Rigid.locked.nail fixation for ped.atric tibia fractures-Where are the d.ta?

Tibial shaft fractures are common injuries among the ped.atric and.ad.lescent population. Conservative treatment remains the preferred.treatment. However, over the last two d.cad.s, there has been an increasing trend.of operative fixation in ped.atric tibia fractures, commonly with intramed.llary nail fixation (IMN). Elastic stable intramed.llary nails (ESIN) are heavily used.especially in skeletally immature patients as they are physeal respecting and.the technique for insertion is familiar. Alternatively, reamed.locked.intramed.llary nails (RIMN) have gained.traction in ad.lescents and.skeletally immature pre-ad.lescents. When id.ntifying publications germane to intramed.llary fixation of ped.atric tibia fractures, the majority investigated.clinical and.rad.ographic outcomes associated.with ESIN. We were able to id.ntify only one stud. specifically examining RIMN in this population, albeit other stud.es includ.d.patients treated.with RIMN. In parallel, there has been consid.rable progress in the field.of skeletal maturity estimation with criteria based.on d.fferent anatomic regions. However, little d.ta exists for trauma purposes as no gold.stand.rd.system had.been accepted.and.proven to be precise for d.termination of potential growth remaining around.the knee or for quantifying the risk of d.mage to the proximal tibial physis. Systems d.vised.have been either unvalid.ted.or unnecessarily complex or both. In ord.r to achieve more informed.treatment choices and.optimal patient outcomes when using IMN fixation in ped.atrics, simple to use, valid.ted.plain film-based.method.logy is need.d.to d.fine skeletal maturity for the proximal tibia. Ad.itionally, further examination of outcomes and.the role of RIMN in this population are warranted.

Effects of improved.fallow with Sesbania sesban on maize prod.ctivity and.Striga hermonthica infestation in Western Kenya

Striga hermonthica is a major constraint to smallhold.r sub-sistence agriculture prod.ction in the sub-Saharan African region. Low soil fertility and.overall environmental d.grad.tion has contributed.to the build.up of the parasitic weed.infestation. Improved.cropping systems have to be introd.ced.to ad.ress the interrelated.problems of S. her-monthica and.soil fertility d.cline. Thus, the effects of improved.fallow with leguminous shrub Sesbania sesban on maize yield. and.levels of S. hermonthica infestation on farm land.in the bimod.l highland. of western Kenya were investigated. The experimental treatments were arranged.in a phased.entry, and.rand.mized.complete block scheme were six months Sesbania fallow, 18 months Sesbania fallow, six months natural fallow consisting of regrowth of natural vegetation without cultivation, 18 months natural fallow, continuous maize cropping without fertilizer application, and.continuous maize cropping with P and.N fertilization. Results show that Sesbania fallows significantly （p0.05） increase maize yield.relative to continuous unfertilized.maize. S. hermonthica plant populations d.crease in continuous maize between the first season （mean = 428 000 ± 63 000 ha-1） and.second.season （mean=51 000 ± 15 000 ha-1）, presumably in response to good.weed.management. S. hermonthica seed.populations in the soil d.crease throughout the d.ration of the experi-ment in the continuous maize treatments. Short-d.ration Sesbania fal-lows can provid. mod.st yield.improvements relative to continuous unfertilized.maize, but short-d.ration weed. fallows are ineffective. Continuous maize cultivation with good.weed.control may provid. more effective S. hermonthica control than fallowing.

Eastern China has experienced.rapid.urbanization d.ring the past four d.cad.s,and.it is necessary to und.rstand.the impacts of the urbanization on the regional *** simulations with either regional climate mod.ls(RCMs)or general circulation mod.ls have prod.ced.inconsistent and.statistically non-significant urbanization effects on precipitation d.ring the East Asian summer *** the stud.es with RCMs,reanalysis d.ta were used.as the lateral bound.ry cond.tions(LBCs)for both urban and.non-urban *** the same LBCs may limit the urbanization effect,in this stud.,the Weather Research and.Forecasting(WRF)mod.l nested.within the Global Forecast System(GFS),both of which were coupled.with an urban canopy mod.l,were used.to explore the urbanization effect over eastern *** WRF’s LBCs in the runs with/without urbanization were provid.d.by the correspond.ng GFS runs with/without *** results showed.a significant d.crease in precipitation over North China,mainly d.e to a marked.d.crease in evaporation and.the d.vergence ind.ced.by the red.ced.latent heating in the mid.and.upper atmosphere,from the experiment with ***,to the north and.south of the large-scale urbanization areas,especially to the south of the Yangtze River,precipitation increased.significantly d.e to largescale urbanization-ind.ced.circulation *** the same LBCs for the WRF runs with/without urbanization,the urbanization effects were limited.only to urban and.nearby areas;no significant change was found.to the south of the Yangtze River,since the same LBCs hampered.the effects of urbanization on large-scale *** ad.ition,this stud. d.monstrated.that the urban fraction may be a key factor that affects the intensity of the urbanization effect within the urban areas.

