Mitochondria-targeting drug conjugates for cytotoxic, anti-oxidizing and sensing purposes:current strategies and future perspectives

mitochondrial-targeting moieties to anticancer drugs, antioxidants and sensor molecules. Among them, the most widely applied mitochondrial targeting moiety is triphenylphosphonium(TPP), which is a delocalized cationic lipid that readily accumulates and penetrates through the mitochondrial membrane due to the highly negative mitochondrial membrane potential. Other moieties, including short peptides,dequalinium, guanidine, rhodamine, and F16, are also known to be promising mitochondrial targeting agents. Direct conjugation of mitochondrial targeting moieties to anticancer drugs, antioxidants and sensors results in increased cytotoxicity, anti-oxidizing activity and sensing activity, respectively,compared with their non-targeting counterparts, especially in drug-resistant cells. Although many mitochondria-targeted anticancer drug conjugates have been investigated in vitro and in vivo, further clinical studies are still needed. On the other hand, several mitochondria-targeting antioxidants have been analyzed in clinical phases I, II and III trials, and one conjugate has been approved for treating eye disease in Russia. There are numerous ongoing studies of mitochondria-targeted sensors.

Study on wear behavior of plasma electrolytic oxidation coatings on aluminum alloy

Thick and hard ceramic coatings were fabricated on A356 aluminum alloy by using plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO) technique. The microstructure and phase composition of the PEO coatings were examined by using SEM and XRD method. It is found that the PEO coatings are mainly composed of crystalline α-Al2O3 and mullite. The dry sliding wear test of PEO coatings were carried out on a ring-on-ring wear machine. Results shows that there is hardly no wear loss of polished PEO coatings while the wear rate of uncoated aluminum alloy is 4.3×10-5 mm3·(N·m)-1 at a speed of 0.52 m·s-1 and a load of 40 N.

Pathophysiology after pancreaticoduodenectomy

Pancreaticoduodenectomy （PD） will result in removalof important multiorgans in upper intestinal tract andsubsequently secondary physiologic change. In thepast, surgeons just focused on the safety of surgicalprocedure; however, PD is regarded as safe and widelyapplied to treatment of periampullary lesions. Practicalissues after PD, such as, effect of duodenectomy,metabolic surgery-like effect, alignment effect ofgastrointestinal continuity, and non-alcoholic fatty liverdisease were summarized and discussed.

Analyses on performances of heat and multilayer reflection insulators

This research was conducted to study the performances of the heat and multilayer reflection insulators used for buildings in South Korea to realize eco-friendly, low-energy-consumption, green construction, and to contribute to energy consumption reduction in buildings and to the nation＇s greenhouse gas emission reduction policy （targeting 30% reduction compared to BAUCousiness as usual） by 2020）. The heat insulation performance test is about the temperatures on surfaces of test piece. The high air temperature and the low air temperature were measured to determine the overall heat transfer coefficient and thermal conductivity. The conclusions are drawn that the heat transmission coefficients for each type of existing reflection insulator are： A-1 （0.045 W/（m-K））, A-2 （0.031 W/（m.K））, A-3 （0.042 W/（m.K））, A-4 （0.078 W/（m.K））, and the average heat conductivity is 0.049 W/（m-K）; The heat conductivity for each type of Styrofoam insulator are 0.030 W/（m.K） for B-l, 0.032 W/（m-K） for B-2, 0.037 W/（m＇K） for B-3, 0.037 W/（m.K） for B-4, and the average heat conductivity is 0.035 W/（m＇K） regardless of the thickness of the insulator; The heat conductivity values of the multilayer reflection insulators are converted based on the thickness and type C-1 （0.020 W/（m.K））, C-2 （0.018 W/（m.K））, C-3 （0.016 W/（m.K））, and C-4 （0.012 W/（m.K））; The multilayer reflection insulator keeps the indoor-side surface temperature high （during winter） or low （in summer）, enhances the comfort of the building occupants, and conducts heating and moisture resistance to prevent dew condensation on the glass-outer-wall surface.

Minimally invasive distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy has been regarded as a safe and effective treatment for benign and borderline malignant pancreatic ***,its application for left-sided pancreatic cancer is still being *** clinical evidence for radical antegrade modular pancreatosplenectomy(RAMPS)-based minimally invasive approaches for leftsided pancreatic cancer was *** indications and surgical concepts for minimally invasive RAMPS were *** the limited clinical evidence for minimally invasive distal pancreatectomy in left-sided pancreatic cancer,the currently available clinical evidence supports the use of laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy under oncologic principles in wellselected left sided pancreatic cancers.A pancreasconfined tumor with an intact fascia layer between the pancreas and left adrenal gland/kidney positioned more than 1 or 2 cm away from the celiac axis is thought to constitute a good condition for the use of margin-negative minimally invasive *** use of minimally invasive(laparoscopic or robotic)anterior RAMPS is feasible and safe for margin-negative resection in wellselected left-sided pancreatic *** oncologic feasibility of the procedure remains to be determined;however,the currently available interim results indicate that even oncologic outcomes will not be inferior to those of open radical distal pancreatosplenectomy.

