We present a novel method to rapidly assess drug efficacy in targeted cancer therapy,where antineoplastic agents are conjugated to antibodies targeting surface markers on tumor *** have fabricated and characterized a device capable of rapidly assessing tumor cell sensitivity to drugs using multifrequency impedance spectroscopy in combination with supervised machine learning for enhanced classification *** commercially available devices for the automated analysis of cell viability are based on staining,which fundamentally limits the subsequent characterization of these cells as well as downstream molecular *** approach requires as little as 20μL of volume and avoids staining allowing for further downstream molecular *** the best of our knowledge,this manuscript presents the first comprehensive attempt to using high-dimensional data and supervised machine learning,particularly phase change spectra obtained from multi-frequency impedance cytometry as features for the support vector machine classifier,to assess viability of cells without staining or labelling.

We aimed to determine short-term patient-reported outcomes in men having general anesthetic transperineal （TP） prostate biopsies. A prospective cohort study was performed in men having a diagnostic TP biopsy. This was done using a validated and adapted questionnaire immediately post-biopsy and at follow-up of between 7 and 14 days across three tertiary referral hospitals with a response rate of 51.6%. Immediately after biopsy 43/201 （21.4%） of men felt light-headed, syncopal, or suffered syncope. Fifty-three percent of men felt discomfort after biopsy （with 95% scoring 〈5 in a 0-10 scale）. Twelve out of 196 men （6.1%） felt pain immediately after the procedure. Despite a high incidence of symptoms （e.g., up to 75% had some hematuria, 47% suffered some pain）, it was not a moderate or serious problem for most, apart from hemoejaculate which 31 men suffered. Eleven men needed catheterization （5.5%）. There were no inpatient admissions due to complications （hematuria, sepsis）. On repeat questioning at a later time point, only 25/199 （12.6%） of men said repeat biopsy would be a significant problem despite a significant and marked reduction in erectile function after the procedure. From this study, we conclude that TP biopsy is well tolerated with similar side effect profiles and attitudes of men to repeat biopsy to men having TrUS biopsies. These data allow informed counseling of men prior to TP biopsy and a benchmark for tolerability with local anesthetic TP biopsies being developed for clinical use.

Distribution and Habitat Preference of red Panda (<i>Ailurus fulgens fulgens</i>) in Jumla District, Nepal

reliable and sufficient information regarding status, distribution and habitat preference of red panda (Ailurus fulgens fulgens) is lacking in Nepal. The research activities on red panda in the mid-western Nepal are very limited, so the status of red panda in the region is quite unknown. The study conducted during May, 2013 in three Village Development Committees (VDCs) namely Godhemahadev, Malikathata and Tamti of Jumla district was an important step for providing vital information including distribution and habitat preference of this species. The study included the reconnaissance, key informants survey, interviews and consultation for the most potential area identification, opportunistic survey comprising the direct observation and indirect sign count method for the presence and distribution, habitat assessment consisting vegetation sampling and ocular estimation. The study revealed the presence of red panda in three forests namely Bahirepatan, Imilchadamar and Tyakot of Godhemahadev, Tamti and Malikathata VDCs respectively. The species was found distributed between 2880 and 3244 m with an average dropping encounter rate of 1.04 per hour of searching effort and 12 pellets per dropping. red panda mostly preferred the habitat in the elevation range of 2900 - 3000 m with southwest facing steep slopes (36? - 45?), associated with water sources at the distance of ≤100 m. Trees such as Acer spp., Betula utilis and Quercus semecarpifolia, shrub species of Elaeagnus parvifolia, Drepanostachyum spp. and Jasminum humile, and the herbs like Polygonatum cirrhifolium, Fragaria nubicola and Galium asperifolium were found to be the most preferred species by red panda. The red panda preferred the habitat with dense crown coverage (>20% - 100%) and 31% - 50% ground cover. Fallen logs (39%) were the most preferred substrate used for defecation.

Weeds normally grow in patches and spatially distributed in field. Patch spraying to control weeds has advantages of chemical saving, reduced cost and environmental pollution. Advent of electro-optical sensing capabilities has paved the way of using machine vision technologies for patch spraying. Machine vision system has to acquire and process digital images to make control decisions. Proper identification and classification of objects present in image holds the key to make control decisions and use of any spraying operation performed. recognition of objects in digital image may be affected by background, intensity, image resolution, orientation of the object and geometrical characteristics. A set of 16, including 11 shape and 5 texture-based parameters coupled with predictive discriminating analysis has been used to identify the weed leaves. Geometrical features were indexed successfully to eliminate the effect of object orientation. Linear discriminating analysis was found to be more effective in correct classification of weed leaves. The classification accuracy of 69% to 80% was observed. These features can be utilized for development of image based variable rate sprayer.

