The literature model studied in this article describes bubble formation and growth in a highly viscous polymer liquid with support of a gaseous matter dispersed under pressure before foaming. The foam growth is induced by the application of vacuum and mass transport of volatile components dissolved in the polymer liquid. Based on this literature model, aeration processes are calculated for intermediate viscosity and low viscosity biological systems, as they are of interest for biomatter foams, in particular for food foams in industrial processes. At the end of this article, the numerical results are presented and discussed.

Dendritic cells(DCs)are indispensable for defense against pathogens but may also contribute to *** of DCs upon the sensing of pathogens by Toll-like receptors(TLRs)is largely mediated by pattern recognition receptor/nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB)signaling and depends on the appropriate ubiquitination of the respective signaling ***,the ubiquitinating and deubiquitinating enzymes involved and their interactions are only incompletely ***,we reveal that the deubiquitinase OTU domain,ubiquitin aldehyde binding 1(OTUB1)is upregulated in DCs upon murine Toxoplasma gondii infection and lipopolysaccharide *** of DCs with the TLR11/12 ligand *** profilin and the TLR4 ligand lipopolysaccharide induced an increase in NF-κB activation in OTUB1-competent cells,resulting in elevated interleukin-6(IL-6),IL-12,and tumor necrosis factor(TNF)production,which was also observed upon the specific stimulation of TLR2,TLR3,TLR7,and ***,OTUB1 promoted NF-κB activity in DCs by K48-linked deubiquitination and stabilization of the E2-conjugating enzyme UBC13,resulting in increased K63-linked ubiquitination of IRAK1(IL-1 receptor-associated kinase 1)and TRAF6(TNF receptor-associated factor 6).Consequently,DC-specific deletion of OTUB1 impaired the production of cytokines,in particular IL-12,by DCs over the first 2 days of *** infection,resulting in the diminished production of protective interferon-γ(IFN-γ)by natural killer cells,impaired control of parasite replication,and,finally,death from chronic ***,all of which could be prevented by low-dose IL-12 treatment in the first 3 days of *** contrast,impaired OTUB1-deficient DC activation and cytokine production by OTUB1-deficient DCs protected mice from lipopolysaccharide-induced ***,these findings identify OTUB1 as a potent novel regulator of DCs during infectious and inflammatory diseases.

Using two-colour flow cytometry >200 antibodies submitted to the 8th International Workshop of Human Leukocyte Differentiation Antigens (HLDA8) have been analyzed for their reactivity with resting and activated CD203c+ basophils. Four antibodies either non-reactive or weakly reactive with resting basophils exhibited an increased reactivity with basophils activated by anti-IgE-mediated cross-linking of the high affinity IgE receptor (FcεRI). These include antibod- ies against CD164 (WS-80160, clone N6B6 and WS-80162, clone 67D2), as well as two reagents with previously unknown specificities that were identified as CD13 (WS-80274, clone A8) and CD107a (WS-80280, clone E63-880). The activation patterns followed either the “CD203c-like” or “CD63-like” activation profile. The CD203c profile is characterized by a rapid and significant upregulation (of CD13, CD164, and CD203c), reaching maximum levels after 5- 15 min of stimulation. The phosphoinositide-3-kinase (PI3K)-specific inhibitor wortmannin inhibited the upregulation of these markers whereas 12-O-tetradecanoyl-phorbol-13-acetate (TPA) induced a rapid and FcεRI-independent upregulation within 1-2 min. In the CD63 profile, maximum upregulation (of CD63 and CD107a) was detected only after 20-40 min, and upregulation by TPA reached maximum levels after 60 min. In summary, our data identify CD13, CD107a, and CD164 as novel basophil-activation antigens. Based on time kinetics of upregulation, we hypothesize that molecules of the “CD203c group” and the “CD63 group” are linked to two different mechanisms of basophil activation.

Celiac disease is a permanent intolerance to gluten proteins of wheat, rye, barley, and oats in genetically susceptible individuals. The clinical picture is characterized by inflammation and damage of the small intestinal mucosa and malabsorption of essential nutrients. Therapeutically, a lifelong strict gluten-free diet is necessary. The diagnosis of celiac disease is complex and includes symptomatology, serology, small intestinal histology, and genetic status. Serological testing plays a central role within the diagnostic procedure and is based on the measurement of disease-specific antibodies against gluten proteins (antigen) and tissue transglutaminase (autoantigen). Immunofluorescence detection and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays are currently most often applied for antibody testing. However, these tests are expensive and time-consuming. Therefore, simple and rapid alternative methods have been developed during the last years, and electro-chemical immunosensors seem to be the most promising analytical tools. The architecture of these sensors may comprise the following elements: working and reference electrodes, covalent or noncovalent binding of the antigen to the surface of the working electrode by means of a functional monolayer, and blocking of unreacted binding sites. The analytical procedure is initiated by adding the analyte (serum antibodies) and an analyte-specific second antibody, which is usually labeled with an enzyme. The special reaction of the enzyme with an appropriate substrate results in a product that initiates a current that can be measured by different electrical methods. A number of different electrochemical immunosensors variable in different electrodes, binding systems, secondary antibodies, and current measurements have been developed. Most of them have been tested with real human serum samples of celiac patients and healthy individuals, and some of them reached disease sensitivity and specificity comparable with traditional analytica

