Introduction: Biometrics therefore corresponds to the measurement of the morphological elements of humans. One of the most common ultrasound requests by clinicians is the assessment of liver size. The aim of our study was to study liver biometry using ultrasound in healthy adult subjects. Material and Methods: This was a prospective, descriptive and analytical study, carried out at CHU Point-G over a period of 7 months. A liver ultrasound was performed on 100 individuals without lesions, by a doctor in his final year of specialization in radiology and medical imaging. For each subject, we determined the height and anteroposterior diameter of the right liver and the left liver. Results: The mean age was 39.05 ± 16.86 years. The body mass index (BMI) 18.5 - 24.9 group was the most represented with 58%. The mean height of the right liver was 138.40 ± 14.85 mm. It was 136.81 ± 14.70 mm in men and 139.92 ± 14.99 mm in women (P = 0.306). That of the left liver was 95.55 ± 14.34 mm, in men, it was 91.79 ± 13.51 mm and 99.16 ± 14.31 mm in women (P = 0.019). We found a significant correlation between right liver height and BMI (P = 0.013). Conclusion: The mean values of liver biometry were established in our series. There was a significant correlation between right liver height and BMI. Liver ultrasound remains a reliable technique for liver biometry.

The aim of this study was to report a case of multi-visceral sarcoidosis at the Mother-Child Hospital Center (CHME) “Le Luxembourg” in Bamako, Mali. Observation: This is a patient aged 62 at the time of consultation, a housewife, residing in the Banconi district, who was referred to us for thoracic-abdominopelvic imaging for chronic liver disease. After several diagnostic errors, the thoracic-abdominopelvic CT scan and liver MRI performed in our center showed, at the thoracoabdominal level, bilateral diffuse pulmonary micronodules and bilateral mediastinal-hilar lymphadenopathy;on the abdominal level, a dysmorphic liver with plaques of steatosis and a granular appearance of the liver parenchyma without periportal fibrosis. These imaging data combined with those from the liver nodule biopsy and biology confirmed the diagnosis of sarcoidosis type II. Treatment with corticosteroids gave satisfactory results and the patient recovered after 18 months. Clinical and CT monitoring 2 years from the start of the disease and 2 months from the end of treatment showed complete resolution of the lesions. Conclusion: The multi-visceral location of sarcoidosis is an entity whose diagnosis remains difficult;diagnostic and interventional imaging has an important place in its management.

Introduction: A thyroid nodule is a localized hypertrophy within the thyroid parenchyma. The aim of our study was to study the benefit of ultrasound in the Ti-rads classification of thyroid nodules. Methodology: This was a prospective study with a descriptive aim, with prospective collection, which took place over a period of 17 months at the “Marie Curie” medical clinic. The ultrasound machine used was a Voluson E8 from 2011 and the examinations were carried out by two radiologists and two experienced sonographers. The parameters studied were sociodemographic data;clinical data and ultrasound aspects of the Ti-rads classification in the management of nodules. Results: We collected 235 patients out of 738 patients referred to the service for a cervical ultrasound, i.e. a frequency of 31.84% of cases. There was a female predominance with 95.7% of cases and a sex ratio of 0.04. The average age of our patients was 50 years. We found on cervical ultrasound: Isthmo-lobar glandular hyperplasia in 99 patients, i.e. a frequency of 42.1%. The Ti-rads 3 classification was the most represented in 69.4% of cases. The benignity criterion represented 85.6% of cases in our patients and the malignancy criterion represented 14.4% of cases. Conclusion: The precise description of a thyroid nodule provided by ultrasound (Ti-rads) is essential in the management of nodules.

Introduction: Radiology and medical imaging examinations bring together the means of acquiring and restoring images of the human body from different physical phenomena such as the absorption of X-rays, nuclear magnetic resonance, reflection of ultrasound waves or radioactivity, with which we sometimes associate optical imaging techniques such as endoscopy. The objective of our study was to study the profile of radiological examinations in the radiology and medical imaging department of the “KALALE” medical clinic. Methodology: This was a descriptive, prospective study that took place over a period of six (6) months in the radiology and medical imaging department of the “KALALE” medical clinic and the centers of health of communes III and IV of Bamako in Mali. Data collection was carried out on a survey form. The parameters studied were sociodemographic data, clinical data, radiological data. Results: We recorded 6030 radiology examinations of which 19% of the examination frequency cases came from the “KALALE” medical clinic and 81% of the cases were referrals from the reference health centers of communes III and IV. There were 1500 X-rays or 24.9% of cases including 54% cases of bone X-rays;5% of cases of skull and face X-rays;5% of cases of Intravenous Urography (IVU);4% of cases of Hysterosalpingography (HSG);3% of cases of Retrograde Ureterocystography (UCR) and 1% of cases of X-ray of the Abdomen without preparation (ASP). We found 4530 ultrasounds or 75.1% of cases. Conclusion: Medical imaging has become essential in the study of the human body and now constitutes an essential tool for the detection and treatment of most pathologies, from simple fractures to the most serious tumors.

