The Perhentian Islands located in the East coast of Peninsular Malaysia. They are well-known for their rich coral reef ecosystems. Marine resources of Malaysia have been overexploited in general due to overfishing and other development activities. Such no-take marine protected areas (MPAs) were established in Malaysia including Perhentian Islands Marine Park to enable overexploited marine resources to recover and to conserve coral reef ecosystems. This paper examines the current level of activities causing damages to the coral reef habitats in the Perhentian MPA. This study used paired comparison method to elicit the perception of the local stakeholders on the activities harmful to the marine habitats. The results of the analysis showed that various respondent groups had similar preference rankings on the harmful activities: littering, discarding fishing equipments, excess fishing and too many divers that cause damage to the habitats in the MPA area. The findings suggest that policy makers should take cognizance of the local stakeholders’ concern in planning and designing of marine protected areas in Malaysia.

AIM:To investigate the role and clinicopathological significance of aberrant expression of Notch receptors and Delta-like ligand-4 (DLL4) in extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder ***:One hundred and ten patients had surgically resected extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (CC) and gallbladder carcinoma specimens examined by immunohistochemistry of available paraffin *** was performed using anti-Notch receptors 1-4 and anti-DLL4 *** scored the immunopositivity of Notch receptors and DLL4 expression by percentage of positive tumor cells with cytoplasmic expression and intensity of *** nuclear localization was ***-logical parameters and survival data were compared with the expression of Notch receptors 1-4 and ***:Notch receptor proteins showed in the cytoplasm with or without nuclear expression in cancer cells,as well as showing weak cytoplasmic expression in non-neoplastic *** semiquantitative evaluation,positive immunostaining of Notch receptor 1 was detected in 96 cases (87.3%),Notch receptor 2 in 97 (88.2%),Notch receptor 3 in 97 (88.2%),Notch receptor 4 in 103 (93.6),and DLL4 in 84 (76.4%).In addition,coex- istent nuclear localization was noted [Notch receptor 1;18 cases (18.8%),Notch receptor 2;40 (41.2%),Notch receptor 3;32 (33.0%),Notch receptor 4;99 (96.1%),DLL4;48 (57.1%)].Notch receptor 1 expression was correlated with advanced tumor,node,metastasis (TNM) stage (P=0.043),Notch receptor 3 with advanced T stage (P=0.017),tendency to express in cases with nodal metastasis (P=0.065) and advanced TNM stage (P=0.052).DLL4 expression tended to be related to less histological differentiation (P=0.095).Coexistent nuclear localization of Notch receptor 3 was related to no nodal metastasis (P=0.027) and Notch receptor 4 with less histological differentiation (P=0.036),while DLL4 tended to be related inversely with T stage (P=0.053).Coexistent nuclear localizatio

Compared with solid scintillators,liquid scintillators have limited capability in dosimetry and radiography due to their relatively low light ***,we report a new generation of highly efficient and low-cost liquid scintillators constructed by surface hybridisation of colloidal metal halide perovskite CsPbA_(3)(A:Cl,Br,I)nanocrystals(NCs)with organic molecules(2,5-diphenyloxazole).The hybrid liquid scintillators,compared to state-of-the-art CsI and Gd_(2)O_(2)S,demonstrate markedly highly competitive radioluminescence quantum yields under X-ray irradiation typically employed in diagnosis and *** and theoretical analyses suggest that the enhanced quantum yield is associated with X-ray photon-induced charge transfer from the organic molecules to the ***-resolution X-ray imaging is demonstrated using a hybrid CsPbBr_(3) NC-based liquid *** novel X-ray scintillation mechanism in our hybrid scintillators could be extended to enhance the quantum yield of various types of scintillators,enabling low-dose radiation detection in various fields,including fundamental science and imaging.

Objective:Benefits of adjuvant treatment in pT1 N1 gastric cancer(GC)remain ***,an effective biomarker for early GC is the need of the *** prognostic and predictive roles of single patient classifier(SPC)were validated in stageⅡ/Ⅲ*** this study,we aimed to elucidate the role of SPC as a biomarker for pT1 N1 ***:The present retrospective biomarker study(NCT03485105)enrolled patients treated for pT1 N1 GC between 1996 and 2012 from two large hospitals(the Y cohort and S cohort).For SPC,mRNA expression of four classifier genes(GZMB,WARS,SFRP4 and CDX1)were evaluated by real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction *** SPC was revised targeting pT1 stages and the prognosis was stratified as high-and lowrisk group by the expression of SFRP4,a representative epithelial-mesenchymal transition ***:SPC was evaluated in 875 patients(n=391 and 484 in the Y and S cohorts,respectively).Among 864 patients whose SPC result was available,41(4.7%)patients experience GC *** to revised SPC,254(29.4%)patients were classified as high risk[123(31.5%)and 131(27.1%)in the Y and S cohorts,respectively].The high risk was related to frequent recurrence in both Y and S cohort(log-rank P=0.023,Pk of revised SPC as a significant prognostic factor[hazard ratio(HR):4.402(2.293-8.449),Pk P=0.670).Conclusions:The present study revealed the revised SPC as a prognostic biomarker of pT1 N1 GC and suggested the use of the revised SPC for early-stage GC as like stageⅡ/Ⅲ.

