Transient breathing dynamics during extinction of dissipative solitons in mode‑locked fiber lasers

The utilization of the dispersive Fourier transformation approach has enabled comprehensive observation of the birth process of dissipative solitons in fiber lasers.However,there is still a dearth of deep understanding regarding the extinction process of dissipative solitons.In this study,we have utilized a combination of experimental and numerical techniques to thoroughly examine the breathing dynamics of dissipative solitons during the extinction process in an Er-doped mode-locked fiber laser.The results demonstrate that the transient breathing dynamics have a substantial impact on the extinction stage of both steady-state and breathing-state dissipative solitons.The duration of transient breathing exhibits a high degree of sensitivity to variations in pump power.Numerical simulations are utilized to produce analogous breathing dynamics within the framework of a model that integrates equations characterizing the population inversion in a mode-locked laser.These results corroborate the role of Q-switching instability in the onset of breathing oscillations.Furthermore,these findings offer new possibilities for the advancement of various operational frameworks for ultrafast lasers.

Association of prealbumin with short-term and long-term outcomes in patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction

BACKGROUND Prealbumin is considered to be a useful indicator of nutritional status. Furthermore, it has been found to be associated with severities and prognosis of a range of diseases. However, limited data on the association of baseline prealbumin level with outcomes of patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction(STEMI) are available.METHODS We analyzed 2313 patients admitted for acute STEMI between October 2013 and December 2020. In-hospital outcomes and mortality during the 49 months(interquartile range: 26–73 months) follow-up period were compared between patients with the low prealbumin level(sity score matching, patients with the low prealbumin level than those with the high prealbumin level experienced higher incidences of heart failure with Killip class Ⅲ(9.9%vs. 4.4%, P = 0.034), cardiovascular death(8.4% vs. 3.4%, P = 0.035) and the composite of major adverse cardiovascular events(19.2%vs. 10.3%, P = 0.012). Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified that the low prealbumin level(sitivity = 0.544, specificity = 0.794). However, after multivariate adjustment of possible confounders, baseline prealbumin level(170 mg/L) was no longer independently associated with 49-month cardiovascular death. After propensity score matching, Kaplan-Meier survival curves revealed consistent results.CONCLUsiONS Decreased prealbumin level closely related to unfavorable short-term outcomes. However, after multivariate adjustment and controlling for baseline differences, baseline prealbumin level was not independently associated with an increased risk of long-term cardio

Beam based alignment using a neural network

Beams typically do not travel through the magnet centers because of errors in storage rings.The beam deviating from the quadrupole centers is affected by additional dipole fields due to magnetic field feed-down.Beam-based alignment(BBA)is often performed to determine a golden orbit where the beam circulates around the quadrupole center axes.For storage rings with many quadrupoles,the conventional BBA procedure is time-consuming,particularly in the commissioning phase,because of the necessary iterative process.In addition,the conventional BBA method can be affected by strong coupling and the nonlinearity of the storage ring optics.In this study,a novel method based on a neural network was proposed to determine the golden orbit in a much shorter time with reasonable accuracy.This golden orbit can be used directly for operation or adopted as a starting point for conventional BBA.The method was demonstrated in the HLS-II storage ring for the first time through simulations and online experiments.The results of the experiments showed that the golden orbit obtained using this new method was consistent with that obtained using the conventional BBA.The development of this new method and the corresponding experiments are reported in this paper.

Demethylase-assisted site-specific detection of N^(1)-methyladenosine in RNA

The dynamic RNA modifications have been viewed as new posttranscriptional regulator in modulating gene expression as well as in a broad range of physiological processes.N^(1)-methyladenosine(m^(1)A)is one of the most prevalent modifications existing in multiple types of RNAs.In-depth investigation of the functions of m^(1)A requires the site-specific assessment of m^(1)A stoichiometry in RNA.Herein,we established a demethylase-assisted method(DA-m^(1)A)for the site-specific detection and quantification of m^(1)A in RNA.N^(1)-methyl group in m^(1)A could result in the stalling of reverse transcription at m^(1)A site,thus producing the truncated cDNA.E.coli AlkB is a demethylase that can demethylate m^(1)A to produce adenine in RNA,thus generating full-length cDNA from AlkB-treated RNA.Evaluation of the produced amounts of full-length cDNA by quantitative real-time PCR can achieve the site-specific detection and quantification of m^(1)A in RNA.With the DA-m^(1)A method,we examined and successfully confirmed the previously well-characterized m^(1)A sites in various types of RNAs with low false positive rate.In addition,we found that the level of m^(1)A was significantly decreased at the bromodomain containing 2(BRD2)mRNA position 1674 and CST telomere replication complex component 1(CTC1)mRNA position 5643 in human hepatocellular carcinoma tissues.The results suggest that these two m^(1)A sites in mRNA may be involved in liver tumorigenesis.Taken together,the DA-m^(1)A method is simple and enables the rapid,cost-effective,and site-specific detection and quantification of m^(1)A in RNA,which provides a valuable tool to decipher the functions of m^(1)A in human diseases.

A Post-Quantum Cross-Domain Authentication Scheme Based on Multi-Chain Architecture

Due to the rapid advancements in network technology,blockchain is being employed for distributed data storage.In the Internet of Things(IoT)scenario,different participants manage multiple blockchains located in different trust domains,which has resulted in the extensive development of cross-domain authentication techniques.However,the emergence of many attackers equipped with quantum computers has the potential to launch quantum computing attacks against cross-domain authentication schemes based on traditional cryptography,posing a significant security threat.In response to the aforementioned challenges,our paper demonstrates a post-quantum cross-domain identity authentication scheme to negotiate the session key used in the cross-chain asset exchange process.Firstly,our paper designs the hiding and recovery process of user identity index based on lattice cryptography and introduces the identity-based signature from lattice to construct a post-quantum cross-domain authentication scheme.Secondly,our paper utilizes the hashed time-locked contract to achieves the cross-chain asset exchange of blockchain nodes in different trust domains.Furthermore,the security analysis reduces the security of the identity index and signature to Learning With Errors(LWE)and Short Integer Solution(siS)assumption,respectively,indicating that our scheme has post-quantum security.Last but not least,through comparison analysis,we display that our scheme is efficient compared with the cross-domain authentication scheme based on traditional cryptography.

