Meat juice contributes to the stability of ethanol adaptation in Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis

Stability assessme nt of observed tolerance phe no types is integral in un dersta nding stress adaptati on in food-borne ***,the current work was carried out to determine whether ethanol adaptation induced by exposure to 5 percent ethanol for 60 min is a stable phenomenon in Salmonella enterica serovar *** capacity of Salmonella Enteritidis(***)to maintain the acquired ethanol adaptation in the absenee of sublethal ethanol stress was investigated at 37℃,25℃ or 4℃ in Luria-Bertani broth and two types of meat *** was found that ethanol adaptation was completely reversed within 40 min at 37℃ or within 60 min at 25℃,but was stable at 4℃ for at least 48 h in the broth *** adaptation was retained in chicken juice during 60-min incubation at 25℃ or 48h incubation at 4℃.Moreover,exposure to pork juice stored at either 25℃ or 4℃ sigrdficantly(P<0.05)increased the ethanol toleranee of ethanol-adapted ***,these fin dings suggest that ethanol adaptation stability in *** teritidis under cold conditi ons and in meat juices should be take n into acco unt whe n con ducting a comprehensive risk analysis during food processing.

Clinical utility of glycated albumin and 1,5-anhydroglucitol in the screening and prediction of diabetes:A multi-center study

BACKGROUND Despite being the gold standard,the use of glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c)and fasting plasma glucose(FPG)for diagnosing dysglycemia is *** particular,a low level of agreement between HbA1c and FPG in detecting prediabetes and diabetes has led to difficulties in clinical *** albumin(GA)and 1,5-anhydroglucitol(1,5-AG)may potentially serve as biomarkers for the detection and prediction of diabetes,as well as glycemic *** To explore the diagnostic performance of GA and 1,5-AG for screening dysglycemia;assess whether they can be used for glycemic monitoring in Chinese morbidly-obese patients;and examine their predictive ability for incident diabetes in a Chinese community-based *** GA and 1,5-AG concentrations were measured in 462 morbidly-obese patients from the Obese Chinese Cohort(OCC).A sub-group of diabetes subjects(n=24)was prospectively followed-up after bariatric *** between baseline and post-surgery biomarker values were converted to percentage change from baseline to assess the response to glycemic *** ability of the biomarkers was assessed in 132 incident diabetes cases and 132 matched non-diabetes controls in the community-based Cardiovascular Risk Factor Prevalence Study(CRISPS).A prediction model was developed and compared with clinical models based on conventional risk *** GA exhibited an excellent diagnostic value with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC)of 0.919(95%CI:0.884-0.955)for identifying diabetes and a high agreement in the classification of diabetes with both FPG and HbA1c in the *** demonstrated the fastest response to glycemic *** CRISPS,the‘B3A’prediction model,which consisted of body mass index(BMI)and 3 biomarkers(HbA1c,GA and 1,5-AG),achieved a comparable predictive value[AUC(95%CI):0.793(0.744-0.843)]to that of a clinical model comprising BMI,HbA1c,FPG and 2-hour glucose(2hG)[AUC(95%CI):0.783(0.733-0.834)

Background:Despite considerable advances in preoperative imaging,up to one-third of patients operatively explored for hepatic colorectal metastases are unexpectedly found to harbor unresectable intrahepatic or extrahepatic ***:The current study is a prospective,blinded study comparing utility of[18F]2-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography(18F-FDG-PET)to computed tomography(CT)and CT arterial portography(CTAP)as preoperative ***:The 125 planned subjects were *** seen on FDG-PET alone changed therapy for 23 of 125 patients(18%).FDG-PET confirmed other radiologic findings in 16 cases(13%),for an overall influence on therapy in 39 cases(31%).FDG-PET was the most sensitive diagnostic imaging test for extrahepatic cancer;it was 80-90%sensitive for extrahepatic cancer and 70-90%*** the 28 cases of unresectable disease due to extrahepatic disease,FDG-PET findings solely changed therapies in 16 cases(57%)and influenced therapy in seven other cases(25%).Of the 21 unresectable cases due to extent of intrahepatic disease,FDG-PET did not solely change therapy in ***,FDG-PET had the lowest sensitivity for hepatic sites compared with CT or *** particular,small(<1 cm)liver tumors were particularly poorly detected by *** area under the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve for small tumors was 0.58 and for patients on chemotherapy it was 0.66,a modest improvement over no ***:FDG-PET is an important test for preoperative staging of patients with hepatic colorectal metastases,affecting treatment decisions in nearly one-third of *** high yield is due mainly to detection of extrahepatic *** is therefore recommended in patients with extrahepatic lesions suspected to be disseminated cancer or those with high risk for extrahepatic *** is not a good test for identification of small tumors in the liver.
