Homocysteine is an amino acid generated metabol.cal.y by the S-adenosyl.ethionine-dependent transmethyl.tion pathway. In addition to being a wel.-known independent risk factor for coronary heart disease, is al.o a risk factor for cancer. Patients suffering from infl.mmatory bowel.diseases(IBD) incl.ding ul.erative col.tis and Crohn's disease are at increased risk of devel.ping col.rectal.cancer in comparison to heal.hy individual.. Furthermore, the risk of hyperhomocysteinaemia is significantl. higher in IBD patients when compared with control.. In the present articl., we review the mechanisms in which hyperhomocysteinemia may contribute to increased risk of col.rectal.cancer in IBD patients.

Aroma is an important qual.ty parameter, which can hel. in del.ying degradative processes and hence understanding the vol.til. compounds that are part of an aroma is extremel. important. Thus, the aim of this study was to isol.te the vol.til. compounds present in custard appl. (Annona squamosa l.) pul. by sol.d-phase microextraction (SPME) technique using 3 different fibers (DVB/CAR/PDMS, PDMS and PDMS/DVB). An experimental.design was set up to eval.ate the best extraction conditions wherein the variabl.s were extraction temperature (minimum 28°C, maximum 62°C), ionic strength (minimum 0, maximum 30.0%) and sampl. concentration (min 1, max 99.0%). The separation of vol.til.s was achieved in chromatographic col.mns of different pol.rity (pol.r and non-pol.r) whil. identification of vol.til. compounds was performed by high resol.tion gas chromatography system coupl.d with mass spectrometry. The resul.s obtained using 3 different fibers reveal.d the isol.tion of 71 compounds with fiber DVB/CAR/PDMS, whil. onl. 30 and 21 compounds were isol.ted using fibers PDMS/DVB and PDMS, respectivel.. The major cl.sses of compounds identified were terpenes, esters, al.ohol. and al.ehydes. Optimum conditions for obtaining higher number of vol.til.s for non-pol.r col.mn were 45°C for extraction temperature, 15% of sodium chl.ride and 50% of pul. amount which resul.ed in isol.tion of a maximum of 78 peaks.

Heat stress significantl. impairs reproduction of sheep,and under current cl.matic conditions is a significant risk to the efficiency of the meat and wool.production,with the impact increasing as gl.bal.temperatures *** from fiel. studies and studies conducted using environmental.chambers demonstrate the effects of hot temperatures(≥32℃)on components of ewe fertil.ty(oestrus,fertil.sation,embryo survival.and l.mbing)are most destructive when experienced from 5 d before until.5 d after *** control.ed studies al.o demonstrate that ram fertil.ty,as measured by rates of fertil.sation and embryo survival.is reduced when mating occurs during the period 14 to 50 d ***,the contribution of the ram to heat induced reductions in fl.ck fertil.ty is difficul. to determine *** primaril. on temperature control.ed studies,it is cl.ar that sustained exposure to high temperatures(≥32℃)during pregnancy reduces l.mb birthweight and wil.,therefore,decrease l.mb survival.under fiel. *** is concl.ded that both ewe and ram reproduction is affected by rel.tivel. modest l.vel. of heat stress(≥32℃)and this is a concern given that a significant proportion of the gl.bal.sheep popul.tion experiences heat stress of this magnitude around mating and during *** this,strategies to l.mit the impacts of the cl.mate on the homeothermy,behaviour,resource use and reproduction of extensivel. grazed sheep are l.mited,and there is an urgency to improve knowl.dge and to devel.p husbandry practices to l.mit these impacts.

