The gamma quanta attenuation studies have been carried out to determine mass attenuation coefficients of 7041, 7075 and 7095 wrought aluminum alloys. The temperature dependence of linear attenuation coefficient, density and thermal expansion of these wrought aluminum alloys in the temperature range 300 K - 850 K have been reported. The measurements were done by using a gamma ray densitometer designed and fabricated in our laboratory. The data on variation of density and linear thermal expansion with temperature have been represented by linear equations. Volume thermal expansion coefficients have been reported.

The γ-ray densitometer has been designed and fabricated in our laboratory and carried out studies on temperature dependent γ-ray attenuation and thermo physical properties of NaCl, NaBr and NaF. The linear attenuation coefficients (μl) for the pellets of NaCl, NaBr and NaF as a function of temperature have been determined. The coefficients of temperature dependence of density have been reported. The variation of density and thermal expansion of NaCl, NaBr and NaF in the temperature range of 300 K - 1000 K have been studied and compared with results available in the literature. The temperature dependence of density and thermal expansion has been represented by linear equations. Volume thermal expansion coefficients have been reported.

This paper describes results of seam welding of relatively high temperature melting materials, AISI 304, C-Mn steels, Ni-based alloys, CP Cu, CP Ni, Ti6Al4V and relatively low temperature melting material, AA6061. It describes the seam welding of multi-layered similar and dissimilar metallic sheets. The method described and involved advancing a rotating non-consumable rod(CP Mo or AISI 304) toward the upper sheet of a metallic stack clamped under pressure. As soon as the distal end of the rod touched the top portion of the upper metallic sheet, an axial force was applied. After an initial dwell time, the metallic stack moved horizontally relative to the stationery non-consumable rod by a desired length, thereby forming a metallurgical bond between the metallic sheets. Multi-track and multi-metal seam welds of high temperature metallic sheets, AISI 304, C-Mn steel,Nickel-based alloys, Cp Cu, Ti6Al4V and low temperature metallic sheets, AA6061 were obtained. Optical and scanning electron microscopy examination and 180 degree U-bend test indicated that defect free seam welds could be obtained with this method. Tensile- shear testing showed that the seam welds of AISI 304, C-Mn steel, Nickel-based alloy were stronger than the starting base metal counterparts while AA6061 was weaker due to softening. The metallurgical bonding at the interface between the metallic sheets was attributed to localized stick and slip at the interface, dynamic recrystallization and diffusion. The method developed can be used as a means of welding, cladding and additive manufacturing.

A microstructural simulation method is adopted to predict the location specific strain rates, temperatures, grain evolution, and accumulated strains in the Inconel 718 friction welds. Cellular automata based 2D microstructure model was developed for Inconel 718 alloy using theoretical aspects of dynamic recrystallization. Flow curves were simulated and compared with experimental results using hot deformation parameter obtained from literature work. Using validated model, simulations were performed for friction welds of Inconel 718 alloy generated at three rotational speed i.e., 1200, 1500, and1500 RPM. Results showed the increase in strain rates with increasing rotational speed. These simulated strain rates were found to match with the analytical results. Temperature difference of 150 K was noticed from center to edge of the weld. At all the rotational speeds, the temperature was identical implying steady state temperature(0.89 T_m) attainment.

Bead-on-plate friction stir welds were made on P91 alloy with low and high rotational speeds(100 and 1000 RPM) to study their effects on weld microstructural changes and impression creep behavior. Temperatures experienced by the stir zone were recorded at the weld tool tip. Different zones of welds were characterized for their microstructural changes, hardness and creep behavior(by impression creep tests). The results were compared with submerged arc fusion weld. Studies revealed that the stir zone temperature with 100 RPM was well below A_(c1) temperature of P91 steel while it was above A_(c3) with 1000 RPM. The results suggest that the microstructural degradation in P91 welds can be controlled by low temperature friction stir welding technique.

A quadrupole Penning trap for spectroscopy and investigations of non-neutral plasmas was designed and built. In this work we provide details of the trap design and a discussion of a simple design and procedure for convenient electron loading from an aligned filament. Electrons from thermionic emission which form a low-energy diffuse beam are trapped in weak magnetic fields. They are detected through a non-destructive electronic detection scheme, the details of which are discussed. The detection signal is diminished when the electron beam energy is increased while the electron flux is kept constant. This is explained by considering the energy shift in the distribution function of electrons emitted from the filament and entering the trap. We present a calculation of the number of trapped electrons from the shape of the detection signal. This calculation, based on a model of a driven damped harmonic oscillator to describe the axial motion of the electrons, compares favourably with the numbers obtained by measurements of the space charge induced shift in the trap potential.

