Ray tracing Particle Image Velocimetry(Rt-PIV)is an optical technique for high resolution velocity measurements in challenging optical systems,such as transparent packed beds,that uses ray tracing to correct for distortions introduced by transparent geometries in the light *** ray tracing based correction is a post processing step applied to the raw PIV particle images before classical PIV *** this study,Rt-PIV is performed in the top layer of a body centred cubic(bcc)sphere packing with gaseous flow,where optical access is obtained by the use of transparent N-BK7 glass balls with a diameter of d=40 ***-PIV introduces new experimental and numerical challenges,for example a limited field of view,illumination difficulties,a very large required depth of field and high sensitivity to geometric parameters used in the ray tracing *** challenges and their implications are the main scope and discussed in the present ***,the validation of the ray tracing reconstruction step is presented and examples for the obtained corrected vector fields in a packed bed are *** results show the strength of the method in reconstructing velocity fields behind transparent spheres that would not have been accessible by optical measurement techniques without the ray tracing correction.

Nephronophthisis-related ciliopathies(NPHP-RC)represent one of the most common causes of chronic kidney disease in the first three decades of life and are characterized by a broad genetic and clinical heterogeneity.1 to date,more than 90 genes have been identified that cause autosomalrecessive NPHP-RC if mutated,accounting for up to 60%of cases.1 Among these,homozygous deletions of NPHP1 are the most common *** genes localize to primary cilia,basal bodies,or the centrosome and lead to a primary ciliary disruption if mutated,thereby causing a broad phenotypical spectrum.1 Patients that suffer from NPHP-RC can either have an isolated renal phenotype,such as polyuria,polydipsia,decreased urinary concentration ability,and secondary enuresis due to loss of tubular function,or present with extrarenal symptoms including retinal degeneration,cerebellar vermis hypoplasia,or hepatic *** are often diagnosed in early adolescence,reaching end-stage renal disease before 25 years of age,but early onset and rapidly progressive forms of NPHP-RC also exist.1 Renal ultrasound indicates kidneys of normal or reduced renal length with increased echogenicity and corticomedullary cysts.

Impact of the microenvironment on the pathogenesis of mucosaassociated lymphoid tissue lymphomas

Approximately 8%of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas are extranodal marginal zone B cell lymphomas of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue(MALt),also known as MALt *** arise at a wide range of different extranodal sites,with most cases affecting the stomach,the lung,the ocular adnexa and the *** small intestine is involved in a lower percentage of *** growth in the early stages is associated with long-lasting chronic inflammation provoked by bacterial infections(e.g.,Helicobacter pylori or Chlamydia psittaci infections)or autoimmune conditions(e.g.,Sjögren’s syndrome or Hashimoto thyroiditis).While these inflammatory processes trigger lymphoma cell proliferation and/or survival,they also shape the ***,activated immune cells are actively recruited to the lymphoma,resulting in either direct lymphoma cell stimulation via surface receptor interactions and/or indirect lymphoma cell stimulation via secretion of soluble factors like *** addition,chronic inflammatory conditions cause the acquisition of genetic alterations resulting in autonomous lymphoma cell ***,novel agents targeting the microenvironment have been developed and clinically tested in MALt lymphomas as well as other lymphoid *** this review,we aim to describe the composition of the microenvironment of MALt lymphoma,the interaction of activated immune cells with lymphoma cells and novel therapeutic approaches in MALt lymphomas using immunomodulatory and/or microenvironmenttargeting agents.

Consensus views on competencies and teaching methods for an interprofessional curriculum on complementary and integrative medicine:A Delphi study

Objective:A collaborative team is necessary to help patients achieve their healthcare goals using complementary *** present,healthcare professionals do not feel sufficiently qualified to provide this *** study sought to identify competencies and teaching methods for interprofessional training on complementary and integrative medicine at medical ***:Sixty-five German-speaking experts with various professional backgrounds were invited to take part in a three-round Delphi *** the first round,predefined competencies were assessed on a seven-point Likert scale,and participants were invited to propose additional competencies that would be evaluated in the subsequent *** competencies were ranked based on the participant assessments and were assigned to four relevance *** the second and third rounds,suitable teaching methods were identified using free-text fields and multiple-choice *** a final workshop,participants synthesized the outcomes of the previous sessions and derived key competencies that would be a benefit to undergraduate interprofessional training in complementary and integrative medicine at medical ***:the three rounds plus final worksop were attended by 50,40,36 and 11 *** competencies that these experts determined to be highly relevant to teaching complementary and integrative medicine emphasized,in particular,the respectful treatment of patients and the importance of taking a medical *** these highly relevant competencies,three key targets were agreed upon in the final workshop:students are able to 1)classify and assess complementary medical terms and methods;2)work collaboratively and integrate patients into the interprofessional team;3)involve patients and their relatives respectfully and empathetically in all healthcare *** achieve these competency goals,the following teaching methods were highlighted:students discuss therapy options based on authentic patient c
