BACKGROUND Hepatitis B virus(HBV)nucleos(t)ide analog(NA)therapy reduces liver disease but requires prolonged therapy to achieve hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg)*** is limited North American real-world data using non-invasive tools for fibrosis assessment and few have compared 1st generation NA or lamivudine(LAM)to tenofovir disoproxil fumarate(TDF).AIM To assess impact of NA on virological response and fibrosis regression using liver stiffness measurement(LSM)(i.e.,FibroScan®).MeTHODS Retrospective,observational cohort study from the Canadian HBV *** collected included demographics,NA,HBV DNA,alanine aminotransferase(ALT),and *** were HBV monoinfected patients,treatment naïve,and received 1 NA with minimum 1 year *** In 465(median 49 years,37%female,35%hepatitis B e antigen+at baseline,84%Asian,6%White,and 9%Black).Percentage of 64(n=299)received TDF and 166 were LAM-treated with similar median duration of 3.9 and 3.7 years,*** mean baseline LSM was 11.2 kPa(TDF)vs 8.3 kPa(LAM)(P=0.003).At 5-year follow-up,the mean LSM was 7.0 kPa in TDF vs 6.7 kPa in LAM(P=0.83).There was a significant difference in fibrosis regression between groups(i.e.,mean-4.2 kPa change in TDF and-1.6 kPa in LAM,Pe last available data on treatment showed that all had normal ALT,but more TDF patients were virologically suppressed(eated(n=35/58,60%)(Pe cleared *** In this real-world North American study,approximately 5 years of NA achieves liver fibrosis regression rarely leads to HBsAg loss.

This work describes a simple yet powerful scalable solution chemistry strategy to create back‐contact rich interfaces between substrates such as commercial transparent conducting fluorine‐doped tin oxide coated glass(FTO)and photoactive thin films such as hematite for low‐cost water oxidation ***‐resolution electron microscopy(SeM,TeM,STeM),atomic force microscopy(AFM),elemental chemical mapping(eeLS,eDS)and photoelectrochemical(PeC)investigations reveal that the mechanical stress,lattice mismatch,electron energy barrier,and voids between FTO and hematite at the back‐contact interface as well as short‐circuit and detrimental reaction between FTO and the electrolyte can be alleviated by engineering the chemical composition of the precursor solutions,thus increasing the overall efficiency of these low‐cost photoanodes for water oxidation reaction for a clean and sustainable generation of hydrogen from PeC water‐*** findings are of significant importance to improve the charge collection efficiency by minimizing electron‐hole recombination observed at back‐contact interfaces and grain boundaries in mesoporous electrodes,thus improving the overall efficiency and scalability of low‐cost PeC water splitting devices.

equipment has been designed and created for experimental simulation of space environment conditions of Geostationary orbit of the earth. The following conditions are supported in the vacuum chamber having volume of 1.2 cubic meters: Vacuum 10-5 Torr. (1.3 × 10-3 Pa), electron beam with energy up to 8 MeV, temperatures from -150°C to +150°C and solar ultraviolet radiation. The peculiarity of this equipment is the possibility of analyzing complex simultaneous influence of mentioned above 4 factors on the sample and in-situ direct measurement of sample parameters under irradiation which provides almost real conditions. Silicon single crystals used in space environment were tested in the vacuum chamber and new results were received having scientific and applied interest. It was shown, particularly, that the electro-conductivity of silicon samples has higher value at in-situ condition than ex-situ after irradiation.

