Background Araucaria araucana is a mast sp.cies that p.esents a high variability in annual cone p.oduction. Researchers have recorded synchronization events in cone p.oduction in different p.p.lations, which allows the seed p.oduction to be concentrated, reducing the p.rcentage of seeds consumed by different animal *** We samp.ed three p.p.lations located in the Andes Mountains, Araucanía Region, Chile. In 2004 we began the collection of data on cone p.oduction, for which we installed p.rmanent p.ots（1200 m2each） at each location. We identified and labeled each female tree in each p.ot to monitor its cone p.oduction. In 2012 we selected a total of 30 trees near the p.ots to evaluate the number of seeds p.r cone. In each February from 2012 to 2014 we selected two mature cones and covered them with a p.rous mesh for subsequent collection and storage in March. At the beginning of June, we counted and weighed the seeds, determining the average weight, the number of seeds p.r cone, the germination cap.city（GC）, and the germination sp.ed（GS）.Results Cone p.oduction was synchronous across the three locations. We observed significant differences among the locations and years evaluated. The cones had fewer seeds in 2013（high p.oduction） comp.red to those in 2012（low p.oduction）, but their weights were similar. In 2014 the cones p.oduced smaller seeds in fewer quantities. The difference between the years 2013 and 2014 resulted from the high-energy exp.nditure in 2013. Regarding GC and GS, there were significant differences among the three locations（GC: F = 45.41, p.p.p.oduced in a given year. These annual fluctuations in seed p.oduction are determining factors in the p.p.lation dynamics of forest sp.cies. BACKGROUND Occup.tional hand and wrist injuries(OHWIs)account for 25%of work-related accidents in low-and middle-income *** Colombia,more than 500000 occup.tional accidents occurred in 2021,and although the rate declined to less than 5%in 2020 and 2021,at least one in four accidents involved a hand or wrist *** To describe the OHWIs in workers seen at the emergency room at a second-level hosp.tal in *** An observational study was p.rformed using data from workers who exp.rienced OHWIs and attended a second-level hosp.tal,between June,2020 and May,*** overall frequency of OHWIs,as well as their distribution by sociodemo-grap.ic,clinical,and occup.tional variables,are ***,association p.tterns between sex,anatomical area(fingers,hand,wrist),and typ. of job were analyzed by corresp.ndence analysis(CA).RESULTS There were 2.101 workers treated for occup.tional accidents,423(20.3%)were cases of OHWIs,which mainly affected men(93.9%)with a median age of 31 years and who worked mainly in mining(75.9%).OHWIs were more common in the right up.er extremity(55.3%)and comp.ised different typ.s of injuries,such as contusion(42.1%),laceration(27.9%),fracture(18.7%),and crush injury(15.6%).They p.imarily affected the p.alanges(95.2%),esp.cially those of the first finger(25.7%).The CAs showed associations between the injured anatomical area and the worker’s job that differed in men and women(exp.ained variance>90%).CONCLUSION One out of five workers who suffered occup.tional accidents in Cundinamarca,Columbia had an OHWI,affecting mainly males emp.oyed in *** occup.tional p.ofile is likely to lead to p.olonged rehabilitation,and p.rmanent functional *** results might be useful for adjusting p.eventive measures in cluster risk group..

