The battery management system(BMS)is the main safeguard of a battery system for electric propulsion and machine *** is tasked to ensure reliable and safe operation of battery cells connected to provide high currents at high voltage *** addition to efectively monitoring all the electrical parameters of a battery pack system,such as the voltage,current,and temperature,the BMS is also used to improve the battery performance with proper safety measures within the *** growing acceptance of lithium-ion batteries,major industry sectors such as the automotive,renewable energy,manufacturing,construction,and even some in the mining industry have brought forward the mass transition from fossil fuel dependency to electric powered machinery and redefned the world of energy ***,the functional safety considerations,which are those relating to automatic protection,in battery management for battery pack technologies are particularly important to ensure that the overall electrical system,regardless of whether it is for electric transportation or stationary energy storage,is in accordance with high standards of safety,reliability,and *** the system or product fails to meet functional and other safety requirements on account of faulty design or a sequence of failure events,then the environment,people,and property could be *** paper analyzed the details of BMS for electric transportation and large-scale energy storage systems,particularly in areas concerned with hazardous *** analysis covers the aspect of functional safety that applies to BMS and is in accordance with the relevant industrial standards.A comprehensive evaluation of the components,architecture,risk reduction techniques,and failure mode analysis applicable to BMS operation was also *** article further provided recommendations on safety design and performance optimization in relation to the overall BMS integration.

Metformin-associated lactic acidosis:A mini review of pathophysiology,diagnosis and management in critically ill patients

Metformin is a common diabetes drug that may reduce lactate clearance by inhibiting mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation,leading to metforminassociated lactic acidosis(MALA).As diabetes mellitus is a common chronic metabolic condition found in critically ill patients,pre-existing metformin use can often be found in critically ill patients admitted to the intensive care unit or the high dependency *** aim of this narrative mini review is therefore to update clinicians about MALA,and to provide a practical approach to its diagnosis and *** in critically ill patients may be suspected in a patient who has received metformin and who has a high anion gap metabolic acidosis,and confirmed when lactate exceeds 5 mmol/*** factors include those that reduce renal elimination of metformin(renal impairment from any cause,histamine-2 receptor antagonists,ribociclib)and excessive alcohol consumption(as ethanol oxidation consumes nicotinamide adenine dinucleotides that are also required for lactate metabolism).Treatment of MALA involves immediate cessation of metformin,supportive management,treating other concurrent causes of lactic acidosis like sepsis,and treating any coexisting diabetic *** MALA requires extracorporeal removal of metformin with either intermittent hemodialysis or continuous kidney replacement *** optimal time to restart metformin has not been *** is nonetheless reasonable to first ensure that lactic acidosis has resolved,and then recheck the kidney function post-recovery from critical illness,ensuring that the estimated glomerular filtration rate is 30 mL/min/1.73 m^(2) or better before restarting metformin.

The step-up resonant converters are widely adopted to provide high voltage in kV-level for electric propulsion system due to their high efficiency,low mass,modularisation,and high-power *** bipolar Cockcroft-walton voltage multiplier(BiCwVM)is a major circuit that steps up the voltage in the resonant ***,the diode nonlinearity in BiCwVM can introduce self-sustained quasi-periodic oscillations in the voltage and current waveforms,which is commonly known as the Deane and Hamill(DH)*** oscillation can lead to higher magnetic loss and control failure,and it is more likely to present in the gallium nitride-based converter due to the highfrequency *** authors aim to investigate and mitigate the DH phenomenon systematically so that proper mitigation can be *** facilitate the investigation,the circuit before the BiCwVM in the converter is derived and modelled as a voltage source v_(m)and a series inductor L_(sy).Also,the reverse recovery process of the diode in the BiCwVM can be represented by a piecewise-linear(PwL)model,with the simplified circuit and PwL model,the relationship between voltage and current under different operating conditions can be determined with *** relationship allows to understand the mechanism of diode reverse recovery in BiCwVM that leads to DH ***,a hybrid-/full-silicon carbide(SiC)design is proposed to mitigate the DH phenomenon,which is verified experimentally for a 300-kHz,5-w,20-V/1.5-kV GaN-based step-up resonant converter.

Lightning in a Forest (wild) Fire: Mechanism at the Molecular Level

The mechanism of lightning that ignites a forest fire and the lightning that occurs above a forest fire are explained at the molecular level. It is based on two phenomena, namely, internal charge separation inside the atmospheric cloud particles and the existence of a layer of positively charged hydrogen atoms sticking out of the surface of the liquid layer of water on the surface of rimers. Strong turbulence-driven collisions of the ice particles and water droplets with the rimers give rise to breakups of the ice particles and water droplets into positively and negatively charged fragments leading to charge separation. Hot weather in a forest contributes to the updraft of hot and humid air, which follows the same physical/chemical processes of normal lightning proposed and explained recently[1]. Lightning would have a high probability of lighting up and burning the dry biological materials in the ground of the forest, leading to a forest (wild) fire. The burning of trees and other plants would release a lot of heat and moisture together with a lot of smoke particles (aerosols) becoming a strong updraft. The condition for creating lightning is again satisfied which would result in further lightning high above the forest wild fire.

Impact of inhaled and intranasal corticosteroids on glucose metabolism and diabetes mellitus:A mini review

Inhaled corticosteroids(ICS)and intranasal corticosteroids(INS)are the mainstays of treatment for chronic respiratory diseases like asthma,chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,and allergic *** addition,these localized forms of steroid therapy are generally considered to have fewer systemic side effects compared to long-term oral ***,concern and controversy remain over the impact of ICS and INS on the incidence and control of diabetes mellitus(DM).Given the widespread use of ICS and INS,even small individual effects on DM could lead to large consequences for the global *** large observational studies suggest that high dose ICS is associated with increased incident DM and worsened DM control,though the contribution of other risk factors is less *** addition,only two studies were done to investigate the association of INS and DM,with both studies demonstrating a short-term association of INS use with *** more research evaluating the risk of ICS/INS for DM-related adverse events is needed,high doses of ICS/INS should be avoided when *** following strategies for ICS/INS dose minimization can be considered:Use of non-pharmacological measures(trigger avoidance,smoking cessation,vaccination to avoid infection),control of comorbid conditions,use of non-ICS-containing medications,intermittent rather than regular ICS dosing,and appropriate de-escalation of high ICS doses.

Flexible electrochromic fiber with rapid color switching and high optical modulation

Though flexible electrochromic devices have shown huge potential application in the fields of safety warning,display and smart windows,limited attention was paid on preparing flexible electrochromic fiber because of the difficulty in fabricating the multilayer electrochromic device structure in one-dimensional *** this study,a flexible electrochromic nylon fiber based on Ag nanowires(Nws)/PEDOT:PSS/wO3 nanoparticles(NPs)(PEDOT:PSS=poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrenesulfonic acid)is successfully fabricated,delivering rapid color switching(2.5 and 9 s for bleaching and coloration)and high optical modulation(65.5%at 633 nm),and sustainable to repeated mechanical *** Nws,PEDOT:PSS and wO3 NPs were dip-coated on the nylon fiber,resulting in an electrochromic fiber electrode with stable fiber resistance of 50-100Ω/10 cm,which can withstand mechanical deformation against 300 times of bending cycles with bending radius of 0.5 cm,and sustain 30 times of *** the galvanostatic tests,the capacitance of the electrochromic electrode can maintain 70%of the initial value even after 5,000 times of charge-discharge *** in knotted shape,the fiber still shows excellent color *** study provides a novel method to construct flexible electrochromic fiber and pave the way for the development of flexible optoelectronic devices,such as flexible and wearable displays.