AIM: To show a new paradigm of simultaneously testing whether breast cancer therapies impact other causes of death. MeTHODS: MA.14 allocated 667 postmenopausal women to 5 years of tamoxifen 20 mg/daily ± 2 years of octreotide 90 mg, given by depot intramuscular injections monthly. event-free survival was the primary endpoint of MA.14; at median 7.9 years, the tamoxifen+octreotide and tamoxifen arms had similar event-free survival(P = 0.62). Overall survival was a secondary endpoint, and the two trial arms also had similar overall survival(P = 0.86). We used the median 9.8 years follow-up to examine by intention-to-treat, the multivariate time-to-breast cancer-specific(Br Ca) and other cause(OC) mortality with log-normal survival analysis adjusted by treatment and stratification factors. We tested whether baseline factors including Insulin-like growth factor 1(IGF1), IGF binding protein-3, C-peptide, body mass index, and 25-OH vitamin D were associated with(1) all cause mortality, and if so; and(2) cause-specific mortality. We also fit step-wise forward cause-specific adjusted ***: The analyses were performed on 329 patients allocated tamoxifen and 329 allocated tamoxifen+octreotide. The median age of MA.14 patients was 60.1 years: 447(82%) ears and 120(18%) ≥ 70 years. There were 170 deaths: 106(62.3%) BrC a; 55(32.4%) OC, of which 24 were other malignancies, 31 other causes of death; 9(5.3%) patients with unknown cause of death were excluded from competing risk assessments. BrC a and OC deaths were not significantly different by treatment arm(P = 0.40): tamoxifen patients experienced 50 BrC a and 32 OC deaths, while tamoxifen + octreotide patients experienced 56 Br Ca and 23 OC deaths. Proportionately more deaths(P = 0.004) were from BrC a for patientsears, where 70% of deaths were due to Br Ca, compared to 54% for those ≥ 70 years of age. This article is an extensive review that provides an update on the pathophysiology,symptoms,diagnosis,and treatment of diabetic *** is no reported prevalence,but it has been described that patients with type 1 diabetes have a cumulative incidence at 10 years of 5.2%,and type 2 patients,1%.Also,in the group of type 1 diabetes,it has been observed that women are more likely to present this condition(5.8%vs 3.5%).Many factors are associate with its development(e.g.,hyperglycemia,vagal dysfunction,loss of expression of neural nitric oxide synthase in the myenteric plexus,alterations in the Cajal interstitial cell network,and oxidative stress).Gastrointestinal discomfort could be perceived 70% higher in diabetic patients,describing that 25%of diabetic patients experience gastrointestinal *** enteropathy could affect any portion of the gastrointestinal tract,but esophageal alterations were described in more than 60% of diabetic patients,also 60% of them present constipation,and 20%,*** emptying scintigraphy is useful to evaluate gastroparesis,therefore,gastric retention of more than 60%at 2 h has a sensitivity of 100% and specificity of 20% for diagnosis;however,other studies such as breath tests,with a sensitivity of 89% and a specificity of 80%,or the endoscopic capsule contribute to the *** is no cure;however,management must be multidisciplinary,focused on slowing the progression of diabetic gastroenteropathy,reducing symptoms,and restoring function;that includes nutritional recommendation,maintain glucose levels kept below 180 mg/dL,use of prokinetics,anti-emetics;nowadays,it has been special interest in surgical treatment,such as pyloroplasty,also gastric electrical stimulation appears to be another alternative.

Induction of Necrotizing enterocolitis in Non-Premature Sprague-Dawley Rats and the effect of Administering Breast Milk-Isolated <i>Lactobacillus salivarius</i>LPLM-O1

Due to an increasing incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis (NeC), as well as its associated mortality and long-term complications seen in surviving patients, the main focus of research in NeC has shifted to the prevention and treatment of the disease. The hypothesis of this work is that the strain Lactobacillus salivarius LPLM-O1 can decrease the intestinal injuries in a model of induced NeC. 26 newborn Sprague-Dawley pups were used in this study and randomized in three groups: control group (n = 6), which were fed with infant formula (Similac NeosureTM, Abbott);probiotic group (n = 10), which were fed with the same infant formula but fortified with 109 colony-forming units (CFU) of Lactobacillus salivarius LPLM-O1, and the NeC-induced group (n = 10). each group was fed with 100 μl of food formula every three hours, using a modified syringe. The probiotic and NeC groups were exposed to asphyxia- and cold-induced stress to develop experimental NeC. At the end of the experiment (96 hrs), animals were sacrificed, and their small intestines were carefully removed and evaluated for typical signs of NeC, microbiological count and histological analyses. The histological analysis of the NeC-induced group showed transmural necrosis (grade 4);in the probiotic group, the grade was comparatively lower (grade 2). Survival ratewas higher in the probiotic group (83%) than in the NeC-induced group (46%);however, the difference in not statistically significant (p = 0.14). Lactic acid bacteria counts were higher in the probiotic group than in the NeC-induced group (8.4 × 108 and 6.1 × 107 CFU/intestine tissue gram, respectively). According to these results, the model of artificial induction of NeC was effectively establishedin all pups, and the probiotic strain slightly decreases the injuries’ grade in newborn pups.

essential oils are secondary metabolites whose biological properties have been studied with emphasis on antimicrobial activity. Hyptis carpinifolia Benth (Rosmaninho) is used in folk medicine in the fight against colds and rheumatism. The objective of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the essential oil from H. carpinifolia. The essential oil was extracted by hydrodistillation using a modified Clevenger apparatus. The biological activity was determined using the Agar Cavity Diffusion technique to evaluate the effect of concentrations of 500, 250, 125, 62.5, 31.25, 15.62, 7.81 and 3.9 μg·mL-1 on the bacteria escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella Choleraesuis, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The fungicidal potential was evaluated by the method of dilution in agar, and the percentage inhibition of mycelial growth of Alternaria alternata, Botrytis cinerea and Fusarium oxysporum was evaluated. The dilutions tested were 1000, 750, 500, 250 and 100 μL·L-1. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of the essential oil for L. monocytogenes, S. aureus and e. coli were 31.25;15.62 and 62.5 μg·mL-1, respectively. The MIC was 500 μg·mL-1 for Salmonella Choleraesuis and P. aeruginosa. The percentage inhibitions of mycelial growth of B. cinerea and A. alternate were 67% and 33%, respectively, at the dilution of 750 μL·L-1. The essential oil inhibited about 48% of the mycelial growth of F. oxysporum, at the dilution of 1000 μL·L-1. The essential oil of H. carpinifolia presented biological activity against all the microorganisms evaluated.