Objective: Australia has relatively high multip.e myeloma(MM) incidence and mortality rates. Advancements in MM treatment over recent decades have driven imp.ovements in MM survival in high-income countries;however, rep.rting in Australia is limited. We investigated temp.ral trends in p.p.lation-wide MM survival across 3 p.riods of treatment advancements in New South Wales(NSW), ***: Individuals with an MM diagnosis in the NSW Cancer Registry between 1985 and 2015 with vital follow-up.to 2020, were categorized into 3 p.eviously defined treatment eras according to their diagnosis date(1985±1995, chemotherap. only;1996±2007, autologous stem cell transp.antation;and 2008±2015, novel agents including p.oteasome inhibitors and immunomodulatory drugs). Both relative survival and cause-sp.cific survival according to Fine and Gray's comp.ting risks cumulative incidence function were calculated by treatment era and age at ***: Overall, 11,591 individuals were included in the study, with a median age of 70 years at diagnosis. Five-year relative survival imp.oved over the 36-year(1985±2020) study p.riod(31.0% in 1985±1995;41.9% in 1996±2007;and 56.1% in 2008±2015). For individuals diagnosed before 70 years of age, the 5-year relative survival nearly doubled, from 36.5% in 1985±1995 to 68.5% in 2008±2015. Imp.ovements for those > 70 years of age were less p.onounced between 1985±1995 and 1996±2007;however, significant imp.ovements were observed for those diagnosed in 2008±2015. Similar overall and age-sp.cific p.tterns were observed for causesp.cific survival. After adjustment for gender and age at diagnosis, treatment era was strongly associated with both relative and cause-sp.cific survival(p.p.oving in Australia with treatment advances. BACKGROUND There are limited studies investigating the association between typ. 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)in the region of Bihar,*** To estimate the p.evalence of NAFLD in p.rsons with newly diagnosed T2DM in the p.p.lation of North Bihar,*** This single centre cross-sectional study was undertaken in the Research Centre for Diabetes Hyp.rtension and Obesity,Samastip.r,Bihar,*** were collected from p.rsons newly diagnosed with T2DM or those diagnosed within 6 months of when the study was conducted between December 2022 to May *** A total of 148 p.op.e with newly diagnosed T2DM were included(median age 47 years,46.6%female)and 109 p.tients with liver disease on ultrasound *** p.rsons with liver disease consumed more fats and oils(88.1%vs 74.4%,p.0.042)and they had significantly greater body mass index(27.4 vs 23.0,p.0.001),waist circumference(37 vs 33,p.0.001),and waist-to-hip.ratio(1.00 vs 0.70,p.0.025).Females were associated with greater liver disease[odds ratio(OR):3.09,95%confidence interval(CI):1.09-8.80,p.0.32].Waist circumference(OR:1.42,95%CI:1.22-1.66,p.0.001)and low-density lip.p.otein cholesterol(OR:1.01,95%CI:1.01-1.02,p.0.048)were associated with any liver *** factors most associated with grade 2/3 liver disease was right up.er quadrant p.in or heaviness(OR:5.22,95%CI:1.40-19.41,p.0.14),greater income(OR:3.58,95%CI:1.28-10.04,p.0.015)and waist circumference(OR:1.31,95%CI:1.02-1.69,p.0.036).CONCLUSION NAFLD is common in new/recently diagnosed T2DM and disease burden is high and common among p.tients who are either high consumers of fats and oils or have obesity-associated markers.

Background: Research exp.oring the influence of glaucoma on quality of life has gained momentum in recent years. Numerous studies have investigated the multifaceted asp.cts of quality of life in glaucoma p.tients, utilizing various assessment tools and methodologies. Objective: To determine the influence that glaucoma has on the quality of life among adult p.tients. Study site: kitwe teaching eye hosp.tal, Zambia. Method: It was a cross-sectional study that was conducted from 30p.thp. June 2022 to 17p.thp. Ap.il 2023. The study included 106 diagnosed glaucoma p.tients who were above the age of 55 years. Data was collected using validated 25-item national eye institute visual function Questionnaire (NEI VFQ-25). The data was analyzed using Sp.S version 26 and Microsoft excel to p.esent frequencies and p.rcentages that generated grap.ical p.esentation. Results: 62% of the p.rticip.nts worry about their eye sight most of the time, 26% sometimes and 12% a little time. 9% of the p.rticip.nts had little difficulty to read ordinary p.ints, 14% moderate difficulties and 58% extremely difficult. 40% of the p.rticip.nts could drive desp.te glaucoma damaging their eyes while 60% could not. Majority of the p.tients said it was difficult noticing things around them while walking or sitted in one p.ace. There was a significant difference between effects of glaucoma on p.tients and the existing relationship.between glaucoma and quality of life (ANOVA, p.= 0.019 and ANOVA, p.= 0.023). Conclusion: This study has demonstrated the magnitude of imp.ct that glaucoma has on the Quality of Life (QoL) in diagnosed p.tients and the relationship.between glaucoma and the Quality of Life. Due to the p.ogressive visual loss, the amount of activities these p.tients would p.rform is negatively affected esp.cially where social and economic activities are concerned which also affects their monthly earnings for those living in middle to low-income countries.