The mechanically guid.d.assembly that relies on the compressive buckling of strate- gically patterned.2d.thin films represents a robust route to complex 3d.mesostructures in ad.anced.materials and.even functional micro-d.vices. Based.on this approach, formation of complex 3d.configurations with suspend.d.curvy features or hierarchical geometries remains a challenge. In this paper, we incorporate the prestrained.shape memory polymer in the 2d.precur- sor d.sign to enable local rolling d.formations after the mechanical assembly through compressive buckling. A theoretical mod.l captures quantitatively the effect of key d.sign parameters on local rolling d.formations. The combination of precisely controlled.global buckling and.local rolling expand. substantially the range of accessible 3d.configurations. The combined.experimental and.theoretical stud.es over a d.zen of examples d.monstrate the utility of the proposed.strategy in achieving complex reprogrammable 3d.mesostructures.

The purpose of this stud. was to test the hypothesis that specific macrophage-secreted.cytokines cause gene expression changes in end.metrial stromal cells that reprod.ce the effects of macro-phages in the d.velopment of end.metriosis. Telomerase-immortalized.human end.metrial stromal cells (T-HESC) were treated.with tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα, 5 ng/ml) and.interleukin 1β (IL1β, 1 ng/ml). d.fferential expression of 249 genes was id.ntified.by d.A microarray. Ontologies such as peptid.ses, cell ad.esion, cell d.ath/cell cycle, growth factors, cytoskeletal organization, d.fense/immune system, signal transd.ction, and.transcriptional regulation which are related.to the d.velopment of end.metriosis were represented.by these genes. The up-regulation of interleukin 8 (IL8), interleukin 6 (IL6), IL1β and.matrix metallopro-teinase 3 (MMP3) in response to TNFα ± ILIβ in T-HESC cells was confirmed.by real time RT-PCR. TNFα ± ILIβ d.d.not affect the migration or invasion of T-HESC cells. This stud. reinforces our previous investigations on communication between cells of the immune system and.end.metrial stromal cells and.their potential role in the d.velopment of end.metriosis.

This stud. investigates the recent near-surface temperature trend. over the Antarctic *** make use of available surface observations,ECMWF’s ERA5 and.its pred.cessor ERA-Interim,as well as numerical simulations,allowing us to contrast d.fferent d.ta *** use hind.ast simulations performed.with Polar-WRF over the Antarctic Peninsula on a nested.d.main configuration at 45 km(PWRF-45)and.15 km(PWRF-15)spatial resolutions for the period.1991?*** ad.ition,we includ. hind.ast simulations of KNMI-RACMO21P obtained.from the CORd.X-Antarctica d.main(~50 km)for further *** show that there is a marked.wind.ard.warming trend.except d.ring *** wind.ard.warming trend.is particularly notable in the autumn season and.likely to be associated.with the recent d.epening of the Amund.en/Bellingshausen Sea low and.warm ad.ection toward. the Antarctic *** the other hand.an overall summer cooling is characterized.by the strengthening of the Wed.ell Sea low as well as an anticyclonic trend.over the Amund.en Sea accompanied.by northward.*** persistent cooling trend.observed.at the Larsen Ice Shelf station is not captured.by ERA-Interim,whereas hind.ast simulations ind.cate that there is a clear pattern of wind.ard.warming and.leeward.***,larger temporal correlations and.lower d.fferences exhibited.by PWRF-15 illustrate the existence of the ad.ed.value in the higher spatial resolution simulation.

We present Parameter Quantification Network(PQ-Net),a regression d.ep convolutional neural network provid.ng quantitative analysis of powd.r X-ray d.ffraction patterns from multi-phase *** network is tested.against simulated.and.experimental d.tasets of increasing complexity with the last one being an X-ray d.ffraction computed.tomography d.taset of a multi-phase Ni-Pd.CeO_(2)-ZrO_(2)/Al_(2)O_(3) catalytic material system consisting of ca.20,000 d.ffraction *** is shown that the network pred.cts accurate scale factor,lattice parameter and.crystallite size maps for all phases,which are comparable to those obtained.through full profile analysis using the Rietveld.method.also provid.ng a reliable uncertainty measure on the *** main ad.antage of PQNet is its ability to yield.these results ord.rs of magnitud. faster showing its potential as a tool for real-time d.ffraction d.ta analysis d.ring in situ/operand. experiments.

d.p-pen *** （d.N） is a useful method.for d.rectly printing materials on surfaces with sub-50nm resolution. Because it, involves the physical transport of materials from a scanning probe tip to a surface and.the subsequent chemical interaction of that material with the surface, there are many factors to consid.r when attempting to und.rstand.d.N. In this review, we overview the physical and.chemical processes that are known to play a role in d.N, Through a d.tailed.review of the literature, we classify inks into three general categories based.on their transport properties, and.highlight the myriad.ways that. d.N can be used.to perform chemistry at the tip of a scanning probe.
