Background: Pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) is a complex procedure with a relatively high risk of complications. There is an increasing trend showing that the success of pancreato-enteral anastomosis depends on surgical skill and the material used. Methods: We present four cases of pancreato-enteral anastomosis resected 37 - 114 days after primary surgery and the analysis of the healing process, i.e., morphology of the pancreatic parenchyma, pancreatic duct, and digestive tract mucosa, as well as the pancreatic reaction to the sewing material by microscopic morphometry. Results: Evidence of regeneration in the columnar-lined mucosa of main pancreatic ducts in all cases of pancreato-enterostomy was observed. The inflammatory foreign-body reaction around monofilament stitch was present without an evident infection. There were no microscopic signs of pancreatic duct damage. Total foreign body reaction varied between 138.1 μm and 207.3 μm. Conclusions: This observation supports the beneficial use of thin monofilament threads for pancreato-enteral anastomosis. There was no evidence of harmful action from gastric or intestinal juices on pancreatic remnant or the Wirsung duct.

The typical mammalian neck consisting of seven cervical vertebrae(C1–C7)was established by the Late Permian in the cynodont forerunners of modern *** structure is precisely adapted to facilitate movements of the head during feeding,locomotion,predator evasion,and social ***,the clade including crown placentals,has a fossil record extending back more than 125 million years revealing significant morphological diversification in the *** very little is known concerning the early evolution of eutherian cervical morphology and its functional adaptations.A specimen of Zalambdalestes lechei from the Late Cretaceous of Mongolia boasts exceptional preservation of an almost complete series of cervical vertebrae(C2–C7)revealing a highly modified axis(C2).The significance of this cervical morphology is explored utilizing an integrated approach combining comparative anatomical examination across mammals,muscle reconstruction,geometric morphometrics and virtual range of motion *** compared the shape of the axis in Zalambdalestes to a dataset of 88 mammalian species(monotremes,marsupials,and placentals)using three-dimensional landmark *** results indicate that the unique axis morphology of Zalambdalestes has no close analog among living *** range of motion analysis of the neck strongly implies Zalambdalestes was capable of exerting very forceful head movements and had a high degree of ventral flexion for an animal its *** findings reveal unexpected complexity in the early evolution of the eutherian cervical morphology and suggest a feeding behavior similar to insectivores specialized in vermivory and defensive behaviors in Zalambdalestes akin to modern spiniferous mammals.

This narrative review provides an overview of the utilization of endoscopic ultrasound-guided gallbladder drainage(EUS-GBD)as a salvage approach in cases of unsuccessful conventional ***-GBD is a minimally invasive and effective technique for drainage in patients with acute cholecystitis with high risk of *** procedure has demonstrated impressive technical and clinical success rates with low rates of adverse events,making it a safe and effective option for appropriate ***,EUS-GBD can also serve as a rescue option for patients who have failed endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography or EUS biliary drainage for relief of jaundice in malignant biliary ***,patient selection is critical for the success of EUS-GBD,and proper patient selection and risk assessment are important to ensure the safety and efficacy of the *** the field continues to evolve and mature,ongoing research will further refine our understanding of the benefits and limitations of EUS-GBD,ultimately leading to improved outcomes for patients.

Autophagy is a prosurvival mechanism for the clearance of accumulated abnormal proteins,damaged organelles,and excessive lipids within mammalian cells.A growing body of data indicates that autophagy is reduced in aging *** reduction leads to various diseases,such as myocardial hypertrophy,infarction,and *** studies in animal models of an aging heart showed that fasting-induced autophagy improved cardiac function and *** improvement is related to autophagic clearance of damaged cellular components via either bulk or selective autophagy(such as mitophagy).In this editorial,we summarize the mechanisms of autophagy in normal and aging *** addition,the protective effect of fasting-induced autophagy in cardiac aging has been highlighted.

In their recently published study in Nature,Jenson et al.1 provide compelling,unexpected evidence that bacterial cGAMP synthase(cGAS)and other cGAS/DncV-like Nucleotidyltransferases(CD-NTase)undergo ubiquitin-like conjugation(ULC)in type-II cyclic-oligonucleotide-based anti-phage signaling systems(CBASS).cGAS conjugation promotes cyclic-nucleotide(CN)formation and thus antiphage ***,the authors also reveal a new class of phage-encoded CBASS inhibitor,T4 Vs.4,a CN-sponge which limits CBASS effector function and promotes phage replication,revealing another weapon in the“arms race”between phages and their bacterial hosts.

Assessing discharge periodicity in mountain catchments using classified environmental conditions(Tatra Mountains, Poland)

The periodicity of a river expressed in cycles of various lengths(monthly, seasonal,multiannual) is a result of climatic factors and overlapping environmental conditions within its catchment. In uncontrolled or poorly surveyed catchments, it is very difficult to determine the duration of a stream’s hydrological activity. This is especially relevant for catchments with complicated water circulation in karstic rocks. The present study concerns the small catchment of the Str??yski Potok river located in the area of the Tatra National Park, in the Western Tatras. The observation period covered the 2015 hydrological year, which differed hydrologically from average conditions. This study aims to develop a simple method to explain the processes shaping the mountain stream discharge periodicity. The research employed periodic field observations linked with climatic and non-climatic factors. Environmental conditions were assessed as four classes reflecting their influence on appearance or disappearance of mountain stream water. Class boundaries were the values of quartiles. The degree of correspondence between environmental factors and stream field observations was described via the Index DC(Degree Correspondence Index) *** correspondence(Index DC =0) was found in 23% catchments, a weak relationship between conditions favouring discharge and actual condition(Index DC=-1, +1) was noted within 11 catchments,while in 9 catchments, no such relationship was found(Index DC =-2, +2). The obtained results indicate a correspondence or lack thereof between the environmental potential of the catchment and its discharge periodicity.
