Objective:To investigate the efficacy of frankincense and myrrha in the treatment of acute interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome(IC/PBS).Methods:The effects of frankincense and myrrha on the proliferation and migration of primary human urothelial cells(HUCs)were assessed in *** the animal study,48 virgin female rats were randomized into 4 groups(12 in each group):(1)control group(saline-injected control);(2)cyclophosphamide(CYP)group(intraperitoneal injected 150 mg/kg CYP);(3)CYP+pentosan polysulfate sodium group(orally received 50 mg/kg pentosan polysulfate sodium);and(4)CYP+frankincense and myrrha group[orally received frankincense(200 mg/kg)and myrrha(200 mg/kg)].Rats orally received pentosan polysulfate sodium or frankincense and myrrha on day 1,2,and *** experiments were performed on day *** and cystometry assessment behavior test were *** interval values were assessed in rats under ***,immunohistochemistry and Western blot were used to confirm the location and level,respectively,of cell junction-associated protein zonula occludens-2(ZO-2)***:Low dose frankincense and myrrha increased cell proliferation and migration in HUCs compared with control(P<0.05).Rats with acute IC/PBS rats exhibited lower voiding interval values,pain tolerance,and ZO-2 expression(P<0.05).Voiding interval values and pain tolerance were higher in the frankincense and myrrha group than CYP group(P<0.05).ZO-2 expression in the bladder was increased in the CYP+pentosan polysulfate and frankincense+myrrha groups compared with the CYP-induced acute IC/PBS group(P<0.05).Conclusion:frankincense and myrrha modulate urothelial wound healing,which ameliorates typical features of acute IC/PBS in rats.

Capacitive sensing technique for silt suspended sediment concentration monitoring

Automated, real-time, and continuous techniques for monitoring suspended sediment concentration in rivers and reservoirs can play an important role in the improvement of the quantity and quality of sediment data, and are valuable to the management of water environment, water conservancy, hazard prevention, and water resources. Research in the monitoring techniques has examined the possibility of using the characteristics of dielectric constants for detecting soil moisture and concentration of air-water two-phase flow, based on the fact that dielectric constants of sediment, air and water are different. A capacitance sensor was developed to monitor the silt suspended sediment concentration (SSSC) in a recent study, following the principle that as SSSC increases in the sediment-water mixture, the apparent dielectric constant of the water sample also increases and therefore the capacitance detected by the sensing system also increases. It is demonstrated that the variations in the concentration of silt sediment correlates positively with the variations in observed capacitance in a linear fashion, and correlates negatively with voltage outputs but also in a linear fashion. The correlation coefficients reached above 0.98. The overall errors in estimated concentrations range between 0.26% and 2.91%. Elements in the capacitance sensor system such as the frequencies of the signal generating system, areas of the electrode plates, and effects of sample temperature have also been evaluated. The results illustrated that the capacitance sensor techniques can be applied to monitoring SSSC automatically and continuously. Also, the range of SSSC in the experiment reached 200 kg/m3; therefore, the application of this technique in practical SSSC monitoring is worthy of further research.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)is one of the fastest growing public health concerns around the ***-sweetened beverage(SSB)consumption has been proven to be associated with adverse health consequences in the diabetic *** SSB consumption,body weight control,healthy diets,and increased physical activity have been suggested as strategies to improve diabetes prevention and *** literature review provides an overview of:(1)The association between SSB consumption and the risk of T2DM;(2)Types of SSB consumption and T2DM;(3)The effect of obesity and inflammation on the association between SSB consum-ption and risk of T2DM;and(4)SSB consumption in T2DM *** is still work to be done to determine how SSB consumption is related to T2DM,but the current research on identifying the association between SSB consumption and T2DM is promising,with the most promising studies confirming the connection between SSBs,T2DM risk,and diabetes *** studies should explore more effective SSB related diabetes prevention and management interventions.

Vibration Analysis of a 51-Story Tower from the Recorded Data of the Earthquake, Typhoon and Ambient Vibration

This study uses the in-structure recordings to investigate the vibration characteristics of a 51-story steel high-rise building in response to a major earthquake, typhoon and ambient vibrations. This presents an opportunity for us to compare the building behaviors, especially their modal properties under different types of excitation. First, we use a two-stage regression procedure to obtain the relations of the building response, including peak floor acceleration and velocity as a function of the wind speed and floor height of the building. Secondly, the structural dynamic characteristics of the high rise building, including the transfer functions and natural frequencies, excited by the Chi-Chi earthquake, Typhoon Aere, and ambient vibrations are also determined and compared. As a result, from the formulas for building response, the predicted peak floor acceleration is higher in the lateral (EW) component than in the longitudinal (NS) component. This is probably due to the greater stiffness of the building in the longitudinal direction than in the lateral direction. In addition, after having identified the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd natural frequencies using the recorded data from the earthquake, typhoon and ambient vibrations, the ranking of the fundamental natural frequencies from low to high is the Chi-Chi earthquake, Typhoon Aere and the ambient vibrations. This means that greater excitation forces of the earthquake have resulted in lower natural frequencies than that produced by the typhoon and ambient vibrations.

Background:Surface-Enhanced Laser Desorption/ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry ProtienChip system(SELDI-TOF-MS)is a frequent used technique for cancer biomarkers *** specificity of biomarkers detected from SELDI can be influenced by coexistent with inflammatory *** study aimed to increase the detection accuracy by a two-stage analysis ***:Serums from 118 lung cancer patients,72 healthy individuals and 31 inflammatory disease patients were divided into training group and testing group randomly by 3:2 *** stage training method use SELDI profiles analysis to form a decision making tree to directly distinguish lung cancer patients from all the serum in the training *** twostage analysis is to increase the steps of partitioning analysis from distinguishing the healthy people and non-healthy patients(1st-stage)and then differentiating cancer patients from inflammatory disease patients(2nd-stage)to minimize the influence of inflammation.A decision tree by combination of this two-stage training process was validated in the test *** the test group,one stage method has 87.2%sensitivity,37.5%specificity and 64.4%*** two-stage method has lower sensitivity(>70,1%),but higher specificity(80%)and accuracy(74.7%)with statistically *** predominately expressed protein peak at 11480 Da was the primary splitter regardless one-stage or two-stage *** peak was most likely to be SAA(Serum Amyloid A)with average m/z countered around this *** significance of this important primary splitter was further confirmed by ELISA ***:The inflammatory disease severely interfere the detection accuracy of lung cancer by SELDI *** a two-stage training process will improve the specificity and accuracy in detection of lung cancer.
