The substantial economic impact of non-healing wounds,scarring,and burns stemming from skin injuries is evident,resulting in a financial burden on both patients and the healthcare *** review paper provides an overview of the skin’s vital role in guarding against various environmental challenges as the body’s largest protective organ and associated developments in biomaterials for wound *** first introduce the composition of skin tissue and the intricate processes of wound healing,with special attention to the crucial role of immunomodulation in both acute and chronic *** highlights how the imbalance in the immune response,particularly in chronic wounds associated with underlying health conditions such as diabetes and immunosuppression,hinders normal healing ***,this review distinguishes between traditional wound-healing strategies that create an optimal microenvironment and recent peptide-based biomaterials that modulate cellular processes and immune responses to facilitate wound ***,we highlight the importance of considering the stages of wounds in the healing *** integrating advanced materials engineering with an in-depth understanding of wound biology,this approach holds promise for reshaping the field of wound management and ultimately offering improved outcomes for patients with acute and chronic wounds.

Vedolizumab use in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases undergoing surgery:clinical trials and post-marketing experience

Background:Patients with inflammatory bowel diseases frequently require surgery,but immunotherapies used in disease management may increase the risk of post-operative *** investigated frequencies of post-operative complications in patients who received vedolizumab—a gut-selective antibody approved for the treatment of moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease—in clinical-trial and post-marketing ***:This post hoc analysis of safety data from GEMINI 1,GEMINI 2,and long-term safety studies included patients who had had colectomy or bowel surgery/*** from the post-marketing Vedolizumab Global Safety Database were also analysed(data cutoff point:19 May 2016).Adverse events relating to post-operative complications were identified using Medical Dictionary for Regulatory Activities preferred ***:Of 58 total surgeries in patients included in GEMINI 1 and GEMINI 2,post-operative complications were reported for 3/51 vedolizumab-treated patients(5.9%)and 1/7 placebo-treated patients(14.3%).In the long-term safety study,157/2,243 patients(7%)had colectomy or bowel surgery/resection;of these 157 patients who underwent surgery,11(7%)experienced a post-operative *** time between last pre-operative vedolizumab dose and surgery was 23 days in GEMINI 1,20 days in GEMINI 2,and 39–40 days in the long-termsafety *** the post-marketing setting,based on data covering approximately 46,978 patient-years of vedolizumab exposure,post-operative complications were reported in 19 ***:In clinical trials,complications of colectomy and bowel surgery/resection appeared infrequent,with minimal difference between vedolizumab and *** frequency of post-operative complications in the post-marketing setting appears low.

Background:Despite the current obesity pandemic,childhood malnutrition remains an urgent,public health *** to the obesity pandemic,childhood malnutrition is influenced by genetic and a number of social,environmental and biological *** this study,we investigated the association between sleep duration and somatic growth in lean ***:A stratified,randomly clustered sampling design was used to select fifth grade students from 10 primary schools in *** on a body mass index below the 15th percentile a subsample of 143 lean children aged 10-11 years old was defi *** duration and other potential confounders were surveyed through parental or self-report *** measurements were collected and used to calculate the Z score of weight,height,body mass index as well as body fat ***:Compared with children who slept<9 hours,those who slept for≥10 hours grew taller and gained more weight after adjusting for confounding *** children slept 9-10 hours,they had signifi cantly higher Z score of weight and body mass ***:Prolonged sleep not only benefi ts weight gain but also improves height in lean *** findings might provide important public health advice such that prolonged sleep may be an effective modifi er of nutritional problems in childhood.

Deep understanding of the impact of photon polarization on pair production is essential for the efficient generation of laser-driven polarized positron beams and demands a complete description of polarization effects in strong-field QED *** fully polarization-resolved Monte Carlo simulations,we investigate correlated photon and electron(positron)polarization effects in the multiphoton Breit–Wheeler pair production process during the interaction of an ultrarelativistic electron beam with a counterpropagating elliptically polarized laser *** show that the polarization of e−e+pairs is degraded by 35%when the polarization of the intermediate photon is resolved,accompanied by an∼13%decrease in the pair ***,in this case,the polarization direction of energetic positrons at small deflection angles can even be reversed when high-energy photons with polarization parallel to the laser electric field are involved.

Myanmar is one of the most biodiverse countries in the Asia-Pacific region due to a wide range of climatic and environmental *** diversity in Myanmar is largely unknown,resulting in a lack of comprehensive conservation *** developed a database of higher plants in Myanmar derived from herbarium specimens and literature sources,and analyzed patterns of diversity inventories and collection inconsistencies,aiming to provide a baseline floristic data of Myanmar and act as a guide for future research *** collected 1,329,354 records of 16,218 *** show that the collection densities at the township level was variable,with 5% of townships having no floristic *** ecoregion had an average collection density of greater than 1 specimen/km2and the lowest collection density was found in the Kayah-karen Montane Rainforests,which covered 8% of Myanmar’s total *** highest sampling densities were found in Mandalay Region,Chin State,and Yangon *** floristic collections over the past three centuries,knowledge of the distribution of the vast majority of plant taxa remained limited,particularly for gymnosperms,pteridophytes,and *** botanical surveys and further analyses are needed to better describe Myanmar’s floristic *** important strategy to promote knowledge of the biodiversity patterns in Myanmar is to improve the collection and digitalization of specimens and to strengthen cooperation among countries.

We conducted a genome-wide linkage scan and positional association study to identify genes and variants influencing blood lipid levels among participants of the Genetic Epidemiology Network of Salt-Sensitivity （GenSalt） study. The GenSalt study was conducted among 1906 participants from 633 Han Chinese families. Lipids were measured from overnight fasting blood samples using standard methods. Multipoint quantitative trait genome-wide linkage scans were performed on the high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, and log- transformed triglyceride phenotypes. Using dense panels of single nucleotide polymorphisms （SNPs）, single-marker and gene-based association analyses were conducted to follow-up on promising linkage signals. Additive associations between each SNP and lipid phenotypes were tested using mixed linear regression models. Gene-based analyses were performed by combining P-values from single- marker analyses within each gene using the truncated product method （TPM）. Significant associations were assessed for replication among 777 Asian participants of the Multi-ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis （MESA）. Bonferroni correction was used to adjust for multiple testing. In the GenSalt study, suggestive linkage signals were identified at 2p11.2-2q12.1 [maximum multipoint LOD score （MML） = 2.18 at 2q11.2] and t lq24.3-11q25 （MML = 2.29 at 11q25） for the log-transformed triglyceride phenotype. Follow-up analyses of these two regions revealed gene-based associations of charged multivesicular body protein 3 （CHMP3）, ring finger protein 103 （RNF103）, AF4/FMR2 family, member 3 （AFF3）, and neurotrirnin （NTM） with triglycerides （P = 4 ×10^-4, 1.00 × 10^-5, 2.00 × 10^-5, and 1.00 × 10^-7, respectively）. Both the AFF3 and NTM triglyceride associations were replicated among MESA study participants（P = 1.00 × 10^-7 and 8.00× 10^-5, respectively）.