Partial Collapsing Degeneration of Floer Trajectories and Adiabatic Gluing

In the present paper,we study partial collapsing degeneration of Hamiltonian-perturbed Floer trajectories for an adiabatic ε-family and its reversal adiabatic gluing,as the prototype of the partial collapsing degeneration of 2-dimensional(perturbed)J-holomorphic maps to 1-dimensional gradient segments.We consider the case when the Floer equations are S^(1)-invariant on parts of their domains whose adiabatic limit has positive length as ε→0,which we call thimble-flow-thimble configurations.The main gluing theorem we prove also applies to the case with Lagrangian boundaries such as in the problem of recovering holomorphic disks out of pearly configuration.In particular,our gluing theorem gives rise to a new direct proof of the chain isomorphism property between the Morse-Bott version of Lagrangian intersection Floer complex of L by Fukaya-Oh-Ohta-Ono and the pearly complex of L Lalonde and Biran-Cornea.It also provides another proof of the present authors’earlier proof of the isomorphism property of the PSS map without involving the target rescaling and the scale-dependent gluing.

Background Tetralogy of Fallot(TOF)is the most common cyanotic congenital heart disease.Children with TOF would be confronted with neurological impairment across their lifetime.Our study aimed to identify the risk factors for cerebral morphology changes and cognition in postoperative preschool-aged children with TOF.Methods We used mass spectrometry(MS)technology to assess the levels of serum metabolites,Wechsler preschool and primary scale of intelligence-Fourth edition(WPPsi-Ⅳ)index scores to evaluate neurodevelopmental levels and multimodal magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)to detect cortical morphological changes.Results Multiple linear regression showed that preoperative levels of serum cortisone were positively correlated with the gyrification index of the left inferior parietal gyrus in children with TOF and negatively related to their lower visual spaces index and nonverbal index.Meanwhile,preoperative SpO_(2) was negatively correlated with levels of serum cortisone after adjusting for all covariates.Furthermore,after intervening levels of cortisone in chronic hypoxic model mice,total brain volumes were reduced at both postnatal(P)11.5 and P30 days.Conclusions Our results suggest that preoperative serum cortisone levels could be used as a biomarker of neurodevelopmental impairment in children with TOF.Our study findings emphasized that preoperative levels of cortisone could influence cerebral development and cognition abilities in children with TOF.

This prospective multicenter phase II study evaluated the clinical efficacy of neoadjuvant nivolumab-exclusive(N)and nivolumab–chemotherapy(N/C)combinations based on PD-L1 expression.Eligible patients exhibited resectable clinical stage IIA–IIIB(AJCC 8th edition)NSCLC without EGFR/ALK alterations.Patients received either mono-nivolumab(N)or nivolumab+nabpaclitaxel+carboplatin(N/C)for three cycles based on PD-L1 expression.The primary endpoint was the major pathological response(MPR).key secondary endpoints included the pathologic complete response(pCR),objective response rate(ORR),and event-free survival(EFS).Baseline PD-L1 expression and perioperative circulating tumor DNA(ctDNA)status were correlated with pCR and EFS.Fifty-two patients were enrolled,with 46 undergoing surgeries.The MPR was 50.0%(26/52),with 25.0%(13/52)achieving pCR,and 16.7%and 66.7%for patients with PD-L1≥50%in N and N/C groups,respectively.Thirteen(25.0%)patients experienced grade 3 or higher immune-related adverse events during neoadjuvant treatment.Patients with post-neoadjuvant ctDNA negativity was more likely to have pCR(39.1%)compared with those remained positive(6.7%,odds ratio=6.14,95%CI 0.84-Inf,p=0.077).With a median follow-up of 25.1 months,the 18-month EFS rate was 64.8%(95%CI 51.9–81.0%).For patients with ctDNA–vs.ctDNA+,the 18m-EFS rate was 93.8%vs 47.3%(HR,0.15;95%CI 0.04,0.94;p=0.005).Immunochemotherapy may serve as an optimal neoadjuvant treatment even for patients with PD-L1 expression≥50%.ctDNA negativity following neoadjuvant treatment and surgery could help identify superior pathological and survival benefits,which requires further confirmation in a prospective clinical trial(NCT04015778).

Photoinduced superlubricity on TiO_(2) surfaces

Superlubricity control is of great interest in both industry and scientific research,and several methods have been proposed to achieve this goal.In this work,ultraviolet(UV)light was introduced into titanium dioxide(TiO_(2))and silicon nitride(si_(3)N_(4))tribosystems to accomplish photoinduced superlubricity.The friction coefficients(COFs)between si_(3)N_(4) balls and TiO_(2) plates in the mixtures of sulfuric acid(H^(2)SO_(4))solution and glycerol solution were obviously reduced,and the system entered the superlubricity region(COFsilica(siO_(2))layers on the surfaces of si_(3)N_(4) balls and the elastohydrodynamic effects were determined to be fundamental to the low friction in this experiment,and the enhancement of the combination between the TiO_(2) surface and the hydroxy group of glycerol by UV illumination was the key to the photoinduced superlubricity in this system.These findings showed one method for achieving superlubricity by introducing a light field that could be further applied to special working conditions.