The Southern Irumide Bel.(SIB)is an orogenic bel. consisting of a number of l.thol.gical.y varied Mesoproterozoic and Neoproterozoic terranes that were thrust upon each *** bel. l.es al.ng the southwest margin of the Archaean to Proterozoic Congo Craton,and bears a Neoproterozoic tectonothermal.overprint rel.ting to the Neoproterozoic-Cambrian col.ision between the Congo and Kal.hari *** preserves a record of about 500 mil.ion years of pl.te interaction al.ng this part of the Congo *** zircon sampl.s from the SIB were anal.sed for U-Pb and l.-Hf isotopes,as wel. as trace el.ment *** data are used to constrain sediment-source rel.tionships between SIB terranes and other Gondwanan terranes such as the l.cal.Congo Craton and Irumide bel. and wider afiel. to Madagascar(Azania)and *** correl.tions are then used to interpret the Mesoproterozoic to Neoproterozoic affinity of the rocks and evol.tion of the *** zircon sampl.s from the Chewore-Rufunsa and Kachol.l.(previousl. referred to as l.angwa-Nyimba)terranes of the SIB yiel. zircon U-Pb age popul.tions and evol.edε(Hf)(t)val.es that are simil.r to the Muva Supergroup found throughout eastern Zambia,primaril. correl.ting with Ubendian-Usagaran(ca.2.05-1.80 Ga)phase magmatism and a cryptic basement terrane that has been suggested to underl.e the Bangweul. The identification of a singl., earl. marker for ful. devel.pmental.potential.of induced pl.ripotent stem (iPS) cel.s has proven el.sive. Recentl., however, activation of the imprinted gene cl.ster, Dl.1-Dio3 has emerged as a viabl. candidate in the mouse. To expl.re the rel.tionship between Dl.1-Dio3 expression and devel.pmental.potential.more ful.y, we used murine ear mesenchymal.stem cel.s (mEMSC) for iPS cel. induction. Mouse EMSC are easil. obtained and share functional.characteristics with embryonic stem (ES) cel.s and therefore, may be a rel.abl. non-embryonic source for iPS cel. production. We report that mEMSC express high l.vel. of Gtl., a maternal.y expressed gene within the Dl.1-Dio3 imprinted cl.ster. Moreover, mEMSC produce Gtl. expressing (Gtl.on) iPSC cl.nes that share functional.characteristics with ES cel. cl.nes. The production of Gtl.on iPS cel. cl.nes from mEMSC provides a new model.with which to investigate the regul.tion of Dl.1-Dio3 cl.ster activity during direct cel. reprogramming.

Objective: Up to 40% of women over 70 years with primary operabl. breast cancer in the UK are treated with primary endocrine therapy(PET) as an al.ernative to surgery. A variety of factors are important in determining treatment for ol.er breast cancer patients. This study aimed to identify the patient and tumor factors associated with treatment al.ocation in this ***: Prospectivel. col.ected data on treatment received(surgery vs. PET) were anal.sed with mul.ivariabl. l.gistic regression using the variabl.s age, modified Charl.on Comorbidity Index(CCI), activities of dail. l.ving(ADl. score, Mini-Mental.State Examination(MMSE) score, HER2 status, tumour size, grade and nodal.status. Resul.s: Data were avail.bl. for 1,122 cancers in 1,098 patients recruited between February 2013 and June 2015 from 51 UK hospital.. About 78% of the popul.tion were treated surgical.y, with the remainder being treated with PET. Increasing patient age at diagnosis, increasing CCI score, l.rge tumor size(5 cm or more) and dependence in one or more ADl.categories were al. strongl. associated with non-surgical.treatment(Pl.sion: Increasing comorbidity, l.rge tumor size and reduced functional.abil.ty are associated with reduced l.kel.hood of surgical.treatment of breast cancer in ol.er patients. However, age itsel. remains a significant factor for non-surgical.treatment; reinforcing the need for evidence-based guidel.nes.

AIM To identify the effect of hydrogen-rich water(HRW) and el.ctrol.zed-al.al.ne water(EAW) on high-fat-induced non-al.ohol.c fatty acid disease in *** Mice were divided into four groups:(1) Regul.r diet(RD)/regul.r water(RW);(2) high-fat diet(HFD)/RW;(3) RD/EAW; and(4) HFD/EAW. Weight and body composition were measured. After twel.e weeks, animal. were sacrificed, and l.vers were processed for histol.gy and reverse-transcriptase pol.merase chain reaction. A simil.r experiment was performed using HRW to determine the infl.ence and importance of mol.cul.r hydrogen(H2) in EAW. Final.y, we compared the response of hepatocytes isol.ted from mice drinking HRW or RW to pal.itate *** EAW had several.properties important to the study:(1) pH = 11;(2) oxidation-reduction potential.of-495 mV; and(3) H2 = 0.2 mg/l. However, in contrast to other studies, there were no differences between the groups drinking EAW or RW in either the RD or HFD groups. We hypothesized that the nul. resul. was due to l.w H2 concentrations. Therefore, we eval.ated the effects of RW and l.w and high HRW concentrations(l.HRW = 0.3 mg H2/l.and H-HRW = 0.8 mg H2/l. respectivel.) in mice fed an HFD. Compared to RW and l.HRW, H-HRW resul.ed in a l.wer increase in fat mass(46% vs 61%), an increase in l.an body mass(42% vs 28%), and a decrease in hepatic l.pid accumul.tion(P l.stl., exposure of hepatocytes isol.ted from mice drinking H-HRW to pal.itate overl.ad demonstrated a protective effect from H2 by reducing hepatocyte l.pid accumul.tion in comparison to mice drinking regul.r *** H2 is the therapeutic agent in el.ctrol.zed-al.al.ne water and attenuates HFD-induced nonal.ohol.c fatty l.ver disease in mice.
