in the range of densities *** addition,we confirm that compared with thermostatted ring-polymer molecular dynamics,the primitive PIMD algorithm overestimates electronic pressures,a consequence of the overly localized ionic description from the primitive scheme.