In recent papers, Surana et al. presented internal polar non-classical Continuum theory in which velocity gradient tensor in its entirety was incorporated in the conservation and balance laws. Thus, this theory incorporated symmetric part of the velocity gradient tensor (as done in classical theories) as well as skew symmetric part representing varying internal rotation rates between material points which when resisted by deforming continua result in dissipation (and/or storage) of mechanical work. This physics referred as internal polar physics is neglected in classical continuum theories but can be quite significant for some materials. In another recent paper Surana et al. presented ordered rate constitutive theories for internal polar non-classical fluent continua without memory derived using deviatoric Cauchy stress tensor and conjugate strain rate tensors of up to orders n and Cauchy moment tensor and its conjugate symmetric part of the first convected derivative of the rotation gradient tensor. In this constitutive theory higher order convected derivatives of the symmetric part of the rotation gradient tensor are assumed not to contribute to dissipation. Secondly, the skew symmetric part of the velocity gradient tensor is used as rotation rates to determine rate of rotation gradient tensor. This is an approximation to true convected time derivatives of the rotation gradient tensor. The resulting constitutive theory: (1) is incomplete as it neglects the second and higher order convected time derivatives of the symmetric part of the rotation gradient tensor;(2) first convected derivative of the symmetric part of the rotation gradient tensor as used by Surana et al. is only approximate;(3) has inconsistent treatment of dissipation due to Cauchy moment tensor when compared with the dissipation mechanism due to deviatoric part of symmetric Cauchy stress tensor in which convected time derivatives of up to order n are considered in the theory. The US Navy VLF/LF Transmitter’s NSY signal (45.9 kHz) transmitted from Niscemi, Sicily, Italy, and received at the Kiel Long Wave Monitor, Germany, was analyzed for the period of two months, May and June (EQ-month) of 2013. There were 12 earthquakes of magnitude greater than 4 that hit Italy in these two months,?of which the earthquake of 21st June having magnitude of 5.2?and a shallow focal depth of 5 km was the major one. We studied the earthquake of 21st of June 2013, which struck Tuscany,?Central Italy, (44.1713°N and?10.2082°E) at 10:33 UT, and also analyzed the effects of this earthquake on the?sub-ionos-?pheric VLF/LF signals. In addition, we also studied another earthquake, of magnitude 4.9, which hit the same place at 14:40 UT on 30th of June and had shallow focal depth of 10 km. We assessed the data using terminator time (TT) method and night time fluctuation method and found unusual changes in VLF/LF amplitudes/phases. Analysis of trend, night time dispersion, and night time fluctuation was also carried and several anomalies were detected. Most ionospheric perturbations in these parameters were found in the month?of June, from few days to few weeks prior to the earthquakes. Moreover, we filtered the possible effects due to geomagnetic storms, auroras, and solar activities?using parameters like?Dst index, AE index, and Kp index for analyzing the geomagnetic effects,?and Bz (sigma) index, sunspot numbers, and solar index F10.7 for analyzing the solar activities for the confirmation of anomalies as precursors.

This paper presents derivation of a priori error estimates and convergence rates of finite element processes for boundary value problems (BVPs) described by self adjoint, non-self adjoint, and nonlinear differential operators. A posteriori error estimates are discussed in context with local approximations in higher order scalar product spaces. A posteriori error computational framework (without the knowledge of theoretical solution) is presented for all BVPs regardless of the method of approximation employed in constructing the integral form. This enables computations of local errors as well as the global errors in the computed finite element solutions. The two most significant and essential aspects of the research presented in this paper that enable all of the features described above are: 1) ensuring variational consistency of the integral form(s) resulting from the methods of approximation for self adjoint, non-self adjoint, and nonlinear differential operators and 2) choosing local approximations for the elements of a discretization in a subspace of a higher order scalar product space that is minimally conforming, hence ensuring desired global differentiability of the approximations over the discretizations. It is shown that when the theoretical solution of a BVP is analytic, the a priori error estimate (in the asymptotic range, discussed in a later section of the paper) is independent of the method of approximation or the nature of the differential operator provided the resulting integral form is variationally consistent. Thus, the finite element processes utilizing integral forms based on different methods of approximation but resulting in VC integral forms result in the same a priori error estimate and convergence rate. Epithelial-Myoepithelial Carcinoma of Parotid Gland—A Surprising Clinical Entity

Objective: Objective of this study is to highlight the importance of considering clinical and radiological findings in parotid tumors before operating tumors with high suspicion of malignancy though reported as benign on histopathology. Material and Methods: 20 years old female patient underwent radical parotidectomy for epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma of the left parotid gland which was diagnosed on FNAC. Contrast CT and contrast MrI also showed a tumor involving left parotid gland with destruction of ramus of mandible and loss of tissue planes medially & laterally. Facial nerve was infiltrated by tumor, thus sacrificed. Post operatively, patient had left facial palsy and was discharged after 7 days without any other sequelae. Postoperative histopathology showed pleomorphic adenoma with positive resection margins medially, superiorly & posteriorly. No further treatment was given in view of the benign nature of the tumor. results: Patient was kept on monthly follow up and was disease free at one year follow up. Conclusion: Aggressive surgical treatment should be planned for malignant parotid tumors to give a better tumor free survival. Misdiagnosis can occur on FNAC as it can hit only one part of the tumor thus missing a malignant tumor or can interpret pleomorphic adenoma as epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma.
