Human sperm are approximately 6000th of a centimeter long, a smallfraction of a man＇s total body length. By contrast, fruit fly （Drosophila spp.） sperm can reach nearly 6 cm, roughly twenty times the total length of their bodies. This dramatic variation in male reproductive biology is explored in a recent paper from the journal Nature.

There is a potent demand to develop novel gluten-free food alternatives that are nutritious and ***-free instant fermented soup powder was developed by partial substitution of rice flour with mung bean *** of drum drying conditions;feed moisture(45–65%),drum rotating speed(0.6–2.2 rpm),and steam pressure(75–95 psi)on functional,chemical,sensorial,and morphological properties of soup powders were *** powders exhibited high protein content(20.52–22.62%)and remark.ble amounts of dietary fibers(2.63–3.94%),total phenolics(2.23–3.64μg GAE/g),and antioxidant capacities(DPPH:6.28–9.96μmol TEAC/g,FRAP:26.02–42.88μmol/g).The instant structure of the soup powder was provided by water solubility(17.93–23.14%),water absorption(3.20–4.20 g/g),and gelatinization degree(82.92–97.60%)analyses,as well as SEM appearances and DSC *** conditions were determined as 57.55%feed moisture,1.00 rpm rotating speed,and 91.27 psi steam *** instant soup powders had enhanced chemical,functional and bioactive properties,and can be used practically in daily and social life by celiac patients or gluten sensitive *** bean was proven to be a valid option for novel application opportunities in gluten-free systems.

The full energy distribution of back.cattered electrons from the elastic peak.do wn to the true-secondary electron peak.for heavy metals, ta, W, Pt and Au, in Au ger electron spectroscopy in the EN(E) mode has been studied with a Monte Carlo simulation method, which includes cascade-secondary-electron production. The sim ulation model is based on the use of a dielectric function for describing inelas tic scattering and secondary excitation, and on the use of Mott cross sections f or elastic scattering. A systematic comparison between the calculated and experi mental spectra measured with a cylindrical mirror analyzer has been made for pri mary energies ranging from 1 to 5k.V. Excellent agreement was obtained for these heavy metals on the back.cattering back.round at primary energies in the k.V re gion. A significant contribution of cascade secondary electrons to the measured spectra on the low-energy side was found.

AIM To examine the incidence and trends in pediatric inflammatory bowel diseases(IBDs) over 2000-2015 and project the incidence to 2018. METHODS A 16-year prospective study of IBD patients tabase. Historical Czech data were used for comparison(1990-2001). Our catchment population was determined from the census data. We calculated the incidence by relating the number of newly diagnosed cases to the size of thepediatric population-at-risk.in each calendar year. Age/sex, disease type, place of residence, and race/ethnicity were identified. RESULTS In total, 170 new IBD cases [105 Crohn's disease(CD), 48 ulcerative colitis(UC), and 17 IBD-unclassified(IBD-U)] were identified. The median age at IBD diagnosis was 14.2 years, 59.4% were males, and 97.1% were Caucasians. A male preponderance of IBD(P = 0.026) and CD(P = 0.016) was observed. With 109209 person-years in the catchment area, the average incidence of IBD per 100000 person-years was 10.0(6.2 for CD, 2.8 for UC, and 1.0 for IBD-U) for children aged 0 to 19 years; for those aged 0 to 15 years, the incidence rate was 7.3(4.6 for CD, 2.0 for UC, and 0.7 for IBD-U). An increase in incidence with age was observed(P = 0.0003). Over the 16-year period, the incidence increased for IBD patients(P = 0.01) and CD in particular(P ta from 2016 to 2018 were 12.1, 12.3 and 12.6 per 100000 personyears, *** Pediatric-onset IBD incidence is around its highest point. The increase, which is particularly pronounced for CD, may be challenging to relate to causes of pediatric disease.

The aim of this study is to determine the radon and natural radioactivity concentra-tions of some building materials and to assess the radiation hazard associated with those mortar materials when they are used in the construction of *** measurements were realized by using LR-115 Type 2 solid state nuclear track.*** activity concentrations of these materials were found to vary between 130.00±11.40 and 1604.06±40.5 Bq m^(-3).The natural radioactivity in selected mortar materials was analyzed by using scintillation gamma *** activity concentrations for 226Ra,232Th and 40k.for the studied mortar materials ranged from ND to 48.5±7.0 Bq k.^(-1),ND to 41.0±6.4 Bq k.^(-1)and ND to 720.4±26.8 Bq k.^(-1),*** equivalent activities,external and internal hazard indexes,gamma and alpha indexes and absorbed gamma dose rates were calculated to assess the radiation hazard of the natural radioactivity in studied *** calculated Raeq values of all samples were found to be lower than the limit of 370 Bq k.-1 set for building *** estimated hazard index values were found to be under the unity and the absorbed dose rate values were also below the worldwide average of 84 nGy h^(-1).
