In order to detect molecular markers for the epidermal growth factor inhibitor 4-(3-chloro-benzyl)- 6,7-dimethoxy-quinazoline (tyrphostin), we investigated the kinetics of p120-catenin and periplakin in the human buccal mucosa squamous cancer cell line BICR 10 treated with 3 nM tyrphostin. Growth of BICR 10 cells was inhibited by treatment with tyrphostin. Although changes were not observed in the expression of EGFR and p120-catenin, expression of Akt, Src and periplakin in BICR 10 treated with 3 nM tyrphostin tended to decrease. In addition, phosphorylation of EGFR, Akt and Src was inhibited by treatment with tyrphostin. On immunocytochemical staining, immunoreactions with phosphorylated EGFR, phosphorylated Akt and phosphorylated p120-catenin were weak in BICR 10 treated with tyrphostin. There was a slight immunocy to chemical reaction to periplakin in BICR 10 cells induced by tyrphostin. In conclusion, the decrease in phosphorylation in EGFR and p120-catenin by tyrphostin, following the decrease in Src or Akt phosphorylation, may inhibit expression of several growth factors associated with the proliferation and migration of cancer cells.

Extrahepatic portal vein aneurysm (PVA) is very rare with only 17 previously reported *** of treatment include resection,thrombectomy,and portal venous *** report herein the first case of large PVA with thrombosis which has been managed without surgical treatment over a long period.A PVA was detected in a 78-year-old woman by abdominal *** tomography revealed an aneurysm of 6 cm in a diameter in the porta *** venography showed obstruction of the portal vein and developed collateral vessels around the *** the patient had no symptoms of portal hypertension,we decided to carefully manage her clinical course without surgical *** present,this patient is healthy and has developed no complications over the 5 years since leaving our *** case suggests that surgical treatment is not required for PVA without portal hypertension.

BACKGROUND Esophageal adenocarcinoma(EAC)derived from long-segment Barrett’s esophagus(LSBE)is extremely rare in ***-related EAC is often difficult to diagnose in the horizontal *** the tumor has spread throughout the LSBE,whole circumferential endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)should be performed,which is difficult to complete ***,whole circumferential ESD can bring refractory postoperative *** hereby report a case of EAC involving the whole circumference of the LSBE,achieving complete endoscopic removal without *** SUMMARY An 85-year-old man with the chief complaint of dysphagia underwent *** suspected a flat-type cancerous lesion that extended the whole circumference of the LSBE(C 3.5,M 4.0)using narrow-band imaging magnification endoscopy(NBI-M).We achieved circumferential en bloc resection of the lesion safely with special ESD *** of the ESD specimens demonstrated that the superficial EAC extended the whole circumference of the LSBE,and papillary or well-differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma was confined in the lamina propria mucosa showing a vertical negative *** prevent post-ESD stenosis,we performed endoscopic local injection of steroids,followed by oral administration of *** was no evidence of esophageal refractory stenosis or tumor recurrence 30 mo after *** summary,we experienced a rare case of LSBE-related *** horizontal tumor extent was accurately diagnosed by ***,we achieve whole circumferential ESD safely without postoperative refractory *** NBI-M,ESD,and steroid therapy enabled the curative resection of superficial full circumferential LSBE-related EAC without refractory postoperative stenosis.

In the world, recent increased disturbances, congestion management problems, and increases of complexity in operating power systems have brought the need for integrations and improvements of power systems. Advanced applications in WAMPAC （wide area monitoring, protection, and control） systems provide a cost effective solution to improve system planning, operation, maintenance, and energy trading. Synchronized measurement technology and the application are an important element of WAMPAC. In addition, PMUs （phasor measurement units） are the most accurate and advanced time-synchronized technology available for WAMPAC application. Therefore, the original measurement system of PMUs has been constructed in Japan. This paper describes the estimation method of a center of inertia frequency by applying actual measurement data. The application of this method enables us to extract power system oscillations from measurement data appropriately. Moreover, this proposed method will help to the clarification of power system dynamics and this application will make it possible to realize the monitoring of power system oscillations associated with the power system stability.

Actual Status of Healthy Lifestyle Habits of Public Health Nurses in Japan

Background: The public health nurse should make efforts to keep his/her own mental and physical health good, which is the professional responsibility. However, a variety of challenging issues have been pointed out with regard to well-being of healthcare professionals. Public health nurses are likely to face some difficulties in their habits of leading healthy lifestyles. The purpose of this study was to identify how Japanese public health nurses actually live their healthy lives. Methods: This study covered 1725 public health nurses in the Chugoku/Shikoku Region. We conducted an anonymous self-completed questionnaire survey. As basic attributes, the following 6 categories were set. The health practice indices used in this research consisted of the 7 practices of Breslow’s Health Practice Index (B-HPI), the Morimoto’s 8 practices, and 6 practices related to lifestyle habits that have been developed independently by the authors of this research (Health Lifestyle Index (HLI)), that is, 16 practices in total. The study plan was approved by the Ethics Committee of Okayama University. Results: We analyzed the 960 (55.7%) valid responses. This survey has demonstrated that the healthy life-style practices of public health nurses are generally good. However, there were some practices such as eating between meals, having little physical activity, and not having a good rest/sleep, that need to be improved. None of the assessment tools correlated with the length of experience. Conclusions: This survey has clarified that the healthy lifestyle practices of public health nurses did not correlated with their length of experience, indicating that the healthy lifestyle practices are not intensified by the accumulated career experience as public health nurses.