Minimally invasive vs open pancreatectomy for nonfunctioning pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors

BACKGROUND The mainstay of treating nonfunctioning-pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors(NFPNETs)is surgical ***,minimally invasive approaches to pancreatic resection for treating NF-PNETs are not widely accepted,and the longterm oncological outcomes of such approaches remain *** To determine the short-and long-term outcomes of minimally invasive pancreatic resection conducted in patients with *** Prospective databases from Severance Hospital were searched for 110 patients who underwent curative resection for NF-PNETs between January 2003 and August *** The proportion of minimally invasive surgery(MIS)procedures performed for NF-PNET increased to more than 75%after *** was no significant difference in post-operative complications(P=0.654),including pancreatic fistula(P=0.890)and delayed gastric emptying(P=0.652),between MIS and open *** statistically significant difference was found in disease-free survival between the open approach group and the MIS group(median follow-up period,28.1 mo;P=0.428).In addition,the surgical approach(MIS vs open)was not found to be an independent prognostic factor in treating NF-PNET patients[Exp(β)=1.062;P=0.929].CONCLUSION Regardless of the type of surgery,a minimally invasive approach can be safe and feasible for select NF-PNET patients.

Preoperative defining system for pancreatic head cancer considering surgical resection

AIM: To provide appropriate treatment, it is crucial to share the clinical status of pancreas head cancer among multidisciplinary treatment ***: A retrospective analysis of the medical records of 113 patients who underwent surgery for pancreas head cancer from January 2008 to December 2012 was performed. We developed preoperative defining system of pancreatic head cancer by describing “resectability - tumor location - vascular relationship - adjacent organ involvement - preoperative CA19-9 (initial bilirubin level) - vascular anomaly”. The oncologic correlations with this reporting system were ***: Among 113 patients, there were 75 patients (66.4%) with resectable, 34 patients (30.1%) with borderline resectable, and 4 patients (3.5%) with locally advanced pancreatic cancer. Mean disease-free survival was 24.8 mo (95%CI: 19.6-30.1) with a 5-year disease-free survival rate of 13.5%. Pretreatment tumor size ≥ 2.4 cm [Exp(B) = 3.608, 95%CI: 1.512-8.609, P = 0.044] and radiologic vascular invasion [Exp(B) = 5.553, 95%CI: 2.269-14.589, P = 0.002] were independent predictive factors for neoadjuvant treatment. Borderline resectability [Exp(B) = 0.222, P = 0.008], pancreatic head cancer involving the pancreatic neck [Exp(B) = 9.461, P = 0.001] and arterial invasion [Exp(B) = 6.208, P = 0.010], and adjusted CA19-9 ≥ 50 [Exp(B) = 1.972 P = 0.019] were identified as prognostic clinical factors to predict tumor ***: The suggested preoperative defining system can help with designing treatment plans and also predict oncologic outcomes.

以铝基复合材料作为列车制动盘材料的实用化为目的，选用A356／SIC 20％（体积分数，下同）复合材料和AISI D2工具钢为摩擦材料，以中速列车实用中的有机闸片为对偶材料，进行对比干摩擦磨损试验，并分析比较了磨损特性。结果表明：铝基复合材料在小于200Y（3．98MPa）的低载荷下，只存在轻微的氧化磨损，耐磨性比实用中的铁合金材料更好；而超过该载荷时。开始发生磨削磨损，磨损量逐步超过铁合金材料，当载荷达到400N（7．96MPa）时，由于严重的磨削磨损，磨损量剧增。而铁合金材料则随载荷和滑动速度增加，磨损率缓慢增加；磨损过程中的复合材料的摩擦系数平均值与载荷、滑动速度无关，始终保持0．3～0．4，同时随磨损距离的波动也非常小，而工具钢的摩擦系数平均值则对试验参数的敏感度相对大些，且摩擦系数平均值也比复合材料略小，即摩擦系数方面复合材料具有更好的特性。

选用A356/SiC复合材料与Semi-metallic pad材料进行干滑动摩擦磨损试验,并采用SEM、XRD、EDS等手段分析了复合材料的摩擦磨损特点及磨损机制。铝基复合材料与该pad间表现出非常出色的耐摩擦磨损特性,在1m/s的低滑动速度下,即使载荷增加到700N也几乎不发生磨损;载荷不大于500N时,磨损率与滑动速度无关,保持非常小的范围。只有在高载荷、高滑动速度下才会有较为明显的磨损。摩擦系数则随载荷增大产生无规则变化,而随滑动速度的增加而减少,但变化幅度在0.1之内。复合材料耐磨特性好的主要原因是,磨损过程中磨损面上迅速形成以氧化物和石墨为主的润滑膜,减少磨损。高载荷、高滑动速度下磨损的主要特点为,复合材料表层形成塑性流动层,大的塑性流动变形使得较软的铝合金基体沿磨损方向以片状形式挤出,形成特殊的磨屑。而不易变形的SiC颗粒则留在磨损面上形成SiC聚集区,该区域又能在一定程度上减少进一步的磨损。
