Enhancing mechanism of intestinal absorption of highly lipophilic compounds using microemulsion e Quantitative analysis of the partitioning to the mesenteric lymph in intestinal cells

The purpose of this study was to quantify the effect of the fatty acid alkyl-chain length of a polyethylene glycol(PEG)glyceryl ester,which was used as a microemulsion oil component,on the partitioning of highly lipophilic compounds to the mesenteric lymph after oral *** blue N,a highly lipophilic anthraquinone derivative,was orally administered to lymph duct-cannulated and untreated rats in two kinds of different ***®50/13 and Gelucire®44/14 were used as the oil component with long chain and medium chain fatty acid portions,respectively,of PEG glyceryl esters in *** cumulative amount of oil blue N in lymph fluid was almost the same between the two microemulsions,although the transferred amount of oil component(triglyceride)in the lymph after administration of the Gelucire®50/13 microemulsion was significantly higher than that of the Gelucire®44/14 *** the other hand,the solubility of oil blue N in Gelucire®44/14 was much higher than that in Gelucire®50/*** significant differences were observed between microemulsions in the bioavailability of oil blue *** these data,the partitioning of oil blue N to the lymph was calculated using a mathematical model,showing that the partitioning ratios of oil blue N to the lymph fluid were almost the same for both *** solubility of oil blue N to the oil component of the microemulsions and the transfer of triglycerides to the lymph after administration of the microemulsions counteract each other,leading to similar partitioning ratios of oil blue N to the lymph.

Mg_(97)Zn_(1)Y_(2)alloys with high ignition temperatures were developed by adding *** addition of Sr resulted in the formation of a uniform and thin Y_(2)O_(3)***–Zn–Y alloys containing at least 0.25 at.%Sr exhibited ignition temperatures of 1270–1320 *** a result of EDS measurement,Sr was found to be concentrated in the Y_(2)O_(3)*** addition,a mixed film of MgO and Sr O formed on the outer layer in the 1.5 at.%Sr-containing Mg_(97)Zn_(1)Y_(2)*** findings suggest that the uniform and thin Y_(2)O_(3)film that maintains high soundness at high temperatures was formed owing to valence control and the formation of a protective outer oxide film.

Gastrojejunostomy followed by induction chemotherapy for incurable gastric cancer with outlet obstruction

A 72-year-old male gastric cancer patient with outlet obstruction underwent laparoscopic exploration. The examination disclosed intraperitoneal free cancer cells with no overt peritoneal, lymphatic, or hepatic metastasis. The patient underwent laparoscopy-assisted gastroje-junostomy (LAGJ) and started chemotherapy with S-1 plus cisplatin on postoperative day 13. Three course of the chemotherapy shrank the tumor markedly. Then, the patient underwent gastrectomy with a curative intent. Laparotomy revealed no intraperitoneal free cancer cells, and microscopically complete resection was achieved. The patient received S-1 chemotherapy as postoperative adjuvant treatment for 1 year, and is still alive with no evidence of peritoneal recurrence. LAGJ followed by S-1 plus cisplatin is one of the optional treatments that should be considered for patients with outlet obstruction as it may widen opportunities for potentially curative resection.

Interaction between basigin and monocarboxylate transporter 2 in the mouse testes and spermatozoa

Basigin is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily and plays various important roles in biological events including spermatogenesis. To examine the basigin molecular variants during spermatogenesis and sperm maturation in the mouse, immunoprecipitated basigin samples from testis and epididymal spermatozoa were analyzed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry （LC-MS/MS）. The results demonstrated that basigin molecules from the testis and spermatozoa were separable into two major bands and that the differences in the molecular sizes were possibly because of an endoproteolytic cleavage. Since basigin is known to be a chaperone for the monocarboxylate transporter 1 （MCT1）, the localization of basigin, MCT1 and MCT2 was examined during postnatal testicular development. Immunohistochemical studies showed different expression patterns of MCT1 and MCT2. MCT1 was localized on the surface of spermatogonia, spermatocytes, and spermatids. In contrast, MCT2 appeared on the principal piece of spermatozoa in the testis, where basigin was also observed. In mature epididymal spermatozoa, MCT2 was located on the midpiece, where basigin co-localized with MCT2 but not with MCT1. Furthermore, MCT2 was immunoprecipitated with basigin in mouse testes and sperm. These results suggest that basigin has a functional role as a binding partner with MCT2 in testicular and epididymal spermatozoa.

Effects of sclerostin antibody on bone healing

Estimation of Potential GHG Emission Reduction through Corresponded REDD Plus Activities in Remote Area in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia—Case Study in the Paduran Area

REDD plus activities corresponded in Central Kalimantan Province, Indonesia and their GHG emission reductions potential were analyzed. Target area is located in a remote area from Pa-langkaraya, Capital of Central Kalimantan Province and consisted of immigrating people mainly from Java Island. In the target area, most of local people conducted unsustainable land use activities (e.g. slash-and-burn agriculture). From analysis of past land use in the target area, there were drastic changes in land use from 1989 after migration began. Natural secondary forest with high density was greatly reduced (2010 levels are approximately 80% of 1996 levels) and converted to cropland and settlement. Also, the reduction in natural secondary forest with high density allowed Melaleuca cajuputi Powell forest to rapidly increase in size (2010 levels are approximately 3.7 times as 1996 levels). Additionally, as marked point, there was an increase in oil palm plantations from 2008 and onwards. From results of land use change in the past, mean annual GHG emissions of 5450 Gg CO2e year-1 had been continued until year 2010. To consider counter-measure for reducing GHG emissions in the target area, the relationship between past land use changes and human activities was analyzed through workshops with stakeholders of 6 different groups (village authorities, forest fire fighting team, members of farmers group, large landowners, workers outside of village and oil palm plantation and mother having small children). The results of the workshops showed that the core problem of unsustainable land use faced by 4 of the 6 groups of stakeholders was the lack of job opportunities (means to earn a living) in the target area. Also, it was learned that core groups considered oil palm plantations is to alleviate the problem and provide a source of alternative income. Novel histone deacetylase inhibitor exhibits antitumor activity via apoptosis induction in oral squamous cell carcinoma

Epigenetic modifications such as histone deacetylation are commonly related to tumor development and histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors have been shown to be potential drugs for cancer treatment. In the present study, we investigated the effects of a novel HDAC inhibitor, Ky-2, on oral squamous carcinoma cells in vitro. Cell viability was significantly reduced by treatment with Ky-2 at 25 nM, while it also led to augmentation of the proportion of cells in the sub-G1 phase and DNA fragmentation. In addition, immunoblot analysis revealed that Ky-2 enhanced the expression of apoptosis-related proteins. Our results showed that a low concentration of Ky-2 induced apoptosis in oral squamous carcinoma cells via activation of apoptotic cascades.