AIM： To enrich hepatic progenitors using epithelial cell adhesion molecule （EpCAM） as a marker from human fetal liver and investigate the expression of human leukocyte antigen （HLA） and their markers associated with hepatic progenitor cells. METHODS： EpCAM ＋ve cells were isolated using magnetic cell sorting （MACS） from human fetuses （n = 10） at 15-25 wk gestation. Expression of markers for hepatic progenitors such as albumin, alpha-fetoprotein （AFP）, CD29 （integrin ~1）, CD49f （integrin c^6） and CD90 （Thy 1） was studied by using flow cytometry, immunocytochemistry and RT-PCR; HLA class Ⅰ （A, B, C） and class Ⅱ （DR） expression was studied by flow cytometry only. RESULTS： FACS analysis indicated that EpCAM ＋ve cells were positive for CD29, CD49f, CD90, CD34, HLA class I, albumin and AFP but negative for HLA class Ⅱ （DR） and CD45. RT PCR showed that EpCAM ＋ve cells expressed liver epithelial markers （CK18）, biliary specific marker （CK19） and hepatic markers （albumin, AFP）. On immunocytochemical staining, EpCAM ＋ve cells were shown positive signals for CK18 and albumin. CONCLUSION： Our study suggests that these EpCAM ＋ve cells can be used as hepatic progenitors for cell transplantation with a minimum risk of alloreactivity and these cells may serve as a potential source for enrichment of hepatic progenitor.

Targeting protein kinases(PKs) has been a promising strategy in treating cancer, as PKs are key regulators of cell survival and proliferation. Here in this study, we studied the ability of pyrimido[4',5':4,5]thieno(2,3-b)quinolines(PTQ) to inhibit different PKs by performing computational docking and in vitro screening. Docking studies revealed that 4-butylaminopyrimido[4',5':4,5]thieno(2,3-b)quinoline(BPTQ) has a higher order of interaction with the kinase receptors than other PTQ *** vitro screening confirms that BPTQ inhibits VEGFR1 and CHK2, with the IC_(50) values of 0.54 and1.70 mmol/L, respectively. Further, cytotoxicity of BPTQ was measured by trypan blue assay. Treatment with BPTQ decreased the proliferation of HL-60 cells with an IC_(50) value of 12 mmol/L and induces apoptosis, as explicated by the fall in the mitochondrial membrane potential, annexin V labeling and increased expression of caspase-3. Taken together, these data suggest that BPTQ possess ability to inhibit PKs and to induce cell death in human promyelocytic leukemia cells.

A Novel RP-HPLC Method for Estimating Fulvestrant, Benzoyl Alcohol, and Benzyl Benzoate in Injection Formulation

For the quantitative determination of Fulvestrant, Benzyl alcohol, and Benzyl benzoate in Fulvestrant injection, an original RP-HPLC approach was developed. The gradient method was developed using HPLC and a Phenomenex Luna C8, 150 × 4.6 mm, i.d 3.0 μm particle size column with a gradient programme of mobile phases A and B. With a flow rate of 1.5 mL/minute, injection volume of 10 μL, and column temperature of 35°C, UV wavelength detection at 254 nm for Benzyl alcohol and Benzoyl Benzoate and 280 nm for Fulvestrant, mobile phase-A consists of DI water and mobile phase-B consists of Acetonitrile. The current study describes a single HPLC method for developing a Fulvestrant (Active), Benzyl alcohol (Cosolvent), and Benzyl Benzoate (Cosolvent) assay for Fulvestrant injection. The assay method was determined to be suitable for quantifying three components in the pharmaceutical product and was verified according to ICH guidelines.

Cystic Echinococcosis (CE) is a zoonotic parasitic disease caused by the larval stage of the cestode Echinococcus granulosus. Hydatid cyst is a significant universal medical problem. In human cestode involves any organ and develops to hydatid cyst. Liver is the first and most frequently involved organ as the liver is the primary filter station of portal circulation. Though hydatid disease is benign disease, traditionally surgery is the treatment of choice for complete elimination of infective focus, which is associated with considerable mortality, morbidity. Systemic chemotherapy and percutaneous drainage have evolved in the recent past as an alternative to conventional surgery. The safety and success rate of these methods is influenced by the size, stage, location of the cysts and associated complications. Benzimidazoles can be considered in multiple, small hydatid cysts, but large cysts (cysts > 6 cm), bone marrow depression, pregnancy are contraindications of pharmacotherapy. Percutaneous drainage combined with ALB is a safe and effective treatment in liver hydatid patients with a surgical contraindication and younger cysts, but the presence of certain radiological signs (pericystic ducts and exophytic components) is a contraindication to non-surgical management because of the danger of biliary obstruction. However, the surgical treatment technique also cannot be standardized, should be tailored according to the cyst relation to the Broncho, biliary, vascular structures and associated complications if any. This review will focus on role of imaging in establishing the diagnosis, in determining cyst location, size, stage of the cyst and in identifying any associated complications, so that enable the clinician to perform recommended therapeutic procedures for the different cyst types and tailor the procedure performed based on cyst relation to broncho, biliary, vascular structures and associated complications.