AIM： To investigate endoscopic and clinicopathologic characteristics of early gastric cancer （EGC） according to microsatellite instability phenotype. METHODS： Data were retrospectively collected from a single tertiary referral center. Of 981 EGC patients surgically treated between December 2003 and October 2007, 73 consecutive EGC patients with two or more microsatellite instability （MSI） mutation [high MSI （MSI-H）] and 146 consecutive EGC patients with one or no MSI mutation （non-MSI-H） were selected. The endoscopic and clinicopathologic features were compared between the MSI-H and non-MSI-H EGC ***： In terms of endoscopic characteristics, MSI-H EGCs more frequently presented with elevated pattern （OR 4.38, 95% Cl： 2.40-8.01, P 〈 0.001）, moderate- to-severe atrophy in the surrounding mucosa （OR 1.91, 95% CI： 1.05-3.47, P = 0.033）, antral location （OR 3.99, 95% CI： 2.12-7.52, P 〈 0.001） and synchronous le- sions, compared to non-MSI-H EGCs （OR 2.65, 95% CI： 1.16-6.07, P = 0.021）. Other significant clinicopatholog- ic characteristics of MSI-H EGC included predominance of female sex （OR 2.77, 95% CI： 1.53-4.99, P 〈 0.001）, older age （〉 70 years）（OR 3.30, 95% CI： 1.57-6.92, P = 0.002）, better histologic differentiation （OR 2.35, 95% Cl： 1.27-4.34, P = 0.007）, intestinal type by Lau- ren classification （OR 2.34, 95% CI： 1.15-4.76, P = 0.019）, absence of a signet ring cell component （OR 2.44, 95% CI： 1.02-5.86, P = 0.046）, presence of mu- cinous component （OR 5.06, 95% Cl： 1.27-20.17, P = 0.022）, moderate-to-severe lymphoid stromal reaction （OR 3.95, 95% CI： 1.59-9.80, P = 0.003）, and co-exist- ing underlying adenoma （OR 2.66, 95% CI： 1.43-4.95, P = 0.002）. CONCLUSION： MSI-H EGC is associated with unique endoscopic and clinicopathologic characteristics includ- ing frequent presentation in protruded type, co-exist- ing underlying adenoma, and synchronous lesions.

BACkGROUND Patients with Barcelona clinic liver cancer(BCLC)stage B hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)are considerably heterogeneous in terms of tumor burden,liver function,and performance *** improve the poor survival outcomes of these patients,treatment approaches other than transarterial chemoembolization(TACE),which is recommended by HCC guidelines,have been adopted in realworld clinical *** hypothesize that this non-adherence to treatment guidelines,particularly with respect to the use of liver resection,improves survival in patients with stage B *** To assess guideline adherence in South korean patients with stage B HCC and study its impact on *** A retrospective analysis was conducted using data from 2008 to 2016 obtained from the korea Central Cancer *** with stage B HCC were categorized into three treatment groups,guideline-adherent,upward,and downward,based on HCC guidelines recommended by the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver(APASL),the European Association for the Study of the Liver(EASL),and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases(AASLD).The primary outcome was HCC-related deaths;tumor recurrence served as the secondary *** among the groups was compared using the kaplan-Meier method and the log-rank *** of survival outcomes were identified using multivariable Cox regression *** In South korea, over the study period from 2008 to 2016, a notable trend was observed in adherence to HCCguidelines. Effect of open-field experimental warming on the leaf phenology of oriental oak (Quercus variabilis) seedlings

Chrysanthemum is one of the major flowers and the production area in korea was 736 ha as of 2007. Temperature, humidity, light, water, and nutrient are critical factors affecting yield and quality of chrysanthemum. Since monitoring and control of these factors are critical, producers are tended to stay around and visit frequently the production area. To solve these problems and relieve the labor, remote monitoring and control of these environmental and operational factors would be a preferable option. In this paper, a remote control system for protected chrysanthemum production was designed so that producer could operate control modules and confirm the results. First, important environmental and operational factors were selected and control ranges of these variables were determined. Then, control modules of the selected variables were constructed and the performances were evaluated. Results of this work would be useful for construction and utilization of the final remote control system.

Aims An open-field warming experiment enables us to test the effects of projected temperature increase on change in plant phenology with fewer confounding factors and to study phenological response to temperature ranges beyond natural *** study aims to(i)examine the effect of temperature increase on leaf unfold-ing and senescence of oriental oak(Quercus variabilis Blume)under experimental warming and(ii)measure temperature-related parameters used in estimating phenological response to tempera-ture *** Using an open-field warming system with infrared heaters,we increased the air temperature by~3℃ in the warmed plots compared with that of the control plots consistently for 2 *** unfolding and senescence dates of *** seedlings were recorded and temperature-related phenological parameters were *** Findings The timing of leaf unfolding was advanced by 3-8 days(1.1-3.0 days/℃)and the date of leaf senescence was delayed by 14-19 days(5.0-7.3 days/℃)under elevated air ***,the cumulative degree days(CDD)of leaf unfolding were not significantly changed by experimental warming,which suggest the applicability of a constant CDD value to estimate the change in spring leaf phe-nology under 3℃ *** ranges of advancement and temperature sensitivity in spring phenology and delayed autumn phe-nology and proposed temperature parameters from this study might be applied to predict future phenological change.