The Cretaceous/Paleogene （K/Pg） Working Group, after many years of studies, voted to define the Global Stratotype Section and Point （GSSP） for the base of the Danian Stage at the base of the boundary clay at a section near El Kef Tunisia. The GSSP was approved by the International Commission on Stratigraphy （ICS） and ratified by the International Union of Geological Sciences （IUGS） in 1991. Nevertheless, the GSSP was not officially published, although some papers dealing with geological aspects of the K/Pg boundary at El Kef have been published and this is quite well known. In April 2006, the GSSP was revisited, a marker was put in place and protection of the site was requested. Many correlation criteria are present at the GSSP of which the most useful are the meteorite impact evidence （iridium anomaly, Ni-rich spinel, etc.） and the mass extinction of planktic micro- and nannofossils. This event coincides with the GSSP, allowing us to propose that the K/Pg boundary is marked exactly by the moment of the meteorite impact, which implies that all the sediments generated by the impact belong to the Danian. This definition solves problems of correlation in the Yucatan peninsula （Mexico） and its surroundings.

Transition metal oxides with 4d or 5d metals are of great interest due to the competing interactions, of the Coulomb repulsion and the itineracy of the d-electrons, opening a possibility of building new quantum ground states. Particularly the 5d metal oxides containing Iridium have received significant attention within the last years, due to their unexpected physical properties, caused by a strong spin orbit coupling observed in It（IV）. A prominent example is the Mott-insulator Sr2IrO4. Another member of this family, the honeycomb lattice compound Na2IrO3, also being a Mott-insulator having, most probably, a Kitaev spin liquid ground state. By deintercalating sodium from Na2IrO3, the authors were able to synthesize a new honeycomb lattice compound with more than 50% reduced sodium content. The reduction of the sodium content in this layered compound leads to a change of the oxidation state of iridium from ＋ IV to ＋ V/＋ VI and a symmetry change from C2/c to P-3. This goes along with significant changes of the physical properties. Besides the vanishing magnetic ordering at 15 K, also the transport properties changes and instead insulating semiconducting properties are observed.

Background In addition to elevated concentrations of cytokines, patients with congestive endothelial dysfunction and increased plasma concentrations of adhesion molecules heart failure （CHF） show ke intercellular adhesion molecule-1 （ICAM-1）. Furthermore, the concentration of cardiotrophin-1 （CT-1） - a cytokine of the interleukin-6 superfamily - is increased in CHF. We tested the hypothesis whether CT-1 is able to induce ICAM-1 in human umbilical vein endothelial cells （HUVEC）. Furthermore we examined the signalling mechanisms of CT-1 mediated ICAM-1 expression. Methods Confluent layers of HUVEC were incubated with increasing concentrations of CT-1 （5 to 100 ng/ml） for different periods. ICAM-1 mRNA was determined by real-time polymerase chain reaction （PCR） and ICAM-1 surface expression by fluorescence-activated cell sorter （FACS） analysis and soluble ICAM-1 （slCAM-1） in the culture supernatant by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA）. To clarify the signalling pathway of CT-1 induced ICAM-1 expression we used various inhibitors of possible signal transducing molecules, electromobility shift assay （EMSA） and Western blot analysis. Results CT-1 induced ICAM-1 mRNA （1.8±0.8 fold increase compared to unstimulated cells after 6 hours） and protein （1.4±0.2 fold increase compared to unstimulated cells after 48 hours） in HUVEC in a time- and concentration-dependent manner. EMSA experiments show that CT-1 causes nuclear factor （NF） κB activation. Because parthenolide could inhibit CT-1 induced ICAM-1 expression NFκB activation is required in this pathway. CT-1 did not activate extracellular signal regulated kinases （ERK）, c-Jun N-terminal kinase （JNK） and p38. Conclusion CT-1 is able to induce ICAM-1 in endothelial cells by NFκB activation. These results may explain in part elevated ICAM-1 concentrations in patients with CHF and endothelial dysfunction.