Introduction: Fibromatosis colli is a congenital muscle tumor with an incidence of 0.4%. This lesion is fibrous involving the sternocleidomastoid muscle, discovered after a few weeks of life in a patient who had known or unknown perinatal trauma. Rarely bilateral, it evolves spontaneously favorably in a few weeks or months in the vast majority of cases. Objectives: The purpose of this work is to bring the interest in ultrasound in the management of fibromatosis colli. Material and Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study covering a period of 21 months from December 2019 to December 2021 in the medical imaging department of the medical clinic “Marie Cuire” in Bamako. The variables analyzed were age, sex and ultrasound results. The ultrasound system used was General Electric (GE). Data analysis was performed using Excel software. Results: During the 21-month study period, 1260 infants were seen in our service, including 0.95% for cervical swelling. We had a male predominance with 8 cases out of 12 cases and the age of the patients was mainly between 21 days and 30 days. The diagnosis was made by ultrasound, which revealed within the Sterno-cleido-mastoid muscle (MSCM) a hypo-isoechoic or heterogeneous oblong mass or thickening without any other associated anomaly. Conclusion: Cervical ultrasound is a significant examination in the management of fibromatosis colli for diagnostic confirmation and therapeutic follow-up.

Intrasellar arachnoidocele is a herniation of the optochiasmatic cistern through a dehiscence of the sellar diaphragm producing an empty sella turcica, hence its name empty sella turcica syndrome. It is an extremely rare benign malformative pathology. We report a case of intra-sellar arachnoidocele in a 34-year-old woman revealed during an annual control of a sellar mass under dossinex by cerebral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) which found the cystic formation of liquid signal identical to that of the LCS in hypo signal T1 and hyper signal T2 without enhancement after injection of Gadolinium. The epidemiological, clinical and radiological aspects of arachnoidocele were analyzed. The purpose of this work is to bring the interest of MRI in the management of this pathology.

Introduction: The study of the posterior segment of the eye has nowadays become one of the most frequent indications for diagnostic ultrasound in the ophthalmological field. The objective of this work is to contribute to the improvement of the diagnostic management of pathologies of the posterior segment of the eye in the radiology department of the medical clinic “Marie Curie” in Bamako. Material and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study carried out in the medical imaging department from January 2020 to January 2022. It concerned all patients who presented for the study of the ocular posterior segment on ultrasound. Results: Fifty-two (52) patients out of a total of 109 were included in the study, i.e. a frequency of 47.70%. The average age was 33.90 with the extremes ranging from 05 years to 75 years. The male sex dominated with a frequency of 69.23%. Ocular ultrasound was prescribed mainly by ophthalmologists (100%). In the study of the posterior segment, preoperative assessment represented the most frequent indications with respectively 55.76% and 23.10%. Retinal detachment and vitreous hemorrhage were the most found lesions on ultrasound with 50% and 34.61% respectively. Conclusion: Ocular ultrasound is accessible in Bamako and has allowed the study of the posterior segment of the eye. It occupies an important place in the study and management of ocular pathologies of the posterior segment.

Introduction: Pathologies of the lower urinary tract are common in urology composed of various conditions, responsible for urinary disorders. Despite the new methods, exploration in Africa is mainly based on retrograde urethrocystography (UCR). The main objective was to determine the importance of UCR in the diagnosis of pathologies of the lower urinary tract. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective and descriptive study covering a period of 5 years (July 2016-June 2021). It involved all patients admitted to the ward for retrograde urethrocystography during the period. A remote-controlled table of the GE PRESTILIX 1600× type was used for the examinations. Results: At the end of our study we collected 100 cases of pathologies of the lower urinary tract out of a total of 112 RCUs performed or 89.28%. Pathologies of the lower urinary tract accounted for 78% of the UCRs in the department. The age group of (61 - 70) was the most affected with extremes from 1 year to 101 years. Non-specific urination disorders were the most common indications (43%), followed by acute urine retention (18%). Acquired urethral pathology was the most common (89%), followed by bladder neck disease 5% and posterior urethral valve with 4%, Bladder struggle was the most common associated sign (54%) with post-urination residue in 97% of patients. Conclusion: Pathologies of the lower urinary tract are relatively common in our region, dominated by urethral narrowings. Retrograde urethrocystography remains the reference examination in our control for the diagnosis of obstructive pathologies of the lower urinary tract while specifying the seat of the obstacle.

Abdominal wall malformations correspond to a wide spectrum of congenital anomalies that are due to a defect in the closure of the anterior abdominal wall and can be fatal. We report the case of laparoschisis associated with a poly malformation syndrome in the same fetus at the reference health center of commune III of the district of Bamako. The objective is to clarify the interest of antenatal ultrasound in the diagnosis and prognosis of these malformations. It was a 19-year-old prim gravid woman received as part of the prenatal check-up. Antenatal ultrasound had allowed the diagnosis of malformation of the anterior abdominal wall of the gastroschisis type associated with abnormalities of the neural tube, the urogenital system and the bone skeleton. The antenatal diagnosis of the malformations had motivated the realization of a therapeutic termination of pregnancy at 19 weeks of amenorrhea and 3 days by triggering and vaginal delivery, allowing the confirmation of the diagnosis of gastroschisis and the poly malformation syndrome which is extremely rare. Antenatal ultrasound remains an ideal means of imaging for monitoring pregnancy and had made it possible to make the prognosis and antenatal diagnosis of multiple malformations in association, and to indicate better therapeutic decision-making.
